61. Hunting Reyes And Loving Mum
Liam James’ Pov
Eleanor.
We are so close to finding the answer. The proof to bringing Mr. Reyes down. Please stay put.
Keep fighting, like the strong woman you are.
Every instant, as time passed, I could tell red was in trouble. Mr Reyes, was someone highly dangerous. And, I had to take caution when dealing with him. Since he was in town, it was so much better.
I would be able to keep tabs on his business back in Mexico, and his intentions with red. I needed to know why he’d suddenly show up after all the years, to ruin her life.
What exactly did he even want from her?
“Solomon,”
I stated, after dialing my ex-assistant’s number. He had been the one helping me all this while, to find out clues to bring Reyes down.
Even though he wasn’t my assistant anymore, I called him from time-to-time. Seemed like he was extremely good at his job as my right-hand man. And, was a professional— quite experienced in all fields.
“Boss Liam”
He replied me back.
I sighed, with a hand on my forehead as I sat on my office chair. It seemed that whatever dirty secret the man had, was far off underneath. And to uncover them, I untangled them with loads of billions to purchase devices— that would lead me to him.
Anything for red. Anything to save her.
“I sent men to spy on Reyes and what he has been up to lately. They said he’s trying to join allies with Mr Lopez and some of the people that clashed with the James family in the past.”
“That son of a gun.” I swore, clenching my fists.
He wasn’t after only Eleanor. He was trying to get back at me after I rejected the merging deal back in Mexico. After discovering that he was dirty, I took all steps back. That definitely got him pissed.
But I haven’t even expected him to be this angry. He must have some narcissist egoism issues.
I cleared my voice. “What else did you find?”
“I’m so close to hacking his dirty office records boss. But something keeps preventing the hacker I hired. Blue Spirit’s system is very fortified.”
He explained, with distress lurking his voice.
“They definitely have been playing this game long enough. And the entire board is no longer filled of amateurs. Instead, bloody professionals.”
“Okay. Fine. But how long would it take before we get the proof?”
I asked him, loosening the tie around my neck and settling more in the office chair.
“Please hold on sir, let me confirm from him.” Solomon muttered. I heard some rumblings, as he spoke to the hacker he hired.
I knew it. I knew how dangerous this man could be.
After I saw some of his dealings in trafficking women and children, I knew he had no heart or whatsoever.
This was why I had hired some men, to watch Eleanor, in case things went out of control. I couldn’t imagine losing her to that greedy and contemptuous business man.
He definitely wanted to take advantage of her kind heart, and trap her. My red couldn’t be trapped for any reason.
Not when Liam James was alive.
I will forever make him pay in spades; in he lifts a hand on her. Or manipulates her, into doing his bidding.
Solomon was back on the phone, in a few minutes.
“About some hours.” he replied my question.
“He needs to figure out something to decode the codes.”
He answered.
“Fine then. Just get back to me the second he’s done.”
I said, before hanging up. My hand moved up to my charcoal-black hair, ruffling them.
I had to trust him. I just had to.
Nevertheless, if things didn’t go well, I would have to use the James family way.

Eleanor’s Pov
“You just tell her the words, ‘I’m sorry’ Eleanor.”
I paranoidly told myself, referring to mum.
“She would understand. That you weren’t yourself that day, that you felt betrayed…and confused.”
I tried to see it in a good way but remembering the broken look on her face, made me feel bad.
Aish!
I had hurt her and I didn’t mean to. I really really didn’t mean to.
“Eleanor dear, is that you?”
A voice let out, as I walked into our house. Would surely inform her about moving into our former house the company had given us. Once this issue was resolved, I would.
Jackson had been a big help lately. He had left me after walking me home. I hoped Chloe found the right man in him and never let him go. For he was a good one.
“Mum…”
I trailed out. “Aunt Maggie.”
I acknowledged giving her a slight kiss on her cheeks, just like we greeted in Spanish culture. It’s being long since I even felt connected to my identity and culture.
Coming to America, mum made us forget the past because she didn’t want any issue.
“You silly child! Your mum was really worried about you. She didn’t want you getting into the wrong hands,” Maggie scolded, with a warm smile.
“She was?” I could have sworn a certain part of me died down, the minute she said those words.
I looked at mum. Her strikes of grey hair were beginning to get obvious. “Yes, dearie. You had me worrying a lot, I mean you didn’t even sleep at home for days!”
She breathed out, exclaiming.
“Thought you went off with that evil man,”
I chuckled a bit at her savage words, and so did Maggie. It was nothing new, no wonder Chloe got along so well with mum. She was savage and ratchet, like her.
I shouldn’t wonder where I got my feistiness from, because it was all from her.
“I’ll leave you two now.”
Maggie said, before picking up her support stick, as she walked out the door immediately, closing it behind her. The minute she left, I sat just on the seat she had been, close to mum.
“Mamá…”
“Lo siento.”
I whispered, ‘I’m sorry’ in Spanish, but it was loud enough for her to hear me. She took my hands in hers, immediately.
“What are you doing apologizing, dear? I am the one who’s at fault here. I shouldn’t have hidden those crucial things from you.”
“I mean, you deserved to know.”
“I know mum, but even still, I shouldn’t have brought that man here. He doesn’t know me in anyway. You’re the one that has been here and with me all this while and that’s what matters,” I stated.
“If he hurt you…”
Some sets of tears immediately formed around her eyes.
“Then he hurt me too. I love you mum; I love you so much that you can ever imagine.”
I breathed out immediately, feeling thankful to have her by my side.
“I love you too dear. You mean the world to me, and have always put me first before yourself. We didn’t even have any money when I fell sick, yet you maneuvered your way through,”
She stated. Thinking of that jeered some painful memories. Just like that instant I saw a pool of blood around her body. It was then I realized I couldn’t lose her; ever.
Or else…
Or else…
“I’m proud to have you as my daughter.”
She kissed my hands, entangling it with hers. “And this?”
“It can never replace any other thing in my heart. You’ve always mattered, Eleanor. Like the shining light your name means.”
