Chapter 85 Chapter Eighty-Five
Chapter 85 Chapter Eighty-Five
Keira
Even though I knew it would definitely happen, I didn't expect it'd happen so soon.
Someone amongst the people who claimed to be my subjects poisoned me with the sole purpose of wiping me off the face of the earth.
Marienne…
My vision blurred a little, and my throat felt constricted as I tried to breathe the emotions down.
It wasn't pain, neither was it fear… All I felt was rage, and the dangerous urge to hunt the perpetrator and fucking blow their heads off.
Ray's howls of anger only helped to fuel my anger the more, of course, she'd be as angry as I was… maybe more.
“Hey!” Kaelan’s hand rested gently on my shoulders. “Look at me.” He requested.
It took me minutes to raise my face up. His eyes searched through mine. “Don’t cry,” His voice was soft. “Don’t give them a reason to think you are weak.” He brought his right hand to my face, his thumb brushed lightly on my cheeks wiping a tear I didn't notice rolling down. “I know how hard, and difficult it must be for you to take such information.” He paused, sucked a deep breath then continued. “How much of the conversation did you hear?”
I shook my head. “Just from where you asked ‘how long does she have left?’ ” I let out a dry chuckle. “I’d be a dumb ass if I didn't know the question was about me, no matter the situation, any of your subjects who fall ill, Doctor Lustre wouldn't come all the way here to give a report.”
A shudder rolled through me as a thought flashed my mind. “What is the name of the poison?” I hadn't even thought of asking the name of the poison, at the mention of having only two weeks left in this cold world, I couldn't think straight at all.
Kaelan looked away, a solemn expression on his face. A frown skimmed up my face. “Is it that dangerous?” I couldn't help but ask.
He sighed. “Come.” He said as he ushered me towards his bed. He sat me down while he lowered himself on his knees, his palms pressed on my thighs. “Do you know anything about poison?” His eyes were fixed on mine.
“No.” My response was fast. “Why would I even want to learn anything about poison?”
“Of course, no one would want to have anything to do with it.” Long minutes passed by before he continued talking. “The poison in your body is foxglove.”
I nodded. I opened my mouth to talk, but Kaelan beat me to it. “How many times did you collapse?”
Five…?
My tongue darted out, and wet my lips. “Only this time?” I lied.
His gaze darkened. “I hate lies Keira, don't fucking lie to me baby. How many times did you collapse?” He was almost yelling.
I swallowed nothing. “I didn't want to add to your worries.” I defended myself instead of giving a straight answer.
“Keira!!” There was a warning note beneath his voice. “That doesn't in any way bear resemblance to the answer I want to hear.”
“I–I” Knowing I can't lie to him, he'd find out from Damien anyways, I sucked in a deep breath. “This time makes it seven.”
“Christ.” I watched as he closed his eyes, his jaw clenched as a curse rolled off his tongue. “Fuck. What the hell Keira?” He rose to his full height. “Seven times?”
Gosh. What was I thinking? I should have told him sooner about the frequent drifting in and out of unconsciousness. Damn… he looked angry.
“Don’t touch me.” He snapped when I made for his hand. “I thought we agreed to no secrets between us?” he bit out, his voice heavy with anger.
I watched as he walked towards his bathroom. I swallowed a shriek when he landed a punch on the door. “Even if you still don't trust me, I can quite understand that baby, but keeping your health issues from me…” He shook his head. “You really hurt my feelings.”
So much for not wanting to make him worry.
“Yeah. I totally fucked up,” I dart out my tongue, nervously licking on my lips. “At first I thought it was just because I was stressed, so I concluded it wasn't anything serious but I was going to tell you, I swear.”
‘Lies.’ Ray's voice cut off my next words. ‘You were going to keep it all to yourself, stop with the lies.’ She chastised me like some angry mother. Geez.
‘Shut up. You are not helping.’ I hissed.
She simply rolled her eyes before shutting me off.
I stopped when I was standing right in front of him. I moved my hands around Kaelan's waist, he didn't stop me this time. “I’m sorry for keeping this away from you. No words can make up for my mistakes.” I stepped on my toes, and pressed a quick kiss on his lips. “I’m sorry.” I muttered while making faces.
A smile tugged at my lips when he chuckled, and pulled me in for a hug. “As much as you drive me insane, there's absolutely no way on earth that I can stay angry at you, not when you look so beautiful.”
“Does that mean I can get away with anything?”
“If you can survive being spanked, give it a try.” He pulled away just as quickly as uttered these words. “As much as I would rather cling tight to you, we need to talk.”
I nodded.
Not like I could say otherwise.
Once my butt was on his bed, and my legs were taking turns to dangle about the air, he started asking questions. “You collapsed seven times, right?”
I nodded.
“And you always felt cold right before you collapsed right?” He asked again.
“Uhm, yes.” Was that how foxglove reacted with its victim? I held back from asking.
As if he read my mind, he said, “This is no doubt foxglove poison.” He ran his fingers through his hair. “And you've been poisoned for a long time now.” He added.
“I guess it's a slow poison.” I stated the obvious. “Heaven knows I really want to know who is behind this darn stunt, killing is an understatement to what I'd do to them.” I clenched my fists to keep my trembling hand still. Was this also a symptom of foxglove poison?
“You don't suspect Marienne?” He tilted his head to look at me.
I shrugged.“Even if I suspect her, I really don't have proof so I'd rather pretend not to know how much she wants me off the throne.”
“Will Damien stay behind?”
“Yes. He will report to you the happenings of your pack while you sit here and rule. Anyone who wants to go against you, kill the person immediately. You are way too soft for my liking.”
I snorted. “I don't think so though.” Whatever he wanted to say, I beat him to it. “How do I contact Damien? my phone isn't here with me.”
“I will sort it out, ” he said casually.
“What will you do with the days you have left?”
I blinked. Without thinking, I blurted. “Fucking you of course, it'd be a long, and lonely journey to the afterlife.” Forcing a chuckle, I continued. “Feeling you in-between my legs will be a great companion.”
He was silent for a while. One second, I was almost regretting my choice of words, the next, I was blushing really hard I feared my cheeks would burn.
“Now, don't you think that's a little too selfish of you baby?” He shifted closer to me, the side of his thigh rubbed against my knee. I was busy relishing in the tingles the tiny touch ignited in my body, I didn't notice his face was dangerously close to mine. “Look at me baby.” He requested in a soft voice. His breath was warm against my face.
I obeyed. We stared at each other, his gaze was soft as he searched through my face.
Was he waiting for me to break down?
Just when I thought we were in some staring competition, he brushed his thumb pad lightly on my lower lip as he said, “You can't die baby… unless I say so.” He ceased moving his thumb on my lip, and moved his hand to the back of my neck. I almost leaned into the warmth of his palm against my neck. “But unfortunately, I will never let you go baby.” His face inched closer.
“Even death will be scared of snatching you away from me. You are mine, mine Keira. I don't care how much it'd cost or the dangers I'd face, but I promise you this… I will get you the antidote.” His voice sounded reassuring yet it felt… somehow unsure.
I don't know, it just sounded like… whatever.
I gave him a nod. “I will be waiting.”
Without another word, he tugged me forward with his hand. His free hand framed my cheek, rubbing it just a second lightly before lowering his lips on mine.
The kiss was gentle, and slow unlike our previous kisses which were mostly fierce, and hungry.
This kiss carried the promise of strengthened love, hope, protection, and so many emotions which I gladly welcomed.
My hands found his shirt. Fisting a handful, I dragged him closer. A growl rumbled deep from his chest when my tongue rubbed against his.
I freed his shirt, and wrapped my arms around his neck. Slowly, I took the kiss to another level, my tongue thrusts deep into the sweetness of his mouth. With each groaning sound Kaelan made, the dampness in-between my legs increased, in a nanosecond, I was a writhing mess down there.
Just as the kiss grew borderline filthy, Kaelan pulled out peppering my neck, and behind my ear with kisses instead. “Promise you won't dare to leave me.” He demanded.
“I promise.”
“Good girl.” He murmured before moving his head to the front. “If you dare break your promise–”
I shook my head. “I won't, you have my word.” Relief washed over his facial features.
“You promised, baby.”
I could only nod before he claimed my lips again in a searing kiss.
This time, his hand didn't rest around my neck. He was everywhere, touching me feverishly like he couldn't get of my body.
It wasn't the first, but as always, I loved every bit of where his hand touched, rubbed, squeezed, and fingered. Most of all…
I loved this man.
