Chapter 47 Terrify

Chapter 47 Terrify

Genesis's POV

I looked at him warily, but didn't expect him to suddenly reach out his hand toward me.

"Give me a photo of you." Eli straightened his clothes as he spoke.

I looked at him confused. \[Photo?\]

Why was the topic changing so fast?

"I'm taking this shipment to the southern region tomorrow. Won't see you for a week. I want to look at your picture." Eli raised an eyebrow.

I didn't believe Eli would actually look at my photos for no reason.

But to get rid of him quickly, I had to send him a photo from my phone. My student ID photo.

Eli looked at the photo on his phone with disgust, then looked at me.

"This is what you're giving me?"

I shook my head. \[This is all I have.\]

I never took selfies. No one at home would take photos of me either. So my whole life was just recorded in student ID photos. Nothing else.

Eli made a face and put away his phone. "Whatever. This'll have to do."

He finished fixing his clothes, leaned down to kiss my lips, then turned and left the room.

After making sure he was gone, I immediately locked the door. Only then did I completely relax.

The next morning, I saw messages from Eli on my phone.

I checked the time. It was sent at 4 AM.

\[I'm leaving. I'll have my made man pick you up and drop you off. Don't take the bus anymore. Stay safe.\]

Then a second message. A third.

\[Study for your driver's test at home. I'll take you to test when I get back.\]

\[Text me back when you wake up. Every day.\]

I never knew Eli was such a nag. So many things to say.

I put my phone on the desk and sighed. I didn't reply to Eli's messages.

This delivery was destined to fail. He might get sent straight to South Africa.

By the time I got into Novien University of Technology and left the Martinez family, we wouldn't cross paths anymore.

He'd have new targets to chase long before then.

I packed my bag and sure enough saw Eli's made man downstairs. Ethan.

Ethan looked at me with curiosity. He was clearly confused why Eli would specifically send him to drive me around.

I pretended not to notice his stare and got in the car quietly.

Starting today, school would have midterm exams. Three days straight.

After the exam three days later, Forth came over immediately. "What did you get for question 12? I think it was B, but I wasn't sure."

\[The answer is B.\] I replied.

Forth frowned. He clearly didn't understand why.

He looked at me. "Can you explain this problem? I don't really get the concept."

I signed apologetically. "I have something to do later. Can I explain it tomorrow?"

Forth looked disappointed, but I couldn't worry about his feelings right now.

After school, I quietly went to the multimedia classroom again.

I wasn't going to stop Christian from using those weapons to screw over Eli. But I also wasn't going to let the southern war zone actually get affected.

I found a hidden computer and anonymously reported that Eli's weapon shipment was problematic.

Eli hadn't reached the southern region yet. As long as I reported it before he arrived, the government could respond in time.

This way, the only person affected would be Eli. It wouldn't impact the war.

After confirming the report went through, I deleted all records from the computer.

Right as I finished, Ethan called. "Miss Genesis, are you okay? Why haven't you come out yet?"

I quickly tapped the receiver and texted back. \[Teacher kept me for something. I'll be right out.\]

Ethan wasn't just my driver. He reported everything about me to Eli daily.

Good thing I went to the multimedia room early today. I didn't take too long.

Eli shouldn't find out.

Eli's POV

\[Miss Genesis attended school normally today. Returned to Martinez mansion after school. Didn't go out again.\]

I looked at Ethan's report on my phone and frowned.

I opened my chat with Genesis irritably. Still just my messages. She hadn't replied to a single one.

Thinking about this, I frowned and took a drag of my cigarette.

Why the hell was she mad?

Was she scared from that night? She was just an innocent little mute, but I made her do that stuff. Maybe she was too embarrassed and got angry?

But I held back that night. Didn't even get close to satisfied!

I threw the cigarette on the ground and stomped it out hard.

I stood up with my phone, planning to call Genesis. But when I started dialing, I remembered she couldn't talk. Calling was useless.

"Mutes are such a pain in the ass." I hung up impatiently, then selected another number.

A flower shop I used regularly. I told them to prepare a bouquet for Genesis.

After hanging up, I texted Genesis. \[Did I scare you? Don't worry. I'll be gentler next time.\]

Before she could reply, Walker rushed in.

"This better be important or I'm ripping your head off!" I glared at him.

Walker said urgently, "I got word. Someone reported us for replacing real weapons with fakes. Embezzlement."

"What?" I stood up frowning.

We took these weapons back from Gage. How could they be fake?

"FBI's sending people to investigate. They'll be here tomorrow morning." Walker added.

I kicked the truck in front of me hard.

Without solid leads, the FBI wouldn't randomly investigate. Our Martinez family contacts should have blocked them.

Something was definitely wrong!

"Let's check the shipment." I ordered Walker.

I quickly got to the truck and had the guards break the seals for inspection.

I opened a sealed crate and randomly picked out a handgun. The moment I held it, I knew something was off.

This gun was too light.

I'd been handling weapons since I was a baby. I could identify any gun. This one was definitely wrong.

I grabbed a SIG Sauer to check. Same problem!

Not just the guns. Even the bullets weren't the same batch we took from Gage!

Someone had secretly switched this shipment!

I didn't need long to figure out who did this. Had to be Christian.

If the FBI found these weapons were fake, I wouldn't just get sent to South Africa. The Martinez family would suffer huge losses. It would give the FBI a perfect excuse to investigate the Martinez family!
