Chapter 79 Seventy-Nine
Chapter 79 Seventy-Nine
Keira
“Why are you putting on such a face?”Kaelan asked me once he was done with his phone call, and was back standing before me.
I closed my legs against each other, and adjusted my body from left to right rubbing my thighs against each other in the process. “What face? And why would I make a face unprovoked?” I shot at him. I looked everywhere but his face.
“Exactly what I wanted to ask.” He lowered his head down. I bent backwards, my eyes widened a little at his sudden movement. Eish, it was high time I got used to his moves.
“Don’t tell me you are jealous?” He moved his head closer to my face.
“Of whom?” A dry laugh tore my throat. “You should know that is the one emotion I wouldn't indulge in.”
“Two actually.” He said almost immediately.
I arched a confused brow at him. “What?”
“Trust. Jealousy.” I felt his hand around my waist. I tried as much as possible not to give in to the crazy imagination running through my mind, and put all of my focus on the man talking. My husband actually. And yes, it was a twenty perfect success.
Unfortunately for me, he continued talking, giving me no chance at all to execute the things running in my head.
“You once told me trust is something you can never indulge in. And now, you added another. Jealousy.” His hold tightened around my waist.
“If I must be honest, I am quite hurt that after all the times we've spent together, you don't trust me.” He chuckled a little. “I might be a little heartbroken.”
“Why is this turning into a main topic of discussion?” My words were half a stutter.
I didn't understand why on earth we were talking about me being jealous which I wasn't now, we were talking about my trusting him.
“Should it not?” He just had to lower his head down again, leaving just a little space big enough for our breaths to mix. “So… Do you trust me?”
I blinked once. Twice, and again for the third time.
Okay. That was a sudden question. One that took me unaware.
Do I trust him? Yes. He was my husband, my fated mate, and all that. But that aside, the warm look in his eyes whenever he looked, touched, or was beside me talking to me, keeping all that aside, he was the Alpha king of Shadowmoon pack.
Judging from all the rumors about him, his power, ruthlessness, the authority he possessed, there was no way someone like him wouldn't have something up his sleeves.
“But everyone as long as it is someone who breathes in air for survival is sure to have secrets of their own. Don't be such a killjoy.”
“Ray. Not now, please.”
She scoffed. “Well, I want to talk now. What's with you and doubting our mate?” She snapped while I simply rolled my eyes, and sighed.
“You are yet to give me your response.” Kaelan's voice dragged me back into the veil of reality. “Or should I take your silence for my response?” He stared directly into my eyes making it hard for me to swallow down my saliva.
“If you are going to judge based on my silence, what do you think my response would be?”
He was quiet. He let go of me seconds after I saw his Adam apple bubble a little. “It’s quite obvious. Your body says all there is for me to know. Despite giving me access to your heart, you are still very wary of me. Right?”
I took one step behind. “If you were me, would you not feel the same?” I met his gaze as I waited for my response.
“Why?” He chuckled softly. “You think a day would come where I will hurt you?”
“You won't.” My voice was small. “Do you want to know why?” I didn't wait for his response before saying. “Because we are bonded.”
No one said a word afterwards, letting the throneroom fall into complete thick silence.
“I see you've been reading the book of royalty.” He said after a small laugh which broke the spell of silence hanging heavily over us.
I moved away from him, and walked over to my throne. Without taking my eyes off him, I lowered myself slowly on my throne. “At least now I know it will help me a lot on this journey I decided to embark on. I'm glad I didn't toss it aside when Damien gave it to me.”
“Now you know I would never hurt you, not that I would ever harbor such intentions against you. What other reason do you have not to trust me?”
I almost gasp… no, I did gasp when he suddenly came up before me. One heartbeat, he was standing at least seven to eight steps away from me, the next heartbeat, he was crouching before me, with his hands pressing gently on top of my thighs. His voice was soft when he said, “In as much as I want us to continue this rather awkward conversation–”
“I’m glad you know it is rather too awkward.” I interrupted him.
“I think you should let me go attend to an important issue, I will be back by tomorrow.”
“By tomorrow,” I started to talk without first giving my brain a chance to process my choice of words. A terrible mistake by the way. “Do you mean ‘take care of her until I return’?” The words were out before I realized. My hands flew to my mouth pressing them tight on it to avoid saying any more nonsense.
“Wait! What!!?”
“Ignore my words.” I brought my hands down. “That wasn't what I intended to say.”
He ignored me, and laughed instead. “Are you sure that wasn't what you intended to say?” A mischievous tone laced his voice. “Because I once heard from someone that a wolf never says words totally different from what she intended, or rather planned to say.”
I fixed him a look. “Really? You heard from someone, or that is something you just formed yourself?”
He waved his hand around. “It doesn't matter. My main focus right now is finding out what was behind that tone you used when talking about my last words while I was on call.”
“What tone?”
“A jealous tone.” He responded.
“I wasn't jealous.” I muttered.
“Yes. But you are now.” He insisted.
“Do you enjoy teasing me?” I asked. I leaned forward. “You enjoy it, don't you?”
“I might have gone with a positive response if I were indeed teasing you. In this case however, I am not. Whether you admit it or not, it's already written boldly on your face that you can't help but be jealous.”
I scoffed. “Be going already,” I gestured to the door behind us. “You are beginning to annoy me. In fact, you are annoying.”
“High praise. Thanks baby.”
I blew a sharp breath. “Get out.”
“You don't mean it.”
“Not after you just succeeded in getting me irritated. Just go attend to your matters already, I don't think I want to see you anymore.”
“Your definition of ‘anymore' doesn't mean for eternity right?”
I glared at him. “I wish it were.”
“We both can't survive a day without being with each other. You know that.”
“When you are done talking, just leave.” I stood up, and made to leave, but he gripped me by the wrist forcing me to stand in place.
I honestly had no idea why I suddenly started to behave all cranky. It definitely wasn't because I overheard him talking about taking care of some woman. And besides I know he wouldn't cheat on me, so what exactly was the reason I was behaving all childish?
“I’m sorry, okay, I didn't mean to tease you. I'm really sorry.” While still holding my wrist, he stood up to his full height. He cupped my cheek with his other free hand, his thumb rubbed gently at my face. “I can't bear it if you are angry at me for even a second. I'm really sorry, okay.” He let go of my wrist, taking his hand to my waist instead, and pulled me to himself.
Before I had a chance to pin what he was going to do, his mouth was already on top of mine. This wasn't the first time, but I was certain my heart skipped a beat, and a shudder ran down my spine.
His mouth moved gently against mine, so gentle, and slow like he was in no rush to pull away anytime soon. I delved my tongue inside his mouth while he nibbled on my lower lip like his life depended on it.
Just as I was getting immersed in the kiss, Kaelan pulled away. His ragged breath mirrored mine. “I’m sorry.” He half whispered.
I nodded a little. “It’s fine. Let's not talk about it again.” I smacked on my lower lip. “You should be on your way now, the call sounded like an urgent one.” I added.
A grin appeared on his face. “Oh, now you are chasing me away.”
“Not really. It's just that you are needed back at your pack, I can't be the selfish person, and keep you here simply because I am your wife.”
He chuckled.
“I won't go if you don't want me to go, your words will always be my command, darling wife.” The grin on his face spread wide, threatening to break his face into halves.
“Go on.” I simply muttered.
“You are not even asking what I am going back to attend to.” I fought a snicker when he put on a fake hurt expression.
“Will you tell me if I ask?”
The grin on his face was replaced with a smirk. “Try me.”
“What is the issue you are going back to Shadowmoon pack to attend to?”
“Do you have to be so longminded with your words?”
“I know you won't tell me afterall–”
“My men finally got the spy.” He said.
I swallowed down the rest of my words. “The spy.” I looked at his face as if seeking for confirmation. He gave a short nod.
“Who is she?”
