60. Railway With Crazy Connections

“It isn’t funny that your dad, a rich billionaire suddenly wants you back?”

Chloe’s words reminisced my head.

“Nope…I mean my mum lied to me, Chloe. And I, um…don’t even know if I should be trusting her again.”

“Why not, she’s your mum. You should know the type of person she is by now, Eleanor.”

“Don’t let some stranger, who was never present ruin that nice relationship between you both.

She might not have given you the comfortable life but you turned out right,”

She had stated.

“I mean, look at you girl. You’re a survivor. As Nikki Fox, the world hated on you but you’re still going.”

“What am I going to do, Clo?”

Almost at the verge of tears, I had asked.

“Talk to your mum, it would make more sense if everyone’s on your side, bestie. We have to bring Mr. Reyes down, if there’s some truth in Liam James’ words.”

I jeered back to reality, holding my bag as I walked meekly.

The wind, blowing my hair widely with my face plastered in unsureness.

These days, it was like I didn’t know what was up with me.

It really felt like things kept happening, and…I couldn’t control them in anyway.

I mean, how did it even come to this?

There was a time back then that I’d give my everything for mum.

My life, my job, anything to make her stable and now? I wasn’t even talking her. I didn’t know her well-being, if she was okay or not…neither.

I recall not even listening to her explanations or hearing her out.

In fact, I had made her feel like a total fool in front of Mr. Reyes who was an obvious bad and wanton man.

“I really need to talk to mum.”

I muttered, just as I walked down the railway.

I had taken this special route, as a shortcut back home. No funds to take transport back. I had rejected any advance charity payment from Liam.

I had to get the job done, before taking anything from Pink Moda.

Good thing because I was used to this. I mean, who was I before Nikki Fox, Pink Moda or any of this drama?

“She must have felt really ashamed in front of that man.”

Just as I was far off in thoughts, a sleek black expensive looking car pulled over, just beside me.

My mouth opened widely in a gasp, after seeing who it was.

“J-Jackson?”

Those words left my mouth, confused as to what he was even doing here.

“Sugar plum.”

He let out, with a gentle smile in his features.

I noticed he was dressed in a normal outfit, which wasn’t white for the first time.

And he was…in a car for crying out loud. Jackson had always been a sucker for motorcycle.

“W-What are you doing in a car?”

Okay, what was I missing?

“Get in.” he ordered.

I took a step back from him.

“Don’t worry, it’s fine. I’m in like a few blocks from home.”

I politely let out, with a wide fake smile.

Was presently trying to prevent myself from crying excessively right now.

I needed to remind myself, I had to stay okay.

I had to stay strong just like I have always been.

As Nikki Fox, or Eleanor Reyes.

“Okay fine,”

Jackson muttered.

I had assumed he was about leaving when he suddenly got down from the car. I saw him tell the chauffeur something.

And that instant, he drove off, leaving the both of us on our toes staring at each other.

“But..”

“Mr!” I called after the chauffeur but he already drove off.

“You have a car, Jackson. Why are you even joining me?”

I stated asking.

He was really a confusing personality. Gentle, kind but also mysterious.

“If my best friend won’t join me, then I’d rather walk on the rail track with her.”

He smiled, saying.

“And if she won’t tell me what’s being going on lately instead of giving a fake smile, I’ll also not leave her.”

My heart thudded faintly, but rapidly the minute he made out those words.

“I am, um.. totally fine really. You don’t have to worry about me at all.”

“Eleanor.”

“I promise, I am. Absolutely!”

“Come here.”

He suddenly pulled me in for hug.

His body was warm but I still struggled to pull back. Instead, he use all of his strength to hold me back.

“W-What are you doing, Jackson? You have to let go, now...”

I gritted out.

“I will. When you tell me what’s wrong, sugar plum.”

“Nothing is…”

I trailed out weakly, thinking of the million issues I had.

My chest heaved in quick paces, and I tried to stop myself from crying. But…of what use would it be anyway?

Jackson had seen me crying most of the times.

“I really don’t know what to do, Jackson...”

“My blood dad suddenly showed up… My mum thinks I hate her and in a few days...I’ll literally be homeless.”

I admitted, with tears surrounding my eyelids.

I had no idea why I was even telling him this.

With Jackson, it was just like it flowed out naturally. Even without him trying.

“You shouldn’t be too hard on yourself, just go one at a time. You’ll figure it all out, I promise.”

His words were surprisingly comforting and soft.

“But how?”

“If my biological dad is dangerous as they say, would we even survive this?”

I let out.

“Liam thinks playing along, till we find a solid proof’s the solution. But what if we end up getting hurt?”

I sniffled, still entangled in the hug saying.

“The James family never fail.”

Jackson suddenly stated, in a determined tone.

“When we want something badly, we get it at all cost.”

He added.

My brows arched at his confidence and I pulled away.

“About your mum, you need to sort out your differences.”

“I’ll talk to the company about your moving into your previous flat. As Liam’s assistant, you’re entitled to more than that.”

His hands moved to my head, patting it a bit.

His every gesture was more like an elder brother.

And I knew it was just like that sometimes.

You found people elsewhere, who weren’t family but you connected.

That’s what Jackson represented for me— Eleanor Reyes.
