Chapter 59 Chapter 58
Evelyn.
It nuzzled me again, licking my face and a chuckle broke out of my lips.
"Goodbye and I hope that the next time I see you, it's in your human form," I whispered. It growled and I stepped away from it. The wolf guided me back to the edge of the forest, its presence a comforting presence by my side. With a final glance, it disappeared into the depths of the forest, leaving me with a mix of emotions. Gratitude, curiosity, and a lingering sense of longing.
I sneaked back into the palace, the early morning hours still cloaked in silence. As I made my way to my chambers, my heart felt a lot lighter. The Moon Goddess festival was coming soon, and it felt like a big moment where important choices would be made.
In the upcoming gathering filled with happiness and celebrations, I knew what I had to do. I was determined to keep the promise I made to myself, even if it meant executing my dark mission under the huge celebration.
Alpha King Keiran.
With the sun's first rays spreading accross the sky, emerged from the dense forest, my body still pulsating with the remnants of my wolf form. The transformation back to my human self was always a jarring experience, especially now that it was becoming increasingly hard to control the beast in me. As I stepped onto the familiar path that led to the palace, my mind was consumed with thoughts of Evelyn.
Even in my wolf form, I couldn't escape her presence. Xavier, my wolf had become enamored by her, his senses heightened whenever she was near. And I, the Alpha King, found myself unable to resist the pull she had on me. It was a dangerous game we played, a secret relationship that I, for the life of me didn't understand why it was going on in the first place.
Especially when I saw her in her wolf form last night her sleek silver fur shimmering under the moonlight. She was a vision of grace and power, a reminder that she was still princess in her and a mighty one at that.
I couldn't help but be captivated by her beauty. Her eyes, a mesmerizing shade of amber, gazing intently at me. She was much bigger than most female wolves I've seen, even bigger than her sister, my late mate and Luna. I couldn't tear my gaze away from her. In her wolf form, she was majestic, a force of nature that demanded respect. The urge to claim her as mine was getting worse everyday but it would be wrong in every sense. She was a slave, branded as property, yet her spirit remained unbroken.
I tried to push of thoughts of her aside, walking back to my study to prepare for the day. The moon goddess goddess festival would begin tonight and last for three nights, I didn't have time to think about her. Once the moon goddess festival ends, I'm revealing myself to her, ending this secret relationship once for and all. It wasn't doing the both of us any good and the longer it lasts, the worse it becomes. There's little I can do but accept the strange feelings I have when I'm around her since there's no way I can deny it any longer.
I arrived at my study and immediately set to work, needing to touch up on some last minute preparations since the moon goddess festival was just tomorrow night. A knock came in the door and after giving approval for the person to enter, it opened and Duke Ethan walked in. He bowed on entry and I beckoned for him to come closer.
"All necessary security protocols are in place in preparation of the moon goddess festival and more soldiers have been deployed to guard the kingdom's borders and ensure total security." He announced, his voice grim.
I spared him a glance, focusing my attention on be scroll before me. "That's good but it's not good enough. You are to remain in charge of everything for now. I don't want surprises." I tell him.
"Of course, I will join as well to overlook all of the affairs concerning security." He answered, nodding his head.
"Good, you're dismissed." I muttered and he bowed and walked out, leaving me alone once again. Being an Alpha king with no luna or queen, I am bound to be viewed as vulnerable by the other greedy Alpha king's and my Kingdom targeted. I can't let that happen, I won't let history repeat itself with me. I closed my eyes against the horrible memories that threatened to overwhelm me, taking a deep breath and focusing on the task at hand. Now that everything is in place, all I have to do is wait for the Moon goddess festival.

The night of the festival had arrived. The people of our kingdom were dressed in their finest attire, anticipation hung in the air like a tangible force.
I stood before the full length mirror in my chambers, quietly putting on my ceremonial wear, symbols of authority interwoven in the intricate embroidery, my mind elsewhere.
A knock came on the door and after a while of hesitating, I murmured for whoever was behind it to come in. Morticia approached, her presence expected yet unwelcome. She was already dressed in her finest apparel, her raven-black hair already braided and adorned in sparkling jewelry.
"Your majesty." She greeted, bowing slightly. I acknowledged her presence with a nod, my attention still on the mirror before me. Taking it as a cue, she walked towards me, helping me with the last of the buttons while I watched her, a million thoughts swirling in my head.
"This anticipated day is already here, your majesty and I can't be any happier. Are you also happy as well, your majesty?" She asked, looking up at me with a small smile on my face. I shrugged, glancing out the window as I watched the pale moonlight stream in, the cheers and celebration not far behind.
"I guess..." I murmured. She nodded, finishing with the buttons and stepping away. She handed me my cloak and I put it on almost immediately.
"Would you like for me to walk with you tonight?" She suggested, her voice hopeful. "Seeing as you have no queen to walk by your side. It would be an honor to accompany the Alpha King to the presence of the people." She added, bowing afterwards.
I shook my head, walking away from her to my table. "That won't be necessary. I am fine on my own. Go to the arena and wait for me there." I ordered coldly. This night held no place for anyone but me. As the moon goddess's light filtered into the palace, I knew the time had come. She seemed disappointed by my blunt refusal but agreed anyway. Bowing slightly, she exited my chambers, leaving me alone once more.
