Chapter 80

Sophie opened her mouth at no time, as she had Dominique as her spokesperson.

"What did you think? That Alec would be alone for the rest of his life?" Even if Evangeline didn’t say anything, Dominique distilled his poison. "Quite the contrary! After searches and more searches, he finally found Sophie. The perfect woman for him!”

The last thing Evangeline wanted and needed was a fight with Dominique. She just looked at Alec and sighed.

"I’m leaving.”

"No, Evangeline... wait.”

Evangeline lifted the hem of the dress and literally ran away from those three. Alec took a deep breath and decided to solve those problems, before going after his great love.

"What the fuck are you doing here?”

"It’s my grandson’s birthday. I’d never miss it.”

"I’m not talking to you, Dominique." Alec’s hard, cold stare was landing on Sophie, who tried uselessly to hide behind Dominique. "I don’t care what you do or don’t do with your life.”

"Wow, son... what...”

"Answer me, Sophie. What the fuck are you doing here? I’m sure I was very clear last time.”

"It was." she finally says, taking a few steps forward. "So I traveled to find your mother and give you a peaceful time. I knew you just needed a little time to forgive me.”

"Forgive? Sophie, you had a naked man inside your wardrobe and he was covered only by your feather blanket. When we first met, what was the first thing I told you?”

"What was my price?”

Alec rolls her eyes. As much as Sophie had the perfect body, sculpted by the best plastic surgeon in New York, her brain was fucked. The woman was dumb as a door.

"I told you everything you should know about me and the only thing I asked for in return was your loyalty. I said I didn’t care how much you spent or where you were. As long as you stayed true to me.”

"And when was it that I wasn’t loyal to you?" Sophie’s thin, sweet voice made Alec roll her eyes endlessly. "I like you so much, honey...”

"No, you don’t. You like the money and all the luxury I can afford. Very different from the woman I love.”

Dominique felt more offended than Sophie when she heard that phrase. When Alec left the two women alone and hurried to go after Evangeline, the ex-Castello turned to the blonde and said:

"Don’t call him. Alec is an idiot. He must have suffered some malformation during pregnancy." Dom crosses his arms with Sophie’s, who looked at her nails and thought about what color she would paint them. "Let’s see which country we go to this time and you can catch whoever you want, without feeling guilty afterwards.”

As soon as she walked away from Alec and all that drama that had arisen, Evangeline searched for Allegra among all those unknown children. She found the little red hair in the corner of the garden, grabbing her legs.

"Allegra?" The girl directs her wet gaze to Evie. "What happened, dear?”

"Antony’s an idiot! I hate him.”

"Explain to me.”

"He said I should leave, because I wasn’t welcome here." Evangeline raises an eyebrow. That didn’t seem like the education Audrey would give. "Antony said I’m stealing all the attention that belongs to him. That Alec is his and doesn’t want to share.”

Evangeline smiles sideways and holds her daughter’s hands.

"It’s normal for him to feel that way, love. All attention was his for ten years. Alec being his father, doesn’t mean he’ll love one or the other less." Allegra lets out a sad sigh and hugs Evangeline. "How about we go home? We can watch a movie and cuddle.”

After a nod in response, Evangeline takes Allegra’s hand and leaves the garden. She hadn’t seen Audrey, so she thanked her for not having to explain why they were leaving early.

They were almost through the gate, when Alec’s voice was present.

"I don’t want to hear anything, Alec." Evangeline speaks louder, without stopping walking. "Especially in front of my daughter.”

Alec walks faster and stops in front of the two, making Evangeline roll her eyes with her insistence. He takes a few deep breaths, searching for the air that had been missing from that little race.

"Do you give us a few minutes?" he asks to Allegra, who quickly lets go of Evangeline’s hand and walks away a little. "Evangeline...”

"Please, Alec. You’ve moved on. It’s okay.”

"No! It’s not. Nothing is okay without you." Alec steps forward and she doesn’t move. "Sophie is not my wife. It was just a girlfriend who cheated on me and I broke up. As you can see, Dominique adopted and thinks I should forgive what happened. But I won’t. It is not she I want." he holds the hand of Evangeline, who remained quiet. "I don’t want to go back, where I was only half an equation. Without you, I’m completely lost, Evangeline. Do you realize that every kiss you give me completes me? I can’t imagine my life, without your touch, without your smell... without you. I’m sorry... come back to me.”

Evangeline held on to her immense desire to kiss Alec and hugged him tightly. With her eyes closed, she glued her lips to his ear and murmured:

"I’m not gonna kiss you in front of Allegra, so it’s not too much for her..., but I want to try again. I love you, Alec. With all my heart. I’ve been happier in this last hour, than in all these years away from you. I want you to promise me one thing...”

"Whatever you want.”

They wouldn’t let go. With each passing second, that embrace became tighter and more filled with love.

"Don’t hurt me anymore. I don’t think I can handle another disappointment from you.”

"I will not." he kisses her naked shoulder. "I promise.”

"Okay, then. Let’s start again.”
