Chapter 192 Your manipulation won't work

Chapter 192 Your manipulation won't work
Rhys's POV

My eyes widened as pain shot throughout my body. I knew Zane hated me but I never expected this from him.

My eyes met his and it held nothing but cold, murderous hatred.

“Zane, what… what are you doing?” I whispered.

He scoffed. “Isn't it obvious? I'm killing you.”

He pulled out the blade and stabbed me again before I could react. I gagged, a low groan escaping my lips as he twisted the blade inside my stomach.

I reached for his hand and twisted it, sending a blow across his face. He let go of the knife immediately and staggered back.

Mark rushed forward but suddenly froze when he saw my condition.

“Rhys… Rhys, are you okay?” His voice shook as he walked slowly towards me.

I nodded. “You can say that.”

I reached to pull out the blade but he covered the distance between us in the blink of an eye and grabbed my hand.

“Don't do that. Let's get to the hospital first.”

Zane burst into laughter, staggering towards us. “It hurts, doesn't it?”

Mark snapped his gaze towards him. “Are you insane?”

“Of course, I am.” Zane whispered. “You don't know how long I've been insane.”

I tapped Mark's shoulder. “He's not worth your time.”

Mark pushed my weight onto him and helped me towards the door. We were almost at the door when Zane suddenly charged towards us, holding a hockey stick.

I saw him first and shoved Mark away. Mark was lucky enough to land on the bed but I wasn't. I lost my balance as I had applied a brute force to my push and fell straight onto a pile of broken glass.

It would have just been scratches but unfortunately, the broken shards had its pointed edges facing upright. It sank into every part of my skin, sending searing pain through my veins.

I pressed my lips together, forcing the pain down my throat.

“Does that hurt?” Zane suddenly asked, dragging me back to reality.

That was when I realized he was towering over me.

My jaw tightened, I was at a very huge advantage against him and the hockey stick in his hand wasn't helping matters.

“I don't know exactly why you are doing this but trust me, I don't want your mother nor do I want to be your brother,” I said.

Zane chuckled. “Trust you? Do you think you are a trustworthy person? Do you think being captain or the best hockey player gets you everyone's trust?”

I bit the inside of my cheeks. Zane was being paranoid. Of course, he had always been but this morning, he didn't seem much like it unless someone had triggered that feeling in him.

Only one name came to my mind, Mandy.

My fingers slowly curled into a fist on the floor, shards of broken glasses sinking deep into my palm. I couldn't exactly explain why I was angry but I was angry.

“Did Mandy put you up to this?” I asked.

Zane's expression darkened immediately. He swung the hockey stick but I was quick to dodge. The stick fell on the glasses, breaking into tiny pieces.

“Who gave you the right to call her name?” Zane shrieked.

I rolled to my feet, creating a distance between us. “Is she worth it? Worth destroying your career and life for?”

Zane's eyes flashed with anger. “She's my mother. Don't dare think you can give me any advice?”

“Your mother?” I snickered. “How long are you going to live in that fantasy? Has she ever treated you like a son? Do you think she would ever call you her son in public?”

He lowered his head for half a second and when he lifted his head, his eyes were so cold. He swung the stick again but I was quick to catch it. I snatched it with a brute force that left him staggering.

Before he could regain his balance. Mark yanked him backwards and slammed him against the wall, pinning him there with one of his arms. Without warning, he began throwing punches against Zane's face.

Zane struggled to set himself but he was simply no match for him. In the blink of an eye, Zane's face was covered with blood.

I dragged my feet towards them and pulled Mark away from Zane. “That's enough!”

Mark's face held pure rage. “Enough? He literally asked for death when he destroyed your room and stabbed you.”

Zane slacked to the floor, barely breathing. “Then kill me. Don't tell me you're scared to do so?”

His voice was low and strained without a single humour.

Mark lunged towards him but I was able to stop him before he could hit him again. Zane was intentionally provoking Mark and I just couldn't understand it.

“Let go of me, Rhys.” Mark hissed, fuming with rage.

“Let's go to the hospital first.” I said, pointing to my stomach. “The bleeding is getting too much.”

Mark stared at Zane for a few seconds and snorted before turning his back on him. He had barely taken a step when Zane's voice cut through the air.

“Dear brother, why are you stopping him? Are you afraid your best friend will kill your little brother?”

My jaw tightened but I pretended like I didn't hear him the same as Mark.

“Come on, Mark. I'm sure you can hear me and have a bad personality when pretending. Don't you think so too? Rhys would have pretended not to care… not like he ever did.” He clicked his tongue and continued after a few seconds.

“So why is he suddenly stopping you from hurting me? Do you really think he doesn't care about me and our mother?”

I turned sharply to face him. “Stop that already. Your manipulation won't work.”

“Mark, don't you know what happens when someone finds who exactly they were looking for?” Zane continued, ignoring me completely. “You've stood next to him for more than ten years. Do you think you are going to be able to still stand next to him when his real brother is back?”

Mark stopped mid-step and turned to face me. My breath caught, his gaze was cold, not like the normal gaze he always held.

Before I could say anything, he pulled out the knife from my stomach and rushed towards Zane.
