IN THE SECRETS
Chapter 77
CYRIL’S POV
{Two days earlier…}
“Don't raid their houses. Don't trample their farms. And avoid the children.’’ I yelled repeatedly as the men trouped into the pack with their weapons and horses.
An inductive reminder that our raiding wasn't fueled by an intention to destroy the pack, but rather targeted at placing some pressure on the silly Alpha and anyone who might be trying to keep Alessia following his command.
I was conscious of the extent to which I should thrive without earning some resentment from Alessia. Razing the pack would be slightly too much, focusing on the warriors alone should do.
“You have to leave now.’’Alan appeared before me. “I'll go on with Lance.’’ He added, swatting his chin forward.
It wasn't a surprise seeing Lance waiting on a horse, equally fully armed.
“Do you both have to go in? One of you should remain here, that jerk might try to flee.’’ I called back.
“You leave that to us, we'll sort things ourselves. Just hurry along, you can't let any attack come to you ‘’ He responded with his arm already stretched out to the road.
“Don't make it seem so pathetic, I can still handle myself. Get your acts in place.!’’ I yelled.
This damn situation! I understood that they were only concerned about my latest condition but their actions made me feel weak.
Aloha, the kingdom witch, hadn't said I was dying any soon, or that my lycan beast couldn't protect me anymore. She only pronounced that my mysterious injury couldn't be healed and was slowly decaying.
The decay process had commenced and slowly drained my strength, but that doesn't make me any less active like Lance and Alan made it seem.
“I'm sorry.’’ He mumbled, with his gaze pinned to the ground.
Their whole act sulks!
I stormed into the car and drove back to the mansion. Not without stopping a couple of times to unleash my frustration on whatever came in handy.
I arrived in the monsoon about three hours later than should be required. Only for Alan to rush out to the pack as soon as I arrived.
‘‘The fuck you doing here?’’ I sprinted out in pure surprise.
“Where have you been, what route did you take? Are you okay?’’ He searched through my body.
“I'm doing fine! Cut the crappy act!’’ I spat irritatedly.
‘‘Now why are you back here?’’ I inquired after restoring decorum from him.
“We found…him. Alessia's kid.’’ He blurted out.
“What nonsense are you yapping about?’’
“He's in with Lance.” He gestured towards the door.
Shoving him aside, I took bold wide steps up the porch and through the door.
“My king.’’
Lance turned around to face me. But what caught my gaze was the little figure on a chair in front of him. He was dead familiar. I could recognise him even among a thousand children.
“We were worried.’’ Lance stated, rising from the table where the little boy sat looking so pathetic.
“Him….’’ I pointed, my tongue literally tied.
“We found him wandering the street. Alan managed to recognise him and we thought to bring him back.’’ Lance explained.
“Why was he out at such a critical time? Did you get any details from him yet?’’ I fisted my palms, attempting to grab a grip.
“I'm trying, but he won't speak.’’ He almost rolled his eyes, physically peeved.
I took slow soft steps to the spot, my eyes never leaving the kid who stared right back at me. I managed a smile which I was completely sure turned out as a smirk instead.
“Leave us.’’ I commanded Lance , taking his position instead.
Once the door went shut after him, I proceeded to speak, mustering all the softness I could.
‘‘Hey kid. What's your name?’’ I knew it. I simply forgot what it was.
“I want my mommy!’’ His lips parted to say, totally catching me off guard.
Didn't Lance say the boy had refused to say a word since they got back?
“Y-your mommy!’’
I was speechless, clueless on what to do or say. I'd never been really good with kids. I only managed to win their hearts with some bribes whenever there was a need to.
“Mom Annalise said she's at my school. They should go get her.’’ He pointed babily towards the door, and I needed no telling he meant Alan and Lance.
How smart a kid. But….
“Annalise said that?” I spat in disbelief, and almost banged my fists when the boy nodded.
That damn wrench! The fck was she playing at?
“Ask them to get to my school and bring my mommy.’’ His tiny squeaky voice again, his cheeks trembling crazily ever since words left his lips.
“Your mommy is not at your school.’’ I said.
“You haven't checked.’’ He insisted.
“It's dangerous outside and she can't be there.’’ I tried to convince him.
“She called mom Annalise. She said she was there, she was waiting for me.’’ Tears streamed down his cheeks, but what sight hurt the most was the manner he instantly rubbed against them with his little wrists.
“Fine. I'll ask them to check.’’ I adhered to his favour, picking out my phone to dial Alan.
“Get to the kid's school right now.’’
“What?’’ The clear disbelief in his voice was understandable.
‘‘Just go on, he thinks Alessia might be there.’’ I hushed.
‘‘Yes, my king.’’
I dropped the call to give the little pub a smile.
‘‘They are on to it, we'll find her soon huh?’’
He didn't need to respond, the slight relief on his face was enough to down in.
“Will you tell me your name now?’’ I asked slowly.
I sighed inwardly when he wouldn't say a word.
“How about dinner, have you had anything to eat yet?’’
He shook his head this time. Perfect!
“What will you like to have then, I'll get the maids to prepare it for you.’’
“I wanna see my mommy.’’ He mumbled out, much to my unexpectation.
“Oh! She-she'll be here soon.’’
Of course I knew Alessia wouldn't be here anytime soon. I just had to assure him for the meantime.
“I'll be back.’’ I stroked his hair slightly before walking out.
Down to the maid quarters. I ordered them to prepare a meal he wouldn't refuse and have it laced with sedatives. By daybreak, he should be in a better condition to accept Alessia's unavailability.
