Chapter 57 Chapter 56
Evelyn.
The next morning, just before he woke up, I slipped from his bed and dressed in the dimly lit room, leaving him sleeping, a sense of disorientation creeping over me. I passed by Morticia in the hallway, her eyes bore into mine with a venomous glare. Her envy radiated off her like a palpable aura, and her eyes bore into mine, filled with malice. A chill ran down my spine, and I couldn't shake the feeling that she knew something, but I pushed those thoughts aside, not letting her jealousy deterr me in the least.
As I reached my crib, I took a deep breath, trying to shove aside the emotions and feelings that the Alpha King had stirred within me. I had a duty to fulfill, a plan to execute. The Moon Goddess festival would be the perfect opportunity to strike, to eliminate the Alpha King and bring justice to myself and my sister.
Yet, as I thought about it, his face haunted my thoughts. The vulnerability I had witnessed, the connection we had shared, it all left me questioning everything. Could I really go through with my plan? Could I betray the man who had shown me a side of himself that no one else had seen?
The answers eluded me throughout the day, and I spent the coming days in restlessness, the future filled with shadow and uncertainty.
The sun shone brightly overhead, casting a warm golden glow over the bustling streets of the pack territory. The Moon Goddess festival was just a few days away, and the air was filled with a palpable sense of excitement and happiness. Everywhere I looked, there were decorations adorning the buildings, vendors selling colorful trinkets, and people laughing and chatting animatedly. It was a stark contrast to the doubts and fears that had been plaguing me in recent weeks.
I had managed to accomplish something remarkable amidst the chaos and secrecy that had consumed my days. Despite the challenges and the constant need to be cautious, I had successfully crafted the blade. The silver and orichalum blade that had been smelted in the potent cocoa pods ashes and liquid. It was a weapon of immense power, one that could potentially change the course of our kingdom's destiny. Holding it in my hands, I felt a surge of pride and satisfaction. All those sleepless nights and stolen moments had been worth it.
Carefully, I wrapped the blade in a soft cloth and secured it in a hidden compartment within my crib. It was essential to keep it safe and away from prying eyes. The blade represented not only my determination but also the hope that I could avenge those I cared about and bring justice to my sister's death. It was a secret I carried with me, a burden and a source of strength.
As I made my way through the bustling corridors, I spotted Amaris waiting for me by the palace courtyard. She was dressed in a vibrant gown, her eyes sparkling with excitement. I couldn't help but smile at her infectious enthusiasm. Today was a day of celebration, and we were determined to make the most of it.
"Ready for the festival, Evelyn?" Amaris asked, her voice filled with anticipation.
"Ready as I'll ever be." I replied, my heart fluttering with a mix of emotions. We chuckled, immediately going to do our work. The festival held a special significance for both of us. For Amaris, it was the opportunity to finally give Duke Ethan her answer, to reveal her true feelings. I had been there for her throughout her journey, offering support and encouragement. Deep down, I hoped that she would find the happiness she deserved.
Though I couldn't say the same for myself, a part of me couldn't help but wonder about my own intentions for the Alpha King. I had kept my feelings hidden, buried beneath layers of duty and loyalty. The connection we had shared, the vulnerability I had glimpsed in him, had left me questioning everything. Could I truly go through with my plan to eliminate him? Could I betray the man who had shown me a side of himself that no one else had seen? Memories of the night we had filled my mind and I shuddered, rubbing my arms. It was the last time he had summoned and that painful detachment was back in full force.
I sighed, unable to have an answer for that. Pushing such thoughts to the back of my mind, I focused on the on the festival on ground. There were still so many things to do as the festival would be taking place at night and be lasting three nights, during the full moon and it was important to get so many things in place for the event. Amaris and I got busy with the preparations and the only time we had for break was dinner time, when we were retiring to bed.
As we ate, we discussed, the topic of our conversations being mostly about the Moon goddess festival. Amaris glanced at me on a whim, her eyes filled with concern as she stared at me. Taken aback by the sudden expression on her face.
"What is it?" I asked as I put in a spoonful of broth into my mouth, chewing it gently.
"Nothing. I'm just hoping a miracle would happen during the moon goddess festival, especially for you. So you stop living like this. It really doesn't suit you."Amaris whispered, her voice filled with a mix of hope and uncertainty.
I nodded, staring at my hands. She was right. "Yeah, I hope a miracle would happen as well." I said, silently sharing her sentiment. But deep down, I knew that miracles were rare, and sometimes we had to create our own destiny. She held my hands, giving me a gentle squeeze, and I turned to her, smiling softly.
We exchanged hopeful smiles, leaving our unspoken intentions shrouded in the night. The Moon Goddess festival was fast approaching, and it held the promise of both happiness and darkness. We parted ways, ending the day on a hopeful note. As I watched Amaris walking away, her silhouette bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, I couldn't help but hope that the festival would bring her the miracle she longed for.
But my own intentions remained concealed, locked away with the blade under my bed. With the Moon Goddess festival drawing closer, my heart was heavy with the weight of my hidden plan.
