Chapter 190 Is your parents' separation the reason you are cold and unapproachable?
Rhys's POV
“Coach,” I called, staring at the envelope.
Reed pushed the envelope towards him. “Take it and look at it carefully. Meet me first when you are done.”
I inhaled deeply and picked up the envelope before getting to my feet. “Then I'll be leaving first, Coach.”
He nodded but didn't say a word.
I turned around and walked out of his office, the file grasped tightly around my hand.
I found Mark leaning against the wall outside his office.
“That was fast.” He said when he saw me. “What did he say?”
I lifted the envelope to his eye level.
His eyes widened when he saw it. “Another envelope?”
I shrugged. “I think the right word should be another rule.”
“From the Black city hockey team?” He asked.
I nodded without sparing him a glance.
Silence stretched between us as we walked back to the car and we both got in. The school rink wasn't far from the Knights building so I drove straight there to change clothes before heading back to the hospital.
I pulled up in front of the Knights building and stepped out of the car, a frown appearing on my face when I saw the huge crowd at the entrance of the building.
“Do you think something interesting is going on?” Mark asked with a light chuckle.
“Interesting?” I repeated under my breath. But just then, Zane's face flashed through my mind. He had to always be petty and the only one capable of doing something interesting.
I banged my car door shut and hurried towards the building.
“It's Rhys!” A girl suddenly shouted and in the blink of an eye, the entire student turned towards me. Their bright camera light almost blinded me.
“Rhys, is it true that Zane is your younger brother?”
“Is your parents' separation the reason you are cold and unapproachable?”
“You have always treated Zane harshly. How do you feel about the fact that he's your younger brother?”
“Have you always known he was your younger brother but picked on him because your mother chose him and left you to your cold, indifferent father?”
“Are you both really going to fight over Clare Voss?”
I tightened my jaw. I wanted to yell at them and tear out the lips of those people that made that statement but I knew better.
A whole lot of eyes are on me now and one single mistake might be everything I had trained for, for the past twenty years.
I inhaled deeply and with Mark's help, pushed through the crowd. We made it into the Knights building and Mark banged the door shut.
But unfortunately, there were many more students inside the main living area. They rushed towards me, asking the same line of questions I had received earlier.
No matter how much I tried to push through, the crowd wouldn't bulge. When I couldn't take it anymore, I snatched more than four people's phone and smashed it against the huge smart TV at the center of the room.
The sound echoed loudly through the room and silence followed immediately.
“One more question. One more word and you'll be explaining to my team's lawyer.” I snarled, my eyes sweeping through the room.
Everyone turned away, avoiding my eyes.
Mark snatched a phone from a girl, slammed it against the wall and slapped the girl twice. His eyes were squinted and dead cold.
“And you still dared to video?”
Everyone lowered their phone, taking a step back.
“Get out of my way!” Rhys hissed.
His path was cleared immediately and he walked through with Mark trailing after him. They made it to the top of the stairs in a few seconds. But murmurs rose from the crowd slowly.
Mark stopped in his tracks and turned to face them. “Entering this building without an invitation and authorization. Should I tell you the consequences or do I invite the lawyer to help me?”
The students turned around and scampered out of the building.
I made my way to my room. I was halfway there when I suddenly froze. Zane was standing right outside my room, his hands were bleeding heavily and from the way glass scattered across the front door. I could only imagine how worse the inside would be.
I covered the distance between us and yanked him backwards. “What do you think you're doing?”
His lips curved into a smile when he saw me. “Did you know how long I waited for you?”
My gaze shifted from him to my room behind him. I didn't see it fully but from where I stood, it was literally a mess. My fridge was tossed on the floor and the contents sprawled all over the floor.
Zane suddenly grabbed my chin and forced my gaze towards him. “You are going to answer me when I talk to you.”
I slapped his hands away, irritation crawling up my skin. Anger and jealousy could make someone do what they thought impossible at first but those emotions should always remind anyone of a limit they couldn't cross.
My gaze scanned him from his head to his foot. He was a mess of himself. His hair was rough and smelt so bad that I almost threw up. His sleeve was rolled up and each of his arms both bore an injury.
Swear ran down his almost dark face, disappearing into the collar of an old jacket. He was obviously bigger than the jacket, like it was an old cloth he had. His trousers were almost the same sharp except there were holes in them.
He wasn't wearing a cover shoe so glass shards stuck to his toe nails and the back of his feet.
Zane threw a blow on my face, dragging me back to reality.
“I asked a question, Rhys. Didn't you say you don't want me or my mother?!” He snapped.
I used my tongue to massage the inside of my cheeks, lifting my gaze to meet his gaze.
“Do you think I'll change my mind?” I asked, my voice cold.
He scoffed. “Don't give me that cold attitude. You called me earlier today to talk to my mother, didn't you? You were acting so tough and cold to her this morning because Mark was there, right?”
