Chapter 18 — Crossroads

Bree:

Something big is happening tonight. I can feel it. It’s been weeks since I’ve been trapped in this house and nearly a week since Fallon finally made love to me. He might not agree with my estimation, but it felt like more than sex to me. After that, it became harder for us to keep our hands off each other. Which doesn’t mean that I haven’t attempted to escape more than once. One time I even got further than the bedroom, but one of the demons caught me and dragged me back to the room before he snitched on me to Fallon.

When Fallon found out, he came into the room, pushed me against the door and pleased me until I screamed his name. We pretty much have sex whenever we’re in the same room. I can understand now why Zoe and Azazel didn’t leave their room for days. Sex is supposed to be great, but with Fallon, it’s beyond addicting. The man is incredibly insatiable and creative.

What surprised me most was how we’d talk afterward. Actually, I’d talk, and Fallon would ask me questions. I realized then that the Fallon that I knew, though heroic and brooding, was not much of a talker. Though this Fallon has some serious identity issues and is a murderous psycho, he’s a lot more confident. After hearing his assurance that he’s a monster, I came to some insight. Soulless Fallon does not feel happiness or hope because he can’t. The other Fallon could because he had a piece of Lucifer’s soul. Telling him that he loves Lucifer and has friends is similar to describing color to a blind person. Experiencing hate and rage has been his constant companion, which is why he’s comfortable with following those feelings. I can’t even be mad at him because he doesn’t know any better. It also saddens me because I know that he’s capable of more. I’ve seen his affection for Lucifer and have caught a glimpse of it toward me. But until he acquires his soul, there’s nothing I can do.

But unlike him, I haven’t lost hope. Needing a starting point, I asked him if he would give me a copy of the prophecy. When he asked me why I wanted it, I told him that I was bored, and it piqued my interest.

Even though I don’t quite understand it, I did memorize it. No matter how much I break it down in my head, I can’t come up with a way to help him gain his soul unless he chooses to. I’m also puzzled by the mention of the Creator’s champion. Who can it be?

When I’m not trying to decipher the prophecy, I can’t help wondering how my sister and Zoe are doing. They must be out of their minds searching for me. It’s funny because school is the last thing on my mind now. I guess knowing that the world is going to end can put a damper on anyone’s dreams.

I look up from my book when the door opens. Fallon walks in looking sexy in his tight skinny jeans, black tank top, and long, leather duster. His abdomen and firm thighs ripple with his movements, and his hair is cut short. Frowning, I rise from my perch and slide my fingers through his hair. “You cut it.”

He sifts his fingers through the short locks and nods.

I would say that his long hair was better, but I imagine Fallon would be gorgeous even if he was bald. The new style emphasizes his sharp cheekbones, strong jaw and fiery colored eyes. Even though there’s something intense about the fiery embers in his eyes, I do miss their molten silver color.

“I like it,” I mutter as I caress the silken strands between my fingers.

His eyes grow hooded as he gazes intently into mine. I know the expression he wears very well by now. It’s the look he gets when he wants to ravish me. Pressing forward, I slide my hands down his chest and kiss his jaw. His breathing quickens, and his eyes dilate with desire as he pulls me closer.

We kiss for several minutes until we’re both nearly breathless. It’s only when he pulls back and utters the words that I’ve feared hearing that reality crashes around me. “Tonight is the night of the blood moon. Tonight, I go to war with Lucifer.”

My heart plummets, and my vision blurs. “W-what?”

He doesn’t repeat himself. Instead, he hands me a bag that I didn’t notice he was holding and says. “You will wear this tonight.”

I look at the bag and place it on a nearby nightstand.

“What will happen?” I ask.

Fallon shrugs. “We will travel with the army to hell, and I will challenge Lucifer.”

He sounds so nonchalant that I have to blink my eyes. “You will rule as you desire and vanquish all enemies,” I repeat the last part of the prophecy.

Fallon smirks. “Yes,” he replies evenly.

My throat constricts as emotion threatens to well up inside of me. It’s the night that I am to die. I know that it’s stupid and that I should probably find a way to escape, but something tells me I am where I am meant to be. Even if my fate is sealed, I refuse to give up on Fallon so easily. Serenity settles inside of me at that moment. Taking his hand, I lead him back to the bed and peel of my shirt. “Make love to me,” I mutter. “Make me forget that this will be my last night.”

His nostrils flare, but he doesn’t refute my words. Within moments we’re both lying naked on the bed. Straddling his waist, I kiss my way down his chest and abs until I reach his hard shaft. Leaning close, I engulf him inside of my mouth and run my tongue along his veiny shaft. Fallon writhes and growls beneath me as I swirl my tongue around his throbbing tip and swipe at his slit. Smiling, I slide his length until it has reached the back of my throat. While I bob my head, I lash my tongue around his crown and suckle hard. Fallon makes a strangled noise as he pumps his hips and up and down. I grip him firmly as he rides my mouth and pumps his shaft until his body is a quivering mess. Minutes later, he stiffens beneath me and roars out his climax.

Not giving it another thought, he flips me to my knees and slides inside of my hot center. Groaning with pleasure, I arch back and meet his pleasurable strokes. Fallon curses and grips my hips tightly as he pounds into my sheathe. Gasps of bliss echo across the room as pleasure spreads inside my core. Within moments, the spark turns into an inferno and spreads through my body until waves of ecstasy burst inside of me.

As we lie on the bed spent, I close my eyes and silently admit to myself that I’m in love with Fallon. I’ve been in love with him since the moment I first laid eyes on him.

“What the bloody hell are you doing in here?” Fallon’s harsh voice startles me out of my thoughts.

Looking up, I squeal when I see that Lilith is standing on the foot of the bed. Fallon tosses the sheet over me before he slips into his boxers and faces his mother.

Lilith looks back and forth between us and mutters. “So, you are shagging her. Well, I guess it’s no mind because the little whore is about to die anyway.”

“Who are you calling a whore, bitch?” I retort.

Lilith lifts her hand to strike me, but Fallon takes her by the arm before she can and pushes her away. “Get out!”

Lilith arches a questioning brow. “What?”

He stomps toward her and growls. “I said, get the fuck out of my room! You have no sodding reason to enter without my permission.”

Lilith hisses venomously. “Are you growing soft, my monster? You might have fucked this little slut, but do not forget; she’s only a tool for bringing an end to Lucifer. She’s no more and no less.”

“I know what I bloody have to do, mother,” he answers. “Now, get out of my chamber before I cast you out.”

Huffing with indignation, Lilith angrily stomps out of the room.

After a moment, Fallon turns and faces me.

“I want you to stay away from Lilith tonight,” he mutters.

My brow furrows with consternation. “What does it matter. It’s not like you’re not going to kill me.”

He moves closer, his jaw ticking angrily. “You’re not going to die.”

“What?” I ask, confused.

Fallon places his knuckles under my chin and meets my eyes. “I’m not going to let anyone hurt you, Brielle.”

I shake my head and back away from his touch. “I don’t understand. Isn’t this the plan?”

His lips turn down. “The plan is what I wish it to be. Once I slay Lucifer, I plan on taking you back home with me.”

My thoughts are running a mile a minute as I consider what his change of mind might mean. “But it doesn’t matter because you’re going to destroy the world anyway?”

His eyes move beyond my shoulder as he gazes blankly forward. “I would keep you and your sister with me if you wish. You can be my queen.”

Realizing what he’s offering, I blink my eyes to stop the tears that threaten to fall. He’s willing to keep us safe because he cares about me.

“I…” I swallow down the ball of nerves that threaten to choke me. “I…can’t. I could never live with myself if I accepted your offer and let everyone else die. I’m sorry.”

His expression grows grim at that moment. “You don’t care for me,” he states.

I shake my head. “Of course, I care about you. But this is not about me, Fallon. This is about all of the innocent people who will die at your hands. Some who I personally care about. You can’t ask me to stand back and watch the people I love die. What would you say if I asked you not to follow through with your plans?” I ask carefully.

“I guess we’re at an impasse then,” he states without answering my question.

I want to beg him, but it’s a futile effort that I’ve attempted over the past week. Fallon is resolute in his plan, and not even my pleas can reach him.

Fallon angrily slips back into his clothes but doesn’t look at me when he says, “Very well. Once Lucifer is dead, I will take you to your sister, as I promised. You can figure it out from there.”

Before I can answer, he rushes out of the room and slams the door behind him. Slipping down on the bed, I swallow down my tears and prepare for the evening.
