EMBRACING FATE

EMBRACING FATE
Chapter 81

Alessia's pov

He wouldn't sleep. No, he couldn't sleep. He kept staring into my face even though he felt totally sleepy and was literally half asleep.

Swiftly wiping the tear that slipped off my eye with the back of my palm, I forced a smile across my lips.

“Sleep, baby. Mummy is not going anywhere this time.” I whispered gently to his hearing.

That didn't bring a fall of his hand anyway, he still clung my arm tightly, like I'd disappear from his sight if he ever released his grip or let his eyes go shut the slightest.

“C'mon baby. You have to sleep, it's late now.’’ My voice trembled, so bad I feared I might break down before him.

“Don't go.’’ He mumbled out sleepily, even though his partly closed eyes wouldn't go shut.

“I'm going nowhere. I promise you.’’ I stroked his hair continuously, hoping my smile looked assuring enough.

It was the most relieving sight ever when his eyelids eventually met, his long lashes sticking out fully in their collision.

I lowered my face to plant a kiss on his forehead, gently dropping his grip on my arm to tuck him properly in bed.

Maybe I was just too overwhelmed after everything that's happened, I couldn't hold back my emotions and wept my heart out.

Just what if!

What if Cyril hadn't found Adrian and took him? What if he had gotten hit and died? The Lycans kingdom wasn't the best place for him to be without close watch, what if the miserable curse on the city had struck and Adrian got attacked?

Annalise's gonna pay for every single damage she's done. She won't get away with it. I'll make sure of that!

With one last look at Adrian, I stormed out of the room. I got my phone to dial Thompson, he should have gotten back by now.

Once his name appeared on my screen, I was forced to a compelling pause as a memory flashed through my head……

“What do you mean, you couldn't even look after him for a few days.’’ I barked defiantly at Thompson.
I had my mind made up already. Adrian wasn't leaving and that was final. If Thompson tried too much, I'll have the lycans beat him up after taking Adrian out of the scene. I was pretty sure Alan wouldn't mind, Lance on the other hand would be the happiest by such request.

Thompson went silent, his gaze following Cyril’s frame as he walked away. I was almost forced to check out what he watched on Cyril’s back but his voice stopped me.

‘‘Can you beasts excuse us? I need a word with Alessia privately.’’

My heart skipped at his request, my gaze snagging with that of Alan and Lance as they both turned to me as if seeking my approval.

“In that case, take Adrian with you.’’ I simply instructed.

My chest heaved from the speedy currents in my heart. Thompson suddenly looked less annoyed and that I found really scary about the situation. He simmered with rage just minutes ago.

“What do you wanna talk about?’’

“It's been barely forty-eight hours since you returned, we didn't even get the chance to talk properly.” He began.

‘‘I'm all ears.’’ I simply stated.

I didn't expect Thompson to take steps closer towards me. Alarmed, I jolted backwards immediately with widened eyes. But once again, he surprised me by the look in his eyes.

“I…I'm sorry. I just didn't see it coming.’’ I cleared my throat uncomfortably, taking charge of my movements.

Thompson stepped up once again, covering the gap between us to take my wrist. Not softly, but not too harshly either.

“I don't know what you have going on in your head. But in whatever you do, you must remember that you're my wife. I don't care what anyone has to say against that, not even yourself. You remain my wife, and our son needs us. Both of us.’’

“Wh…what?’’ I was taken aback.

“You saw it right? You were gone for only a few days and his fate got decided. You wouldn't want to leave him again after that, would you?” He spelt out.

My breath seized in that splitting moment, a thousand scenarios running through my mind.

“Give it an intense thought, don't get carried away by the selfish Lycan. We have to go home. Both of us with Adrian...’’

“He needs me.’’ I cut in.

‘‘What?’’

‘‘Cyril. Aside the fact that we are mates…..’’

“Can you not mention it?’’ He interrupted.

Drawing in a deep breath, I continued. “There's a curse on the lycan kingdom. A curse on their male breeds. Apparently, I'm the only way to relieving the curse.’’

‘‘Wh…what are you… talking about?’’

Exactly what you think. As the Lycan king's mate, I'm expected to serve the course. It's my destiny….’’

“I don't understand a word of what you're blabbering about!’’ Thompson yelled.

“Well that's the problem. You never understand me and you neve care to try to understand. So can you just let me do my stuff without so much questions?’’

“No I can't.’’

‘‘And why not?’’

“Cause you're my fucking wife and I can't bare you being involved with another fucking man!’’ He spat eagerly.

‘‘Since when did you start caring about who I get involved with?’’ I threw back at him.

“Well since I realised you no longer think your fatty body to be an insecurity. Since your eyes stopped being focused on me and started lingering elsewhere!’’ He battered.

You never cared about me, Thompson.

“Well now I do. And I want you, Alessia.’’ He blurted out.

Words failed me for a long moment. Just our gazes burning emptily into each other's. No sparks. No butterflies. Nothing of that nature at all. I realised that minute that all I felt for this man was gone.

Swallowing nothing, I dropped my gaze from him. Anywhere else but at him.

“You should get going. It's pretty late.’’

As if he'd heard my voice, Alan bursted in just then. Thankfully, Thompson didn't try to react and quietly left with him.
………

A huge sigh left my lips, and I returned my phone into my coat after turning off the screen light.

“Alessia.’’ An ever familiar voice called behind me, echoing soundly in my head.
