READY OR NOT?
READY OR NOT?
Chapter 90
Alessia's POV
“Get back here. You can't just leave like that after making such ridiculous outburst.’’ I hurried after Cyril’s moving figure, my heart in my mouth.
He didn't stop. Not until he got to the elevator, intentionally bouncing the stairs.
I gathered everything in me to reach him before the elevator went shut, tapping on the button urgently until it reopened for me to get in.
“What do you think you're doing!’’ I bursted out as I joined him in the elevator.
He stayed silent.
‘‘What was that you said to me outside?’’ I demanded, my heart thumping at the pace of a boiling soup as I anticipated his response.
“It's unconfirmed. Alfred would be the one to have the perfect response.’’ As if he'd waited for the right moment, the elevator doors opened with a ding immediately after his voice.
He literally shoved me aside and stepped out.
I staggered back against the wall of the elevator, lights leaving my face once more as Cyril's outburst coursed through my mind.
Why hadn't I thought about it? These signs were just exactly as it was when I conceived Adrian. I was really pregnant again.!
‘You're with a fucking pub in your belly but who’s the father?’ Cyril's voice echoed in my head for the thousandth time but ‘who's the father’?
“Is he fucking crazy? There is no way my pregnancy belongs to Thompson. It's been months! Three whole months since Thompson touched me.’’ I screamed, my voice echoing back to my ears in the sound space of the elevator.
How I got to my room remained a misery, soaked in deep thoughts about this profound news of my pregnancy.
There was nothing to doubt about, I was indeed pregnant. What I dreaded mostly was getting to know who the father was. Thompson or Cyril? Although whichever of them it might be didn't make any difference. It was uncalled for to be pregnant at this time!
“My lady.’’ Melanie knocked gently at the door, pulling me out of my unpleasant reverie.
“It's open.’’ I managed a wave.
She walked in, silently at ever. “Doc Alfred is here….’’
My heart sank. Deep! Down to the pit of my abdomen!
“....The king asked me to get you.’’ She completed.
“It's a pleasure to meet you again, lady Alessia.’’ Alfred extended a hand to me with sincere beams on his face.
I managed a tiny smile as I accepted his gesture. It wasn't a time to be happy for me, and unfortunately I couldn't put on a front with the gravity of the situation for me.
“Please take a seat on the bed.’’ He gestured warmly.
Cyril stood by all along, watching quietly as Alfred prepared the equipments for the test. Once Alfred excused himself to get something that seemed kidding, Cyril approached me.
“Do you remember exactly how long it's been since we were intimate?’’
‘‘What?’’ I cut out, totally not seeing that question coming at all.
‘‘Uh..I mean no. I don't think so.’’ I avoided his gaze, totally embarrassed for some reason.
“How about him then?’’ His face folded to an ugly scowl.
‘‘What do you mean?’’ I flinched.
“Is there a problem?’’ Alfred returned.
Without any other words, Cyril marched out of the room. I swallowed nothing, keeping my gaze low to avoid Alfred’s questioning eyes on me.
“All done. The results would be out by tomorrow morning.’’ He smiled, taking out his sanitation gloves after putting away the syringe which contained my blood.
“Thank you.’’
I stepped down and almost walked out when already reached a hand against my shoulder.
‘‘Be strong. It'll all turn out positively.’’
I wasn't sure what he meant exactly, but those words found me deeply.
I nodded, acknowledged the smile that spread across his face, before heading out.
I expected Melanie to be by the door, waiting, but she was nowhere to be found.
Stepping into the bedroom, I overheard someone throwing up badly in my bathroom. I rushed to it immediately, but stopped dead on my tracks, shocked to my spines to see Melanie as I pushed the door open.
“M-mel?’’ I stuttered, unable to grasp the terrifying reality.
“I'm sorry. I'm really sorry my lady. Forgive me.’’ She bowed repeatedly, wiping her lips.
“Are you…okay?” That was all I actually cared to know.
“I overfed. I was busy dressing stuffs when the urge came. Please forgive me.’’ She sniffled, fucking crimson all over her face.
I sighed, lost for words and simply watching her. She squeezed past me out of the bathroom, and before I knew it she was out of the room.
The second day was finally here, with me held up at Aloha’s sacred parlour since early hours of the morning. I at least appreciated the fact that she didn't make me carry a bowl of concoction today even though walking round the kingdom wasn't evitable.
She'd been on chants since we returned, while I knelt in the sacred circle she drew with a white substance from yesterday. My skin burned. The part of my skin with the cresent shaped mark. But it wasn't unbearable.
Tomorrow was finally the day of the actual ritual. Will I get to see the light of the day after tomorrow?
“You will have to spend the night here tonight.” Aloha announced as we rounded up the process for today.
‘‘H-huh?’’
‘‘The Alpha already knows about all these, perhaps, he didn't tell you?’’ She inquired, watching my features keenly as we walked down to the car.
“Oh. It probably skipped his mind. See you at evening then.’’ I forced a smile which she slightly reciprocated.
Alan pulled the car door for me which was quite surprising but I hopped in. Cyril wasn't with us this time, neither was Melanie.
“Drive safe.’’ Aloha remarked, and I nodded in response before the glass winded up.
I didn't get to see Cyril again after he left the clinic like that yesterday. Alan wouldn't say a word to me. Lance was nowhere to be seen around these days.
A long sigh left my lips, my eyes shutting in sync. I was woken by light taps from Alan, announcing our arrival.
I got down, rubbing my eyes lightly when I caught Alfred standing at the entrance of the mansion.
