Chapter 36: Hangover
After drinking and dancing into the late hours, Aaron and I stumbled our way back upstairs, giggling like teenagers as we navigated the stairs. Despite the presence of an elevator, we somehow found ourselves on the staircase, our laughter echoing through the corridors.
Upon returning to our room, we collapsed onto the sofa, reminiscing about the day's adventures and sharing playful banter. Eventually, exhaustion overtook us, and we drifted off to sleep right there on the sofa, wrapped in each other's arms.
I awoke suddenly in the middle of the night, unable to sleep with my jewelry on or in sweaty clothes. With a sigh, I slipped into a warm bath, the effects of the alcohol dissipating with each passing minute. I attempted to rouse Aaron from his slumber, but he remained deeply asleep, snoring softly.
Reflecting on the joyous moments we had shared, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to unwind and have fun together. After removing my makeup and taking a refreshing shower, I crawled into bed, relishing in its comforting embrace.
The next morning, I awoke early to find Aaron still sleeping soundly. Feeling mischievous, I playfully placed ice on his neck to rouse him from his slumber. Startled awake, he protested my actions, but I insisted it was time to rise and prepare for the day ahead.
Despite his protests and headache, I urged him to shake off his grogginess and prepare for the day. With a mixture of amusement and determination, I encouraged him to rise and face the challenges of the day ahead, eager to embark on another adventure together.
"I don't want to get up," he groaned. "I just can't."
"You're such a baby," I teased, offering him a hand to help him up. Playfully, he pulled me into his side.
"You know I already showered. Get off, you're stinky," I joked back. "Leave me alone. You smell like your own spit."
"I can't. I want us to cuddle," he insisted, refusing to let go. "Come on, just a little longer."
"Aaron, I'm serious. I'm hungry," I protested. "Go take a shower."
"Boo, you're such a party pooper," he teased, finally relenting and heading to the shower.
Once he returned, I rummaged in my suitcase for some biscuits, handing him one for a quick snack. "Now, take some paracetamol and sniff this peppermint oil," I instructed, handing him a tissue with the oil. "And I'll make you some black coffee."
You're the best wife," he said appreciatively.
"Not your wife yet," I reminded him, but couldn't help smiling at his words.
"Come on, just a quick one," he pleaded, as I reminded him of our breakfast plans. "We can't miss breakfast," I insisted.
After some time, we reviewed our itinerary, and I questioned whether we really needed to do everything in one day.
"Yes, we don't know when we'll see Jamaica again," Aaron replied firmly.
"But we live in Suriname, it's not that far," I countered. "We're being silly."
"Shh, don't talk too much, you're giving me a headache," he joked.
"Alright, I'll meet you downstairs," I said, giving him a playful goodbye.
With a hangover still lingering, I opted for a light breakfast, just a plate full of fruits. It seemed like the best option for me at the moment. A few minutes later, Aaron joined me with a scarf on and sunglasses.
"Um, am I missing something? Why are you fully incognito?" I teased. "Is someone following us? Can you talk to me?"
"Shut up. My eyes hurt. The hangover is really nasty," he grumbled. "I think we're too old to do this. We're never doing it again, okay?"
"Coming from you? Okay, I thought you said you wanted fun," I smirked.
"What are you having for breakfast?" he asked.
"Whatever you're having," I replied. "Okay, sir, can I have whatever I'm having for him?" I joked, chuckling.
"You're goofy. Are you still drunk?" he inquired.
"What can I say, I don't know, maybe?" I shrugged. "I think we need to go outside and smoke something."
"No, no, no, not until after dinner. We'll have all these activities to do," he suggested.
"Dinner? After we've done all these activities?" I questioned. "I mean, to feel fit, we can use a cigarette or some. They sell very good cigars over there. I'm sure that will help with the hangover."
"Look at you, experimenting. I wonder what your youth was like," he chuckled.
"I'm still youthful, excuse you," I retorted.
"We ate our fruits quickly, and then we also ordered some green tea. I don't know why I thought that might help. I truly hate rum; it always gives me a bad headache every time I wake up after drinking it. I can handle every kind of wine, vodka, or white liquor, but rum is really not made for me. Although, I must admit, Jamaica has the best rum," I commented.
"Okay, sir, we still have some time left. The activities aren't starting anytime soon. So, what will it be?" Aaron asked.
"I don't know. Let's go to the kiosk and find ourselves some cigars. Or vape, vape might help too," I suggested.
"Vape is harmful," Aaron warned.
"Everything is harmful. Let's just try to get rid of this hangover because we really have a lot of things to do today," I agreed.
"Yeah, and I don't know who I should blame for that," Aaron joked.
As we ventured across the street to Defender, a quaint bakery known for its delectable rum-infused treats, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of hesitation. "Oh no, I can't do this. Nah, I'm not trying that," I protested, eyeing the tempting cakes with caution. However, Aaron, always the adventurous one, insisted we give them a try.
"Okay, that's a big piece, thank you," I said reluctantly as the friendly baker handed us each a generous slice of rum-laden brownies. "One for you, sir, and one for you, ma'am," he said with a smile. "I'm not sure I can eat all of this," I admitted, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the size of the servings.
