Chapter 70 Chapter Seventy

Keira

My palms felt a little cold against each other. Rubbing them together didn't help at all.
“Uhm, are you alright?” A worried looking Damien asked me after watching me rub on my cold palms long more than necessary.

I nodded. “Sure, I am okay. Carry on with the report.” I reassured, but even to myself, I knew a weird, and strange kind of cold was seeping up my arm.

He obliged, though he wasn't satisfied that I was okay. Not when I kept groaning non-stop.
He cleared his throat, and was about to resume reading out the report when the door to the throne room open. I was definitely irritated when Marienne walked inside, her annoying son filled behind like a lost, and drenched puppy.

Geez. He reminded me so much of Aiden's son, all the more reason why I want to kill him just as much as I wanted to strangle his mother's neck.

Not bothering to breathe down through my angry nose., I crossed my arms beneath my breasts. “Do you realize what you just did is totally rude, and unacceptable?”

She chuckled. “How so?” She gestured her arms about, turning round slowly as she did so. “I am related to the Alpha, thus, I should be included in whatever meeting, discussion, and whatnot that is been discussed here. Don't you agree.”

She looked at Lucian who nodded quickly. Tsk. What an idiot.
“No,” I shook my head. “But instead of arguing with someone who obviously sold her brains out in exchange for some penny, I'd rather choose to correct you.”

She snickered. “As if a baby Alpha can correct me.”

“You are not related to me in any way whatsoever. You are my uncle's wife. Go do the mathematics, and take your son with you. He might help you if in case you are too dumb to solve the sums yourself.”

“You–” She blanched. “I am not going anywhere.”

“Since when did you start to decide things for yourself?”

“Since the moment your father died.”

“Do you mean to say you murdered my father then?” I was up, and walking down towards her. I walked past Damien who kept sending warning glares to his wife. One which she blatantly ignored.

“Don't level such accusations at me, Keira. I am warning you.”

I said nothing until I reached where she stood, “Firstly, it is not an accusation. Anyone who heard the tone which you used would agree you definitely have something to do with the death of my father. And secondly,” I closed what was left of the little space between us, and grabbed her neck tight. She gasped. Her hands flew up holding my hands in a desperate aim to reclaim back control of her wind pipe.“Did I not tell you I am an Alpha for a reason?” My hold around her neck tightened, and she coughed.

Recalling how she warned me, I chuckled at her audacity. “You now dare to warn me,” I chuckled again. “Just exactly who the fuck do you think you are, huh?”

“Oh, I didn't realize you are afraid to die yourself.” I let go of her neck, she staggered backwards, falling into her son arms. She kept coughing uncontrollably.

“Are you going to leave now, or do you still want to talk some more?” I blew on my fingers. “I have all the time in the world.” I added.

Without another word, she scrambled out of the throne room. I fell on my knees the moment the door shut behind her. “Alpha–”

I shook my head immediately. “Don't raise an alarm, I am fine. I just need to see a doctor, I should be okay after I get checked up.”

He tried to protest, but a warning glare from me had him clamping his mouth shut.

He reached out on my request, and helped me up. “And make sure you don't say a word about this to the Alpha king. At this moment, I can't say if you serve me, or him.”

“Of course, you are the only one I serve.”

I scoffed. “Noy when you keep reporting everything about me to him.”

“Yes, that's because you are his wife. And his fated mate.”

“Did I detect a happy note in your voice?”

He shrugged. “Everything only for a few is happening just the way the late Alpha hoped, I have no reason not to be happy.”

I eyed him sharply. “Was our marriage already premeditated?” I stopped walking at once. “Are you saying my late father was in support of this?” If it was when I hadn't fallen in love with Kaelan, hell... I would have ranted, but now... Well, I don't even know how I feel.

“Something like that.” Came his short response.

“Was my father close to Kaelan?” I asked before I could hold my words back. “If so, how close were they?”

Was that why I saw the same painting in my room in Kaelan's room too? Just what kind of connection did they share when my father was still alive? Was that why Kaelan was quick to propose marriage?

Now that I think about it again, Kaelan didn't just marry me just for the sake of sharing in his power with him. There was another reason. One which i was unaware of.
“I am sorry, but I have no answer for that.”
“I see.” I would get the answers myself. I resumed walking. “I think I am fine now, no need to go to the hospital, maybe a little rest, and I'd be fine.”

“Or would you rather take a walk around the pack?” He suggested. A twinkle appeared in his eyes. “It's evening already, and you won't feel that stressed out after the walk.” He tried to convince me.

I pursed my lips together, pretending to be thinking hard about his suggestion. “You know what?” I said after some minutes. “A walk isn't that bad at all.”

He smiled. His eyes trailed down my long flowery gown. ”Will you be comfortable in that?”

I looked down at it, and agreed immediately I needed to change into something else. “I will be down in a short while.” I didn't wait for his response before skipping away in the direction of my room.

“Does it feels refreshing?” Damien asked. His eyes looked mine while he waited for my response.

We were currently inside a coffee shop. We had wanted to pass by, but the inviting sweet scent of different coffee flavors assaulted my nostrils, making it rather impossible to take a step past the coffee shop.

I slipped into a seat opposite him, stretched my hand, and grabbed my glass of ice water sitting in the middle of the table. “Yeah,” I breathed. “Other than my high breathing, I think the walk was what I needed. Thank you.”

He shook his head. “It's nothing, I'm glad I could help.” He picked up his glass, tipped his head backwards, and emptied his water in one, or maybe two gulps.

“So...” I dropped my glass down. “I have a question.”

“I hope I can provide the answers.” He straightened, but continued holding onto his empty glass.

“Oh, don't worry. You will definitely have the answers for it, except you don't want to share it with me.”

“And that will make you distrust me the more,” He leaned in, finally dropping his glass. My eyes followed his arms which he placed on top of the table, to balance his weight. “You don't trust me that much, right Alpha Keira?” I could almost hear the disappointment in his voice.

I chuckled. “Won't I be considered a fool of I let you have my trust completely?” I met his gaze, my voice turned cold as I said, “What you are showing me now might be the good part of you, on what grounds should I stand that you don't harbor any bad intentions towards me?”

His gaze didn't break. “So you think I am in league with my wife?”

“Might. But who knows?”

He chuckled, and finally broke the eye contact when our orders were served. He relaxed back after muttering a low thank you to the waitress. I did likewise.
“If that was the case, do you think I would have gone through the stress of trying to bring you back here?”

“According to what you said, my marriage to Kaelan was already mapped out by my father,” I paused talking, for a second. “You would want to please the request of a dying Alpha. Now that I am here, and the wife of the Alpha king. My power, and authority undoubtedly doubled. You wouldn't want to show your claws just yet, instead, you decided to lay low, and watch waiting for the perfect time to strike.”
I picked my glass of iced tea, closed my eyes, and lifted it to my mouth, taking a gentle sip.

“This is too simple a scheme to use if I want the throne, but yet as simple as it sounds, I wouldn't do that, your highness.”

I opened my eyes, and laughed..“You saw through my words?” I kept my drink back down.

“A trap rather.” He responded with a laugh. “Words can be implicating depending on how it's used.”

I nodded. “Not bad.” I stretched my palm out in his direction.

“Does this mean I have your full trust now, Alpha Keira?”

“Yes, of course. Though I don't indulge in that, however, I am ready to give you the benefit of doubt.”

A grin took over his face. “I won't disappoint you.” He accepted my handshake.

“So far, you haven't.” I said. “That aside,” My face turned serious again. “Why have you found about the bastard who took my father's coffin, and have the nerve to threaten me?”

I wasn't surprised when he shook his head. “Whoever did that sure did a very good job covering up their tracks. I couldn't cling on something,.not even a clue.”

I sighed, and hit my palm against the table. “The person already knew beforehand that you'd take me to his burial site, they had the time to perfectly carry out the act. What irks me the most of all, is the fact that I was threatened.” I scoffed. “I should be scared of sitting on a throne that belongs to me.” I couldn't hold back an amused Iaugh.

“Other than your wife, and of course your son, am I dragging the throne with anyone else?”

“Probably her followers.” He answered. “Are you thinking she's the one behind it?”

“Who else would want the throne, and was still yet to make his or her presence known?”

“Well, the Marienne I know, she won't do something as obvious as that.”

“Then,” I hit my middle finger on the table. “Who the fuck could be the person behind this?”

He sighed. “Well, for now, let's just keep on investigating. Or,” His eyes when his gaze met mine was filled with a sudden kind of renewed hope.

Oh, I already knew what he was going to say. And yes, I was definitely right.

“What do you say of asking the Alpha king for help?”

I shook my head with a small frown. “No.” I said with a tone that held no room for arguments.

I didn't want to ask, and I wouldn't. After all, he already knew that someone moved my father's coffin. I was still yet to know how he got hold of the information about the threat letter.
Even if he didn't tell me, I knew he was already searching for the culprit. Let's say then, I wasn't certain. However, now that I know my he, and father knew each other other than knowing they both rule a pack, I was sure he was already digging to know who dared to do such a thing.

I lifted my drink up, shook it a little, before taking a long drink from it.

“If you are done,” Damien said, and I looked at him just in time to see him glancing at his wristwatch. “We should head back, it's getting pretty late.”

“Sure.” I drank what was left of my drink. “Let's go.”

He excused himself to go pay for the drinks, while I walked outside to wait for
him. The cool evening air hit my face the moment I stepped outside. It swayed my hair all over my face making me regret taking a walk without packing my hair.
