Chapter 125

Chapter 125
“I am going to eat mine later. I already ate not too long ago; I used the in-home gym and got hungry. Enjoy your lunchtime. I got everything handled. If you have anything else you need to do, no school means I don’t have to leave early, and I can take care of the rest of the day. You have been working for months straight and only take time off when the twins need something. You need to go put your feet up and let the twins play in the library while you write. You haven’t even started that book you wanted; now is the perfect time. You should go back to just working lunches during the summer. We hired two more people than we needed. Kane, you should schedule them for more hours, so Liv can work on her book and be with the twins more.” Kendra responds while serving the salad.
She is right; I have been going non-stop; I should relax and let the staff I trained handle everything. It would be safer at the house where Link is more comfortable, instead of my loud kitchen. “Okay, I will let you deal with it, and we will look at the schedule so they can cover the time I am not around. I am sure they would love the hours to pay for school.” I tell them.
“That’s a good idea, Kendra. Liv needs to rest more; these two will be running around in no time. I will....” Kane starts to say, but he is interrupted.
“Da... Da...” Xaviar yells while trying to reach the spoon Kane is holding. I guess he forgot to give him another bite.
“Oh, I am sorry, buddy,” Kane says, giving him another bite.
“You can’t get distracted, Kane; the twins are hungry.” Link says with a serious voice, while not looking at anyone other than Sasha, as he gives her another bit.
“You are right, we will talk about this in a bit, Kendra. Xaviar is not patient at all. I love you, sis. Thanks for bringing our plates out.” Kane tells her and then gets back to feeding our son.
“Thank you, Kendra. I will talk to you tonight about this.” I tell her with a huge smile on my face because I think she is going to make a great partner for us when she is ready. She doesn’t know we want her to join the B&B that way, but I think it will be good for her.
“Yeah, I will come by tonight after my shift. Enjoy your food.” Kendra says with a bright smile and rushes off to the kitchen so she can prepare the orders that came in while she was out here.
I got back to eating because, if I am honest, I forgot to eat breakfast today. I meant to, and I even made myself a plate, but the twins are teething, and it is making them cranky. I look up and see Kane looking at me like he knows I forgot to eat today, and I just shrug my shoulders because what else can I do? I ate an breakfast bar after I remembered. I made the twins some fruit Popsicles in these mesh things with handles I found online that are for babies to eat things out of, but they can only get small bites. I don’t know what they are called, but they are a lifesaver right now.
Kane breaks me out of my thoughts by squeezing my thigh, and I look up. “You are thinking pretty hard over there.”
“Oh, I was thinking we should get more of those things that I make the kids Popsicles in. What do you think? They don’t go bad in the freezer, so having some extras around isn’t a bad thing.” I tell him with a smile because there is nothing wrong, I am truly happy.
“I will add them to the order. I think having extras is a good idea; you won’t have to make them as often if you have other things to do. I see they kept you busy this morning. You don’t normally put that much food on your plate.” Kane comments while pointing at my plate. I see the twins are done eating and are now playing with a couple of toys. I must have been zoned out for a while.
“Yeah, they were super fussy this morning. I made a plate, but by the time I remembered, I still needed to eat it wasn’t good anymore. I ate a breakfast bar to hold me over until now. I started keeping some in the pantry just to be safe. When Link came in around 10 AM, they were already feeling better from the Tylenol and the Popsicles.” I say to him before taking another bite.
“Well, I will help you and the twins back to the house so you can all relax after this. You need to focus on yourself more; all you do is run after everyone. Now it is time to slow down and use extra help while we have it. I will be home early tonight, my dad helped me catch up while they were here. He said he is letting the people who are supposed to run his company do it while he relaxes more. They want to spend time with their grandbabies as much as they can.” Kane tells me, and that makes me smile. Long nights have been a thing lately, and it was starting to mess with us.
“That's good, I have missed you so much lately. We need time together. Your mom sent me a message telling me all of that, too. She said they didn’t want to intrude. I told her she wasn’t intruding; she was spending time with family. Another letter from my mother slipped through. She called me every name she could think of and told me she would have my money at all costs. It was postmarked in two towns over. You might want to send people to look and see if we have anyone who is acting strange. It never should have made it to my mail pile. Someone is helping her. I think my dad is following a lead, not having a meeting. He will need help if that is what he is doing. He is stubborn, but I don’t think he would lie to you. I think he feels like he needs to do this to make up for not being around before. I tried to tell him it wasn’t his fault, but he would not listen to me. Maybe he will listen to your dad. The letter is at home. I put it in the office.” I whispered the last bit because I honestly have no idea who would help her.
