THREE MONTHS LATER
AMANDA
"I'm really tired. I don't think I can come." I said as soon as his eyes fell on me.
"Come on, Amanda. Don't be such a bore. You've been studying like a maniac for the semester exams, you need to chill out and besides, I really need your company tonight." Rey folded his hands infront of me in with a low smile gracing his lips.
I rolled my eyes. "Right. I almost forgot about our date."
He grinned. "Perfect. Be ready till eight and don't forget to look beautiful." He stops in middle, knitting his brows. "But you're already beautiful."
I rolled my eyes again. "Piss off."
Waving him goodbye, I walked to my dorm. My head will explode if I don't sleep. I haven't blinked a sleep in last fourty eight hours. Puffing air out of my mouth, I fell on the bed with my arms wide open and as I tried sleep to come, I felt nothing. Not a single piece of satisfaction in me.
When I joined PHD programme, I thought that I'd be busy and happy. It was always my dream to study human genetics but in past three months, I not for once felt any spark. It was dull. I was forcing myself to indulge in classes, complete assignments, study hard.
I clicked my tongue and get up to drink coffee. These days, I'm surviving pretty much on caffeine.
I need to get ready for the date. I promised Ray to go with him in return of all the things that he had done for me.
I still remember how I met him on the first day of University. He made me smile for the first time in a while by cracking shallowest joke after I almost tripped my food on him accidentally in cafeteria. He's my classmate and pretty much the only nice person I know here.
Taking a shower, I changed myself into a red tight little dress. Lia gifted me this dress. It's nice, sluty maybe but it's kind if cute. I need to wear this dress for Rey.
I slipped into heels and with dark lipstick and my hair left open, I sat on the edge of the bed and I don't know for how long I stayed like that when finally I heard the knock on my door. Opening the door, I offered him a small smile. "How am I looking? Sexy, no?"
He looked at me, his eyes lightning up in admiration. "Woah!"
"You look fine too." I said, walking towards his car.
"No, seriously Amanda. You look-damn! Your blue hair and tattoos on forearm and man, this red dress, I-"
"Keep the compliments for later." I laughed to which he simply nodded and drove us to a nice restaurant.
He held my hand and walked inside. We sat on the table that he reserved for us and soon Sarah came to sat on our table.
Her gaze flicker on me briefly before she shifted her attention to Rey. "You didn't tell me that you are coming with someone else."
Her voice sounded bitter and I couldn't help but chuckle. That's exactly what we planned, right?
"She's my date for the evening." He introduce me to her and God, the second she heard him say that, her face fell.
"Oh, I see..." She whispered.
"She's pretty isn't she?" He said, leaning in to press a kiss on my cheeks.
I somehow suppressed my urge to roll my eyes at him. He's such a dramatic ass. He practically begged me to go on a fake date with him so that he can make his childhood best friend jealous.
I just couldn't say no to him since he did so much for me. And that's why here I am, pretending to be his date.
In a blink of an eye, Sarah stood up and rushed out of the restaurant. Rey looked at me in confusion and when I gestured him to follow her, he nodded. "I'll be back. I honestly don't want to leave you alone here but I'm sorry... I'll be back in no time." He whispered.
"It's okay. Go." I smiled.
I sank into my seat when he left. My eyes are burning for a good sleep. I took a deep breath and that's when my eyes fell on a familiar figure.
My body tensed and all of sudden nausea hit me.
Marco was sitting at a distant table with empty liquor bottles.
The second our eyes met, my heart almost fell in the pits of my stomach.
He stood up and in no time started taking steps towards me. I squirmed in my seat and tried to get up so that I can leave from here but it was as if my legs are frozen.
He snapped his fingers and manger came almost running to him. "Everyone. Out." He said loud enough for me to flinch a little.
The manager looked around and quickly started emptying the restaurant of all the people that came to dine in.
Soon everyone was out, leaving me alone with him. As he took steps towards me, my heart became ready to jump out of my throat.
I blinked, catching a clear sight of him.
He looked- different. With his messy hair, unshaven beard, eyes sunken under the eyebags, pale skin, chapped lips and strong smell of liquor coming from him, he definitely looked not well.
My heart twisted in pain and I couldn't help but ask. "Are you okay?"
His eyes bore into mine and in them I saw nothing but anger and fatigue. And then he let out a dark laugh. The echo of which entered my ears making my fingers sweat to just run into his arms and stroke his hair till his body calms.
But at the same time the anger burning in his eyes snapped me out of my trance.
"Already?" He asked, his voice sounding dangerously high.
I gulped. "H-Huh?"
"You left me and in mere three months, you found someone else. Impressive, Mrs. Felix." He said, coming further closer to me.
I shook my head. "No."
And then his eyes roam over my body. "Don't forget that we're still married. You're still my wife. You can't wear this fucking skin exposing dress and let another man kiss you." He whispered, removing his shirt and put it over my body.
"I'll divorce you." The words rolled like a acid through my tongue and even though it distaste, somewhere it was the truth.
I want to divorce him. No, I'll divorce him.
His eyes flickered with something that I didn't understand and next I know I was cornered to the wall. He grabbed me by my jaw and stared straight into my soul. "I fucking dare you to say that again, Amanda."
