Chapter 190 THE SHOW WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR.
AURORA’S POINT OF VIEW.
The air in the VIP lounge turned chilly as I watched Morgan march over to us. I did not feel fear….only anticipation. I wondered what she thought of me, of the fact that I was here. Just two weeks ago, I would have only dreamed of ever being invited to anything the horsemen or their girlfriends held. Now, I’m a verified guest.
"Well, well," she purred, her voice dripping with the kind of condescension that used to make me want to hide in a locker so she would not notice me. Her eyes drifted over to Kai’s grip on my waist, and I relished the envy in them. "I didn't know the notorious horsemen allow scholarship trash into their events….I mean, if I were the one having the party, I would like to know they’re giving out 'Plus-One' passes to the help tonight."
I felt Kai’s hand tighten on my waist in a silent, grounding force. I knew he wanted to speak, but I didn't wait for him to defend me. I grabbed the glass of champagne from a waitress and took a small sip. The rush of alcohol in my bloodstream made me flush….and bold from the buzz.
“Scholarship trash?” I chuckled. “I see Dad did not give you the memo yet, dear sister.” I turned to Kai, the smirk he flashed at me egging me on.
“What memo?” Morgan blinked, clearly confused.
“I know words are a strange concept to you, Morgan. So I am going to say this as slowly as possible……scholarship student; no more…..tier two student, as in daughter of the Armando De la Vista of Vistaline air; yes, now…..is that slow enough for you?” I clapped. “Or do we need to get someone who can speak dumb and dumber? I’m sure we can find….I mean.” I waved at them. “You have two qualified ones right behind you, like the sheep they are.”
Morgan’s face dropped instantly….no…it disintegrated. Her cheeks turned even redder until I was sure there would be some steam coming pushing out of her ears.
“What did you just say?” She hissed through gritted teeth, her hands clenched as tight as her jaw….well, as far as her botox would allow.
“Seriously, Morgan, did all that Botox get to your brain?” I rolled my eyes. I was truly exasperated. “What makes you think I would ever speak dumb for you? Ask one of your cronies….I’m sure they can speak your language. Birds of a feather do flock together.” Kai and I snickered at the same time.
Everyone had gathered now, their phones out filming every bit of this. I could imagine the school blog getting on fire in a few hours… everyone who had a phone in this school would see Morgan’s disgrace. For the first time, I would not be the one kneeling, a bottle of expired yogurt mixed with honey all over my hair while everyone laughed.
That day, Morgan had cornered me, the entire school laughing along, calling me the illegitimate daughter as she poured everything down my head. I had not dared fight back. Not while my mother lay at their mercy. If my dad had a mood swing, she would suffer for it.
Now, all bets are fucking off.
The silence that followed was heavy, expensive, and absolutely delicious. Morgan looked like she was choking on her own tongue. She reached out, her hand trembling as she grabbed Tobi’s arm, but he wasn't looking at her.
He was looking at me, his eyes wide, and tracing the line of my neck, the curve of my waist, the sheer power radiating off me. He looked like a man who had realized he’d traded a diamond for a piece of glass and was now cutting his hands on the shards.
“Tobi….say something.” She whined, and just then, Kai spoke up.
“Yeah, Tobi.” He dared. “Please, say something…..I dare you.” He had a smile on, it looked gentle, easy-going, and calm….But I had a feeling there was something else behind it.
I turned to stare at my ex-boyfriend, and I swear I heard him whimper. He looked away instantly, and in the blink of an eye, he took to his heels, running in the opposite direction and out of the party.
“Ha! Look at your man, Morgan…..cowardice, cheating, and stupidity must run in your lineage….after all, Denise is your mother,” I smirked.
“You’re lying,” Morgan spat, the tremor in her voice betraying her false bravado. “Dad would never acknowledge you. You’re a stain on the family name… You should never have been born, he told me, I was the special one…. You are not his daughter…he does not acknowledge you! You’re nothing but a….”
“A De La Vista? Well, according to Daddy Dearest, I am. But you want to know who I truly am, dear sister?” I interrupted, tilting my head. “Actually, I’m the future Mrs Mercer, something you will neber ne... something you want, but I will get. While you have to watch and see it happen.
“Future Mrs Mercer?” They gasped, talking amongst themselves. “Is it true….are she and Kai…?
