Chapter 79
"Oh my God..." Evie murmurs, coming out of Alec’s arms. "That’s not how I imagined this conversation.”
"Funny... I was hoping we’d mess up the table one more time.”
Evangeline suppresses the laughter and hides her face in her hands. Alec approaches and takes her hands, making her look at him.
"I love you. Shall we start again?”
"Alec, there’s a lot open. Allegra and I have a life in London. You can’t think that just one kiss will make me drop everything.”
Alec held his face with his hands and pulled gently closer to him. Her lips met in a soft kiss, which gradually became more intense.
They gave in to sensation, their bodies approached as they kissed. Evangeline could feel her heart pounding in his chest as her hands ran down her back.
The kiss continued, seeming to last for an eternity as they got lost in the sensation. When they finally broke the kiss to breathe, their faces were still close, their eyes meeting in an emotional look of emotion.
"Does two solve?" Alec jokes, passing his nose in hers. "If you want I can give a few more...”
"Stop! That’s not why I came here. You’re taking my focus away.”
Alec smiles victorious. Kissing her and not getting slapped in response had already been the biggest victory of the day.
"I have something that should have been with you for years." she says, opening her purse and taking the key away. "Your father asked me to give you this." Alec frowns at the key extended to him. "I didn’t have much opportunity to do it, after all that has happened.”
"Wait... my dad? A key? From where?”
"He said it was from the safe in his room." A key spun in Alec’s mind. "And there was the will.”
"Geez... so was with you? You think I could never open that? I hired several people to break in, but it was impossible. Everyone said that only with the key." he takes the key of Evangeline. "This key.”
"Then go open.”
"I... do you mind going with me? Since... since my father died, that I...”
"Of course." Evie replies, without letting him finish the sentence. She knew how much it hurt in him, the loss of the father. "I’ll go with you.”
Alec walks through the house, going to the second floor, with Evangeline on his tail. She notices that he takes a few deep breaths before opening Blake’s bedroom door.
With the exception of the guys hired to open the safe and a specific maid, no one was going in that room. Alec wanted that environment to remain the same way Blake left it.
"It still smells like his cigar." Alec murmurs, closing his eyes to appreciate that odor. "Oh, my God!" he shakes his head. "Focus, Alec. The vault.”
Evangeline enters and closes the door, but remains nearby. She watches as Alec walks up to a wall and removes the immense painting there, revealing a safe. He takes a few deep breaths before he puts the key in and finally opens it.
In addition to a few gold bars and a few thousand dollars, there were jewels and two envelopes. In one it was written that it was to be opened in the front the whole family and the other was meant for Alec. The mobster grabbed the paper that contained his name and took a few steps back, until he fell sitting on Blake’s bed.
"I do not know if I can." he says and looks at Evangeline. "You can...”
"Of course.”
Evie approaches and picks up the envelope, then opens it. Blake’s letter was cursive and what was written there was not very long.
"Alec, if you’re reading this, it’s because I died." she starts, feeling a cake take over her throat.
*"The mafia is family, passed from generation to generation, but there comes a time that is enough. When my father passed me, I tried to stop. I tried to drop everything back there and do it differently, but as you can see, it was not possible.
*
But you’ll do it. Close it all. Every account. Every club. EVERYTHING! At the end of this letter, you will have the contact of a great friend, who is great at turning people into others. I want you to disappear. Take your sister, your nephew, if Dom is deserving, you can include her in this and obviously the redhead girl. I know you’re not going anywhere without her.
*Alec, don’t think about doing anything different. End it all and live a long, happy life. *
*Your father." *
"And there’s a number here." Evangeline concludes, looking at Alec. "He wants you to do what he always wanted, but can’t." she looks at the role and smiles melancholy. "Blake even included me in it. I could swear he hated me.”
"Could it work?”
"What?”
"I would be able to live away from it all? " he looks around, but everything was far beyond that room. " What would I do to live?”
"Alec, I’m sure your family has amassed enough money for you and anyone to be able to live comfortably to the end of their lives.”
Alec looks at her.
"Are you and Allegra coming with me?”
"To where?”
"No matter the place." he turns his whole body in her direction. "If it is for me to abandon all this and go away, you have to come with me. I don’t know if I can take another day without you in my life.”
Evangeline is fully aware that the time she lived next to Alec was the happiest of her life. Ten years separated them and even if she had tried to follow her life normally, she knew something was missing. He.
"Alec, I, uh...”
Before she was able to make a miserable charm, and then accept to disappear into the world with him, a laugh known by the two is present. And next to her, a female voice that only Alec knew.
"He will love the surprise." the voice says, causing curiosity in Evangeline. "Alec can not stand to stay so long away from my body.”
He closed his eyes tightly as Evangeline stood up and left the room. She stops in the middle of the corridor and faces the two women who were a few meters ahead of her. Dominique was the first to see Evangeline there. She took off her sunglasses and rolled her eyes.
"It is not possible." the sculptural body blonde who was next to her, turned and faced the redhead from top to bottom. "I thought we got rid of you years ago.”
"This is the...”
"Wait... you were in Blake’s room? Where is it..." Alec comes out of the room slowly and next to Evangeline. "Alec. In your father’s room? Besides disrespecting Blake’s memory, you disrespected your wife!”
"Your what?”
Evangeline looks at Alec, extremely confused. If he had a woman, why were you making plans with her? Why had he kissed her?
Dominique is ready to respond and takes a few steps forward.
"He didn’t tell you?" She had a smile on her side and mocked. "That monument over there, that’s Sophie. Alec’s wife.”
