Confrontation

Miranda's POV

I stepped out of the boardroom with my assistant tailing behind me, my heels clicking sharply against the polished marble floors. The cool air from the hallway brushed against my flushed cheeks, but the fire inside me remained ablaze. My grip on my Chanel bag tightened, my knuckles white with the effort to restrain the rage bubbling within.

"Ma'am, your car is ready," my assistant said cautiously, her voice trembling slightly. She knew better than to test my patience at a time like this.

I gave her a curt nod and strode towards the entrance, my red Tom Ford suit fitting me like a second skin, radiating power and authority. The moment I stepped outside, the chauffeur opened the door to my Rolls-Royce. Sliding into the leather seat, I exhaled deeply, forcing myself to calm down.

"Straight to Louie's Group," I commanded with a sharp edge in my tone.

The chauffeur nodded without a word, and the car purred to life. As we navigated through the bustling streets of the city, I leaned back, letting my mind run through the confrontation I was about to have with Jonathan. He thought he could delay payments and disrupt my plans? He was sorely mistaken.

By the time we arrived, I had meticulously planned every word. The guard at the gate recognized the car immediately, bowing in acknowledgment before waving us through. The grandeur of Louie's Group's headquarters didn't faze me. If anything, it fueled my determination to put Jonathan in his place.

As I stepped into the lobby, the employees paused, their heads bowing slightly in respect. I flashed them a polite, calculated smile, the kind that concealed the storm brewing beneath. My assistant quickened her pace to catch up with me as I made my way to the elevator.

"Excuse me," I called to one of the employees near the reception. "Where is Mr. Jonathan's office?"

The young man's eyes darted nervously before he pointed down the hallway. "Third door on the left, ma'am."

"Thank you," I said curtly, not bothering to wait for a response as I marched forward. My heels clicked against the floor with an unrelenting rhythm, each step a declaration of my resolve.

Arriving at the door, I paused for a fraction of a second, composing myself. Then, with a practiced grace, I pushed it open.

Jonathan sat at his desk, his head buried in a stack of papers. He glanced up, his expression shifting from confusion to a forced politeness as he recognized me.

"Miss Laila," he greeted, rising from his seat and extending a hand. "What an unexpected surprise. How can I assist the esteemed CEO of Emperor's Group?"

I ignored his outstretched hand, instead crossing my arms over my chest. "Mrs. Hamilton informed me that the payment your company owes mine hasn't been made." My tone was sharp, unyielding. "Care to explain why?"

His smile faltered, but he quickly recovered, gesturing for me to take a seat. "Please, Miss Laila, have a seat. There's no need for hostility."

"I'll stand," I replied coolly. "Your explanation, Mr. Jonathan?"

He exhaled heavily, his shoulders slumping ever so slightly. "We've been facing some… financial difficulties recently. If you could grant us a little more time-"

I cut him off with a sardonic laugh. "Financial difficulties? Interesting. Is that before or after you bought your mistress a new house?"

The color drained from his face, his composure cracking as his eyes darted around the room, searching for an escape. "I… I don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't play dumb with me," I said, taking a step closer. "I have enough evidence to make things very uncomfortable for you. Or should I call your wife and let her know about your extracurricular activities?"

His façade of confidence shattered completely. He stood abruptly, slamming his hands on the desk. "How dare you come into my office and threaten me!"

I leaned forward, my voice dropping to a dangerously low tone. "I don't make threats, Jonathan. I make promises. And right now, I'm promising you that if I don't have that payment by the end of the day, you'll regret it."

He sank back into his chair, his anger giving way to defeat. "Fine," he muttered, rubbing his temples. "You'll have your money."

I straightened, smoothing down the front of my blazer. "Good. While you're at it, I'll need the proof of Mrs. Hamilton and Miss Mara taking kickbacks."

His head shot up, his eyes wide with panic. "You… you want me to go against them? They'll come after me!"

I shrugged nonchalantly. "Better them than me, wouldn't you agree? After all, Mrs. Hamilton is barely holding on to her position as it is. Do you really want to align yourself with someone so precarious?"

Jonathan stared at me, his face a mix of disbelief and grudging respect. "You're ruthless," he muttered.

"I'm efficient," I corrected. "Now, will you get me what I need, or shall I consider this collaboration terminated?"

He hesitated for a moment before nodding reluctantly. "Fine. You'll have the money and the documents."

I smiled, the kind of smile that didn't reach my eyes. "Perfect. Pleasure doing business with you."

The game was far from over. And I always played to win.
