Chapter 158
Chapter 157
THIRD POV
Mario felt weird as he withdrew his eyes from the mess on the floor. He is dressed in a sky-blue shirt and black trousers, looking very elegant.
"Son," Adrian called as Mario comported himself, clearing his throat as he moved his gaze towards his father and Evelyn.
"Dad," Mario said as Evelyn lowered her gaze.
"I didn't know you were um... coming," Adrian said.
"Me neither. I need to talk to you about something. I will be in your office," Mario said, walking away before Adrian could say anything.
Adrian heaved a sigh as Evelyn moved to get down.
Adrian reached to help her down, but she got down on her own.
She made an attempt to leave, but he held her hand, making her look at him.
His eyes are on her.
She felt her heart racing and her legs still shaking thanks to the pleasure he just gave her.
It felt so good.
No doubt she could go again.
But no. She can't.
She can't come to terms with the fact that he slept with Dolores. Even though the baby is not his.
He actually slept with her.
Evelyn is finding it hard to believe that he did it for her safety.
"You haven't finished your breakfast," he said.
"And whose fault is that?" she asked.
He didn't respond but stared at her.
She released her hand from his hold and headed for the door.
Adrian stared at her as she walked. Evelyn didn't look back, but she picked up her panties and headed out of the kitchen.
She walked towards the living room but froze at the sight of Carlos seated in the living room.
He got on his feet the minute he locked eyes with Evelyn.
"Hey," he said.
"Hey," she said as she squeezed her panties in her hands. She averted his eyes from him as she took steps past the living room and towards the stairs.
Carlos stared at her as she walked up the stairs. He thought about things as he stared at her.
He never expected things to turn out this way.
Evelyn and the Don were the last people he expected to be involved with romantically.
It is also sickening to him.
"Carlos," Adrian's voice got Carlos' attention.
"Sir," Carlos said, standing firm.
"You came with Mario," Adrian said, walking towards his office.
"Yes, sir." Carlos said as he stared at Adrian. Adrian walked into the office and Carlos sat down on the sofa.
He let out a sigh, recalling that day he kissed Evelyn. She was very upset.
She never wanted him.
The same way, she never wanted Mario.
All the while, all she wanted was the Don.
Carlos still couldn't understand why. He has been trying to get his mind off it, but it is difficult.
He just has to keep trying.
Evelyn can never be his. He can't even try to get her.
She is already the Don's.
Carlos stared at his fingers as his heart clenched.
INSIDE THE OFFICE
Adrian is seated in his swivel chair and opposite his desk is Mario, seated in one of the seats.
Mario is focused on his phone, typing on his screen as Adrian stares at him.
"How is it going?" Adrian asked.
Mario let out a sigh.
"Pretty well. Ish." He said without looking at Adrian.
"How are you?" Adrian asked.
Mario looked at him.
Adrian awaited an answer.
"Oh, you really want to know?" Mario asked.
Adrian didn't respond.
"I didn't know you were that concerned about me. You have a girlfriend that makes you very happy," Mario said, smiling.
Adrian kept staring at him.
"The one you stole from me," Mario said, frowning.
Adrian lowered his gaze a bit and looked at his son.
"I should be concerned, Mario. You are my son."
Mario scoffed, looking away.
"And I love you," Adrian added.
"Cut the crap. That is not the reason I am here," Mario said.
Adrian stared at him.
"Evelyn never wanted me anyway. I was so into her that I didn't see the signs," Mario said.
Adrian lowered his gaze, feeling bad within.
"And I was also blind about the signals between you two. You know, I thought about it for a while and I realized that there were actually signals. Fucking signals, but I was so blind," Mario said, feeling his heart ache as he stared at his dad.
"I know how you feel, son. But....."
"I am returning your duties as the Don," Mario retorted.
Adrian furrowed her brows.
"I don't understand,"
"I don't want to be a Don. At least for now. I only saved your legacy, which, of course, will benefit me. But I am not yet ready for it. You have to get very old before I take over," Mario said.
Adrian stared at him.
"In the meantime, you have to take over. I still have a lot to learn," Mario said.
"Mario, I apologize for what happened. I didn't mean to hurt you. Don't hate me," Adrian said.
Mario scoffed. "Hate,"
Adrian stared at him.
"I wish I can. But I can't. I tried but I was of no use. Mostly because you are more than a father to me. You are someone I look up to. Like I said, you are like a god to me. But I guess earthly gods do sin too."
Adrian lowered his gaze.
"And um......I am in love with someone," Mario said.
Adrian looked at him.
Mario stared at him.
"Liliana," Adrian said.
"I have to go find her. I can't stop thinking about her," Mario said.
"Where do you think she might be? I can help you find her," Adrian said.
Mario shook his head. "No. I want to do it myself."
Adrian stared him.
"I don't want to scare her away like I did before," Mario said.
"It's fine. When are you coming back?" Adrian asked.
"After, I convinced her to come back with me," Mario said.
"I wish you the best of luck then," Adrian said.
Mario nodded.
"Fair enough," he said, getting on his feet. He made an attempt to leave but stopped in his track and looked at Adrian.
Adrian was looking at him.
"What are your plans for Evelyn?" Mario asked.
Adrian didn't respond but kept staring at him.
"Is she going to be my second stepmother?" Mario asked.
Adrian didn't respond.
Mario scoffed. "Very funny, this life, isn't it?"
Adrian kept staring at him.
"Well, I wish you two well," Mario said, walking towards the door.
"Mario," Adrian called.
Mario stopped on his track.
"Stay safe," Adrian said.
Mario didn't respond or look at Adrian but walked out of the office.
He took steps towards the living room but stopped in his track the minute he saw Evelyn descending the stairs in a different attire and her cat in her hands.
Mario stared at her as she approached.
Evelyn felt weird as she held his gaze. She got closer and stood a few steps away from him.
"Hey," Mario said.
"Hey," Evelyn said a bit nervously, feeling guilty.
"I see you are better now," he said.
Evelyn nodded, lowering her gaze.
"And you still have your cat with you," he said, staring at the cat.
She looked at him. "Listen, um, Mario, I...."
"No need for that," he retorted.
Her heart clenched a bit as she stared at him.
"You don't have to apologize. I am not any better either. I mean, I had a thing with Camilla while I was dating you. I guess we are even but.....I didn't think it would be my dad," he said.
"I am sorry," she said, lowering her gaze.
"It's okay. I hold nothing against you. I just need to get used to the fact that I am about to have a sibling and another step-mum," he said, making Evelyn feel weird as she thought about marrying Adrian.
"Take care of yourself, Evie. I have to go," he said, making her look at him.
He turned away and headed for the main entrance door.
"Let's go, Carlos," Mario said, and Carlos got on his feet, his eyes moving towards Evelyn momentarily before following Mario out of the Mansion.
Evelyn let out a breath as she stared at her cat.
She caressed its fur as she thought about what Mario said.
She doesn't know if she wants to marry Adrian.
She has a baby on the way and all, but it still doesn't mean she has to get married now.
She is twenty-one and still has school to complete.
"Hey," Adrian's voice got her attention.
One look at him and her heart races like they are already on their marks.
He took steps towards her, making her heart race faster.
He is so perfect.
He never ceases to be.
But is she ready for this?
His eyes roamed her face. They rested on her lips as always.
"What is going on in your head?" he asked, meeting her eyes.
"I can't marry you," she said.
He froze.
Evelyn's heart reacted as she stared at his flawless face.
"Why?" He asked.
"I am not ready. I am....younger than you and.....I am still in my first year in college," she said nervously.
He studied her face a bit, making her look away.
"Is that really your reason for it, or you can't forgive me for the thing with Dolores?" he asked.
She looked at him. "I am not ready, Adrian."
"Then I will wait for you till you are," he said, making her heart react.
She scoffed. "What do you mean you will wait? You are a very sophisticated man. Go find yourself a suitable woman out there. I can't marry you." She said, feeling her heart saying the opposite.
"There is no suitable woman out there other than you, Eve. Stop pushing me away."
She scoffed. "That's rich coming from the pusher himself," she said, looking away.
He moved closer to her.
She felt pressured instantly as she looked at him.
"I am not going to be with anyone else if it is not you, Eve."
She gulped slightly.
"You are not ready. I understand. So I am going to wait till you are ready. Even if it means for eternity, I am still going to fucking wait, baby. "
Her heart continues racing.
"You have my attention for life. I am never letting you go," he said.
She felt her heart fluttering as she continue staring at him.
"So take all the time in the world, little girl." He said, caressing her cheek.
She felt shivers running down her spine.
"I will be here till when you are ready to be completely mine," he said, staring at her for a while and walking past her.
Evelyn felt a void instantly, pursuing her lips instantly as her heart raced.
NEXT DAY.....
NEW YORK CITY...
LOUIS' DINER.....
The diner is filled with people seated and having their meal and drink. Some are at the counter and the finer girls dressed in uniforms are serving the customers.
Liliana walked out of the kitchen dressed in a different attire, which was a simple blue dress, and she had a tray of cookies in her hands. She handed it to a diner girl and was about to walk back into the kitchen when....
"Lily," a blonde diner girl called.
"Yeah?"
"Please stand in for me for a few minutes. I will be right back," the blonde diner girl said, walking past Liliana.
"Okay," Liliana said, walking closer to the counter. She leaned down and grabbed an apron. She was about to wear the apron.
"Can I get a cup of black coffee," a male voice said. She looked at the person momentarily.
"Coming right up...." She trailed off and froze.
"Add two extra sugar," the male voice said.
Liliana looked at the person and her heart raced.
"Hey, Lily,"
"Mario," she barely whispered.
