Chapter 218: I Don't Want To Die
Callan
I sat down on the chair, taking a deep breath. The party was still going crazy outside and these people sure knew how to celebrate. I took a sip of my whiskey, looking around the room I had been in. I usually stayed in this room whenever I visited, which used to be a lot. The room was dark, as it has always been and there were a few abstract painting on the wall which had not been there before. Once glancing at the signature in the corner and I knew Sophie had made them. I took a sip of my drink again, the music from downstairs was faint here and I wasn't fond of crowds but this one had been a delight to watch.
Adriano had made some stuff which had people licking their fingers but these people had bought sweets and I knew I was going to eat a lot the second they were gone. I grabbed the tub of ice cream from the nightstand table and removed the lid. I dug the spoon into the mint ice cream and just then there was a knock on the door. I looked at Zara and she blinked at me.
“Sophie said not to let you eat ice cream.” She said.
“Would one hundred make you temporarily blind?” I said and there was a pause.
“Make it two hundred, it might work.”
I smirked, reaching for my wallet. I took the money out and she walked inside and took it from me, putting it in a small fancy bag she had. She looked at the ice cream and made a face.
“Mint is bad. You have no taste or your taste buds are dead.” She said, folding her arms against her chest.
One of Sophie’s cats entered the room, followed by her sisters and they jumped on the bed.
“Which one do you like?” I asked her.
“Cookie dough.” Zara replied.
“Isn’t that the basics?” she gasped, offended and I chuckled.
“It is not basic.”
“Sure,” I muttered and she huffed..
“You are mean.”
“Aren't you the one who said my taste buds are dead?”
“Well, I'm just informing you.”
“Thanks for informing me, Miss Romero.” I took a bite of the ice cream.
“Does anyone know you are here? I don't want Jessica to freak out.”
“Sophy knows and she will tell Jessica.”
She climbed on the bed, sitting beside me and she looked at my phone.
“Don't ask me…”
“Do you have games?” She grinned.
“No,” I said.
“I don't.” One of the cats curled on my lap, purring slowly.
“Then you are bored too. But why does my sister love you then?”
“Jessica doesn't love me.”
“Oh,” she frowned.
“She likes you?”
“I sure hope so.” I muttered. Fuck, why was I talking to seven-year old girl? She hummed.
“Do you love her?” she asked again.
“Probably,”
“That is not a good answer, Mr. Santoro.”
“Love is not something which comes naturally to me, Miss Romero.”
She shook her head with mock disappointment.
“You are going to lose her if you don't love her.”
“I didn't say that I don't love her, I said that I probably do.”
“Okay, then give me a percentage.”
“Do you even know what that is?” I asked, wondering if a girl at her age knows much about love.
“I know everything, tell me.”
“Eight percent.” I replied, taking another bite of the ice cream.
“That is good.”
“Do you approve?” I asked.
Fuck, what is wrong with me, asking a little permission?
“No, you eat mint.” She muttered.
“If I don't eat mint, would you approve?” She made a thinking face.
“What is your favorite Disney princess?” She asked.
“I don't watch Disney movies, child.”
“Okay, I approve. I hate them anyway.” I chuckled.
“Why?”
“I don't know, I don't like love.” She replied.
“But you want me to love Jessica?”
“She deserves it, she is nice but don't take her away from me.” She fiddled with her clothes.
“She is awesome, she gets sad when she is away from me and Nova.”
“I know,” I whispered.
“But you still took her away.”
“Who told you that?”
“I am seven, not stupid.” She huffed.
“You and your brother came and when you left, Jessica was gone and everyone was weird about it.” I hummed.
“I was keeping her safe.”
“From who?” She asked.
“From bad man,”
“Is the bad man gone now?”
“He will be gone soon.”
She got off the bed, landing swiftly on the ground.
“We should return to the party.” She told me.
“You go, I will be right there.” She nodded and left the room, followed by the cats.
I ate the ice cream, for a seven-year old, she was terribly smart. It ran in the blood, it seemed. Sophie entered the room.
“I will end you.” She said, Zara peeked inside the room and gave me a grin.
“Thanks for the money.” She muttered. That little shit.
______________
Jessica POV
Nova looked at me and then at the two men sitting on either side of me. Sophie had set up a table in the backyard beside something called the maze. This was supposed to be a pleasant breakfast but I knew for a fact that Nova was going to make sure it was anything but pleasant. Sophie was eating her, too lost to notice anything and Adriano was too busy feeding her. Luciano was lost in his book, Angelo was occupied with whatever file he was reading.
Troye looked between Nova, Callan and Logan as if ready for the fight and then he sipped his tea. Nova sipped her tea as well.
“How many girls have you kidnapped?” She asked.
“None,” Callan replied, sipping his coffee.
“Aah, so Jessica is a unicorn?”
“I like unicorns.” Sophie pipped in.
“I painted one once with oil.” She had finally noticed the tension.
“Would you like to see it?”
“It is quite remarkable.” Luciano said and kissed Sophie’s face when she grinned at him.
“I am sure it is.” Nova said sincerely and then turned back to Callan and Logan.
“Is Chase gone?” She asked again.
“No, but he is not a problem anymore.” Logan replied this time, cutting a piece of pancake.
“Eat, Jessica.”
“How is it not a problem anymore?”
“I failed to understand how that is something you need to know.” Callan said, pouring me some juice.
“I heard you failed in school but I am not asking about it, am I?”
“You failed,” she flinched.
“Well, the teacher hates me.”
“No, that is the old one.” She huffed at my words.
“I tried,” she replied and I watched her.
“You can't fail, Nova. You have to at least complete high school.”
“You know many awesome people dropped out of high school to pursue their career.”
“If you drop out, what career will you pursue?” I asked.
“I don't know.” She muttered.
“I will get my grades back up, don't worry.” I hummed.
“What subject, though?” She flinched.
“I don't want to die.” I raised my eyebrows.
“What subject, Nova?”
“H..history,” she muttered and put my juice down.
“You are a disgrace.”
