ALPHA'S MISERY

ALPHA'S MISERY
Chapter 95

Thompson's pov

“Long live the Alpha. May the departure of your beloved mate never bring a fall in your reign. Live on for more years by the assistance of your wife, our Luna.’’ Thales recited, with sympathy and remorse etched all over his old folding face like every other person in the memorial hall.

“We pray thee oh precious moon goddess.’’ The crowd chorused.

Turning from me to face the crowd in his flowing white robe, Thales declared;

“You may now pay your homages to the Alpha's deceased mate.’’

I was fed up with having to go through all the process of Annalise's interment sessions.

Sitting before the crowd of pack members who were only present to sympathize my loss with me, not to sincerely mourn Annalise's demise. Having them wear those fake looks of remorse on their faces when deep in their hearts they believed her death was only a price she deserved.

I'd rather the interment process went on quietly without anybody having to force themselves pretending there was an atom of sadness in their hearts regarding her death.

I watched them parade one after the other in a straight line, paying insincere homage to Annalise's enlarged picture frame hanging on the wall with flowers of many beneath it.

I couldn't watch any longer. I stood from my desk and marched down the hall to the doors, ignoring the stares that followed my figure. Not even Thales asking about my destination did I respond to.

I didn't stop walking until I was in the living room, collapsing on a couch.

Not too long after, someone barged into the room with heavy footsteps. I didn't bother looking up despite that, until her voice roared into the silence.

“What do you think you're doing!’’

“Quietness, Eliza. Quietness!’’ I yelled back.

“What do you mean quietness? You shouldn't be here.’’ She insisted, holding her protruding tummy through her black maternity dress.

“And why not?’’

‘‘Are you kidding me right now?’’

“Look it's no one's business what I choose to do. I don't want to be there and I'm not going there.’’

‘‘Well unfortunately this is your mate in question. Maybe if it was Alessia your choice might be justified….’’

“And who said I care about her more than I care about Alessia?’’

“Huh?’’ She stepped back puzzledly.

“Annalise brought this upon herself. You think they're mourning her out there? They're only making mockery of her.’’ I gassed out.

“Are you trying to switch sides now because Annalise is dead? Tell me, if she was standing right here would you have said what you just said?’’ She smirked, mockingly.

“I don't care what you think.’’ I stood heading for my master's bedroom before a thought struck me.

I reversed my step and headed for the stairs instead.

‘‘Get back here Thompson. You can't keep the hall void of your presence.’’ Eliza called after me, but I had the least will of giving ears to her.

I drew in a deep inhale as I stepped into the room. Memories of Alessia were etched everywhere in the space, from her satisfying addictive scents to the image of her figure all around the room doing this or that.

A loud sigh came off my lips.

I'd been blind all along. Blinded by my foolishness to see beyond that meets the eye.

Annalise had been the bad blood all along. If I hadn't brought her home from the party that night, I'd have realised my love for Alessia and expressed it much sooner than now, and our lives wouldn't have gotten so ruined. She would never have gotten involved with lycan Cyril and would probably tell me earlier about their mate connection. Everything wouldn't have been this complicated.

Knock. Knock.

“I said I'm not going out there, can you listen to me for once Eliza?’’ I groaned out frustratedly.

“I'm sorry Alpha, Alpha Crestwood requests to see you.’’ Regal sounded behind the door instead.

My heart skipped a beat in anticipation, a spark of hope lighting up in my head. I pulled the doorknob and stepped out immediately, having Regal follow after me.

“Where is he?’’ I asked and noticed a figure at the living area, seated on the couch I occupied just minutes ago.

“That's him.’’ Regal mumbled to my hearing.

I took the remaining steps down the stairs alone to join him.

‘‘Greetings, Alpha Crestwood.’’

‘‘It's my pleasure. How are you holding up?’’ He pulled on a smile, one that was obvious he forced it.

“That's not necessary. Let's get straight to it.’’ I answered squarely, keeping my gaze strictly down.

“Hmmm.’’ He nodded.

‘‘What was the conclusion between you both?’’ I inquired. It was no question who our subject of discussion centered on.

“Our conclusion, Alpha Thompson, is still yet unfavourable.’’ He paused, allowing me a chance to swallow the thick lump that formed in my throat.
‘‘The lycan wouldn't give up, he seems to have some other motive behind simply taking her for his mate. His resolution remained unshakeable.’’

I creased a brow as a thought hit me.

Alessia had mentioned about some rituals to save the lycans kingdom from a certain curse being the reason behind her staunch with unjustified claims that it was her destiny to fulfil. Perhaps, that same reason applied to Cyril’s resolution as well?

“Do you happen to know about a curse on the lycan kingdom?’’ I presented, hoping to get more information from him.

Crestwood had shared the longest relationship with the lycans so he should at leady know about that detail.

‘‘Or is it confidential secret?’’ I added.

“What are you talking about?’’ He asked back.
If not for the clueless expression spread across his brows, then the disappointing tone accompanying his voice was enough to prove his oblivion.

“Wow. You don't know such vital information despite your years of friendship?” I scoffed, in utter disappointment.

“What's your deal, Alpha Thompson.’’ He growled lowly. It definitely thwarted his ego, especially with his knowledge of the nature of my relationship with Cyril just months ago.

“How about we find out what it is they have kept hidden under their sleeves for so long? Who knows, the results might become our ticket to get him under our thumbs.’’ I smirked, knowing there wasn't a single way in hell he'd decline this offer.
