Chapter 210 THE FOGGY MEMORY
AURORA’S POINT OF VIEW.
ONE WEEK LATER….
Seven days… a full week after the chaos that ensued at my supposed engagement ball, and i stil haven’t recovered. It felt like I’d put on a new skin. The moment Morgan was taken out, Irene, the chair of the Orsini, walked to the stage with one announcement;
‘The Vistaline Air group will, as of this moment, be returned to Everleigh and her descendants according to the original plan of Carla and Carlyle De la Vista years ago. Since Everleigh is currently sick and indisposed to receive treatment, and Aurora is quite young and inexperienced, I believe we should seek a person to help manage the affairs of the company for now.” She’d said with a smirk. “I volunteer myself as the interim head while the real owners are out.”
“That is unnecessary, Irene.” Kai hissed, staring at Irene as one would regard a slithery snake. I didn’t even know what to think. If I took over the Vista line Air, something I always wanted to do….it would be a dream. I’d probably die from joy. I wanted to speak; to make the decision, but for some reason, the events of a couple of seconds ago clung to my mind.
Denise’s body was just covered for fucks sake, and we were to discuss who would take over? This is why I was partially glad mom and I were kicked out. The elite of Westridge were soulless.
“What is it, young man?” She said, regarding Kai with a fake smile. Irene was an opportunist; she’d been that for as long as I could remember. Nothing slipped her hands as long as it could benefit her.
“Aurora is the head, as is her mother… and her mother is not indisposed.” Irene’s smile dropped, along with my heart. What does he mean?
We spoke to the doctors the other day, and while they did say the neurotoxins in her brain and the poison in her blood were almost fully drained out, there was no way she was already okay. Kai turned to me, a look of pure joy mixed with elation in his perfectly dark eyes.
“What the hell do you mean, young Mercer?” Irene asked through gritted teeth. ‘You did just say she was hospitalized.”
“I did….But I never said she wasn’t already healed.” I frowned, not ready to believe it. Was Mom okay? Was Kai lying to keep Irene out of Vista Line?
“What?”
“Everleigh is fully awake and on her feet, Irene,” Silas spoke, his cane tapping the marble floors as he walked over to the doors leading to the exit. He knocked three times, each knock more distinct and distant from the other. “You did not think I would let you anywhere near my family’s investment, did you?”
Irene’s stormy grey eyes turned over, a sneer on her lips. But my focus was on that door. My heart lurched in my mouth, each moment dipped in ice as I watched with rapt attention. Just then, the handle turned, and the door was pulled open from the outside.
The first thing I noticed was the shoes… only Everleigh De la Vista could have on. Then it was the white dress; another thing my mother had trademarked for herself ever since father kicked us out. She believed she was in mourning, and never put on any other color since then.
Then, I looked past her neck, her chin,….and her face. Until I looked into her eyes, I realized something: my dream had come true.
After months of being ill and bedridden, my mother was on her feet, alive…breathing….and in front of me.
