Chapter 57 Peter Caldwell
Chapter 57 Peter Caldwell
Maya
“Are you sure you’re okay now?” Michael asked as I joined him behind the counter. I forced a smile at him as I tied the apron around my waist.
“Yeah.” I muttered before glancing into the kitchen. “I’ll be better off there than here,” I do not have the energy to attend to customers. I was physically fine but just not in the mental state right now.
Goosebumps broke out on my skin and I felt cold travel down my spine. I perked up and suddenly felt self-aware and no, it wasn’t because Michael was watching me like a hawk watches her prey.
Someone was watching me.
I stared at the handful of customers scattered around different tables and my eyes clashed with one of them. Not just a customer— Liam.
I tore my gaze away from him as my heart began aching. It was a new feeling.
Not pain, not heartbreak. Just a different feeling on its own but not better than the others.
I turned to Michael.
“I’ll be inside,” I muttered and not waiting for his response, I turned around and walked into the kitchen.
A couple of girls were whispering in hushed tones and gushing over something. I could guess what it was.
Especially when they were the same set of girls who’d brought the Liam news. They’d seen him. One of them atleast.
“Hey. Is there still stuff to do around here?” I asked and one of them turned to me.
“Maya? Why are you here?” She asked, leaving their little group and walked towards me. She narrowed her eyes watching me closely.
“Are you okay?” She asked and I nodded while I tried to remember her name. Sara?
“I’m good. Just got bored at home,” I gave a small smile and she nodded even though she looked unconvinced.
“Is there anything to do around here?” I pressed again and she nodded.
“Yeah, actually. The dishes.” She sighed, glancing back at the girls. “They’ve been gushing over Liam’s autograph on Lily’s note,” one of my brow raised slightly.
An autograph?
“I’ll take care of the dishes,” I muttered and she gave me a grateful smile before rubbing my shoulders and returning back to the girls.
I dropped my bag but my phone pinged at that exact moment. I froze.
I’d gotten a text that said something about my biological parents, but I waved it off at the last minute. It could have been an error, a mistake.
Probably wasn’t intended for me but hearing that sound, had me all on alert.
Yesterday was the first text I’d received in a while. And getting two in less that twenty fours didn’t sit well with me.
I got my phone out of my bag and glanced around before opening the text.
||Peter Caldwell. First son of Lena and Caldwell.
||Jeffery Caldwell. Second son. Maya Caldwell, only child of Peter Caldwell.
My blood ran cold and for a minute, I stood frozen just staring at my phon screen.
Peter and Jeffery Caldwell.
One of the names rang a bell. Jeffery Caldwell. The name of my dad. Until I found out recently, he wasn’t my biological father.
They’d never really talked about my grandparents ever since they passed since I was young. I could barely even remember their names but Lena sounded a little familiar but i couldn’t exactly place it.
But Peter?
Dad had an elder brother? One who never visited? Whom he never spoke of or had any childhood picture of them in the house.
Hell, I could swear he was an only child. What was even more disturbing was that I was the child of this so called Peter. I blinked.
Well, whoever the sender was, they’ve caught my attention.
My fingers flew on the screen as I typed a response and hit the send button but it bounced back a second later. Fuck!
I dropped the phone and was about to run my fingers through my hair when I realized I couldn’t.
I managed to shake off the thoughts flooding my brain and quickly did the dishes even though I kept zoning out.
By the time, I closed for the day and took a cab to Shay’s. Liam was the farthest thing from my mind and I already came to the resolution that I might have to pay an unwanted visit.
I had to return back to town and go see my parents. They sure had questions to answer.
Who the fuck was Peter Caldwell?
