CHAPTER 23. Let the Carnage begin

"You don't have to worry about that, all our men are únder surveillance" amaya said, trying to console and comfort her. "Yeah under surveillance of another man, what if those men are not to be trusted," Kitara asked.

You don't have to worry about that, all the surveillance is handpicked by my mother" Amaya said with a proud smile on her face, she is always proud to boast about her mother's competency and rulership power.

Amaya's words seemed to have somewhat reassured Kitara, but still, she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that came with the thought of her plans being uncovered. "I hope you're right," Kitara said with a sigh, "I don't want anything to go wrong."

Amaya placed a comforting hand on her friend's shoulder, "Trust me, my mother knows what she's doing. She's been ruling this kingdom for years and has never made a mistake. Her surveillance system is one of the best in the world. You have nothing to worry about."

Kitara nodded, feeling slightly relieved at Amaya's words. She knew that Amaya's mother was highly respected by her people, and her rule was known to be just and fair. However, the stakes were too high for her to be complacent.

"But what if something does go wrong?" Kitara asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "What if they find out about our plan?"

Amaya's expression turned serious as she thought about Kitara's question. "If something does go wrong, we'll have to be prepared to face the consequences," she said. "But we can't let fear hold us back. We've come too far to give up now."

Kitara nodded, taking a deep breath to calm her nerves. "You're right. We can't let fear control us. We have to be brave and face whatever comes our way."

'Okay" Kitara said.

"I hope you have found your faith now, this is where we prepare yourself for tomorrow's assignment and sleep well" Amaya said as she turned away from her and walked into the shadows. As Amaya disappeared into the shadows, Kitara couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew that Amaya was only trying to help, but the thought of tomorrow's assignment made her anxious. She had never done anything like this before, and the weight of the responsibility was starting to take its toll on her.

As she made her way back to her quarters, Kitara tried to calm herself down. She took a deep breath and tried to focus on the present moment. She reminded herself that she had made it this far, and she was capable of completing the task at hand.

When she finally arrived at her quarters, Kitara immediately went to work. She started to gather all of the supplies she would need for tomorrow's mission. She checked and double-checked her equipment, making sure that everything was in working order.

As she worked, her mind kept drifting back to the conversation she had with Amaya. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She knew that Amaya was keeping secrets from her, and it made her feel uneasy.

After hours of preparation, Kitara finally collapsed onto her bed, exhausted. She tried to get some sleep, but her mind was racing. She kept thinking about the assignment and what might happen if something went wrong.

Suddenly, there was a knock at her door. Kitara sat up, startled. She wasn't expecting anyone. She cautiously made her way to the door and peered through the peephole. It was Amaya.

Kitara hesitated for a moment before opening the door. Amaya stepped inside and closed the door behind her.

"I'm sorry to bother you so late," Amaya said, "but I just wanted to check in on you. How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay," Kitara said, trying to sound confident. "Just a little nervous about tomorrow."

Amaya nodded sympathetically. "I understand. But I want you to know that I have faith in you. You're going to do great."

Kitara smiled weakly, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. She decided to confront Amaya.

"Can I ask you something?" Kitara said, her voice trembling slightly.

"Of course," Amaya said, her expression unreadable.

"Why are you keeping secrets from me? I can tell that there's something you're not telling me."

Amaya sighed. "I wish I could tell you everything, Kitara. But there are some things that you're better off not knowing."

Kitara felt a knot forming in her stomach. She didn't like the sound of that.

"Is it about tomorrow's mission?" Kitara asked.

Amaya hesitated before nodding. "Yes, it is. But I promise you, everything will be fine. Just trust me."

Kitara wanted to believe her, but the doubt lingered in her mind. She knew that she had to be careful tomorrow. She couldn't afford to let her guard down.

As Amaya got up to leave, Kitara couldn't help but feel a sense of dread. She knew that tomorrow was going to be a difficult day. She just hoped that she was ready for it, and that she is not with the enemy while she thinks she is with her allies.

She drifted into her usual dream world, but this time her family was smiling weakly at her before their expression changed to that of sadness. Kitara woke up with mixed feelings, sad and happy. She was happy she made a great step in her mission and that the demise soul of her family recognised that and sad to the fact that she is yet to find out who is behind her family's death, but one thing is sure. Someone in this wall knows something about her mothers death and that person will be burying that fact up from the public and she is here to dig it up.

She changed into the spare kitchen worker dress given to her the previous day and made her way into the king's quarter with a determined mind only bent on one thing; getting the revenge of her family.
