Chapter 117 Change 116
Evelyn.
I opened my mouth, stuttering as I tried to speak but now words would come out of it so I slammed it shut. I sat on the floor, balling my hands into fists, my eyes locked onto Callahan, refusing to show any sign of fear despite the icy grip of dread that coiled within me. Callahan, the usurper of the throne, stared at me with an unsettling mix of curiosity and malice. His words slithered through the air like venom, dripping with disdain.
"How's this one to you, Kieran?" Callahan sneered, his voice mocking as he gestured towards me. "Another pawn in your game? Or perhaps something more?"
Kieran, imprisoned and shackled, met his half-brother's gaze with silent stoicism. "She's nothing," he spat out, the words heavy with both bitterness and a hint of protectiveness that he couldn't quite conceal.
Callahan, undeterred, circled me like a predator assessing its prey. I curled away in and heard him sneer above me. His fingers grazed my shoulder, tearing away the fabric and exposing the mark of the Alpha King imprinted on my skin. I gasped, my hands hurriedly moving to cover my naked shoulders but he had already seen what he wanted to see. As the fabric fell away, revealing the claim that Kieran had placed on me, Callahan's reaction was unexpected. He burst into incredulous laughter, a sound that chilled the air around us.
"What's this, Kieran?" Callahan mocked, holding back laughter as he faced his imprisoned brother. "You, the mighty Alpha King, mated with this one? Oh, the irony! I never thought I'd see the day when you'd stoop so low."
Kieran's jaw tightened, but he maintained his stony silence. The chains that bound him rattled with the suppressed fury that seethed beneath his calm exterior. Callahan, however, seemed to revel in the revelation, taunting Kieran further.
"You're always chasing after love, aren't you?" Callahan mused, his tone both mocking and contemplative. "Well, brother, that love will be your downfall. You were raised to be ruthless, but here you are, tangled in emotions you can't control."
Kieran's eyes, though filled with turmoil, betrayed no response. Callahan continued his cruel dance, using words as weapons to pierce through Kieran's defenses. "I'm here to take over, Kieran. The throne, the kingdom, and everything you hold dear. Your love will be the chain that binds you, and I'll gladly be the one to tighten it."
With a swift motion, Callahan seized me, his grip firm and unyielding. I could feel the cold steel of his fingers against my skin as he dangled me like a hostage in front of Kieran. His eyes, predatory and triumphant, locked onto Kieran's gaze.
"Reject her, Kieran," Callahan demanded, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade. "Reject her now, and maybe, just maybe, I'll spare her life. What say you, Alpha King?"
The air in the room grew heavy with the weight of the ultimatum. Kieran's eyes, torn between defiance and concern for my safety, held a storm of conflicting emotions. I felt the grip of Callahan's fingers tighten around me, the pressure a silent threat that echoed the perilous choice Kieran was faced with. Tears sprang into my eyes but I held kieran's gaze imploringly, willing him not to go ahead with it.
I'm here, my eyes locked with Kieran's, as the room hung in suspense. The cruel game unfolding before us, each heartbeat echoed the gravity of Kieran's decision. The Alpha King, cornered and bound, faced a choice that tore at the very fabric of his being.
"Reject her, Kieran," Callahan's demand sliced through the charged atmosphere, his words a sinister melody. "Or watch her suffer the consequences of your foolish affections."
Kieran's gaze bore into mine, a storm of emotions churning within his eyes. I could sense the internal struggle, the conflict between love and duty, and my heart wrenched at the sight of his torment. Callahan, reveling in the power he held over us, maintained his hold on me, a cruel smile playing on his lips.
I wanted to speak, to scream defiance or beg Kieran to resist, but the fear of worsening the situation paralyzed my vocal cords. Kieran's silence stretched, a palpable tension that hung in the air, thick with unspoken words and the weight of an impending choice.
Callahan's patience wore thin, his grip on me tightening further. "Well, Alpha King? What will it be?" he sneered, the anticipation of our fate dancing in his eyes.
Kieran's voice finally cut through the silence, a low and strained growl. "No. Let. Her. Go." He seethed, baring his sharpened jaws at callahan as he strained against the chains once more.
The defiance in that simple echoed through the room, a declaration of unwavering commitment. Callahan's triumphant facade faltered for a moment, replaced by a flicker of anger. He tightened his hold on me, his fingers digging into my skin. "You'll regret this, Kieran," he hissed. He motioned to the soldiers around kieran's cage and in a swift motion, they unsheathed their daggers and plunged it into Kieran's flesh, more blood spilling from his battered body and his screams of pain breaking me into pieces.
I screamed as well, tears pouring from my eyes kifke rain as I tried to get away from Callahan's ever tightening grip till I was suffocating and unable to draw air into my lungs. Yet, in the face of impending doom, Kieran's eyes never wavered. The resolve etched on his face spoke of a determination to protect, even at the cost of his own suffering. It was a choice made not out of weakness but out of strength, a strength that love had ignited within him.
As the room descended into a heavy silence, Callahan, defeated in this particular battle, reluctantly released his grip on me. I stumbled back, free from his clutches but still ensnared in the larger web of uncertainty that surrounded us. Kieran's eyes never left mine, a silent reassurance that, even in the face of impending darkness, our connection endured.
Callahan, scowling with resentment, retreated, his parting words hanging in the air like a lingering threat. "Your love will be the end of you, Kieran. Remember that. If you won't reject her, maybe I'll make her reject you instead." He stated and I snapped my head up to look at him, stunned by his words. What did he mean by that?!
I watched in horror as they released Kieran from his cage, one of the soldiers pulling up his head with his hair as they settled a silver-plated dagger against his neck, the sharp edges already cutting into skin and a thin trail of blood seeping out. Kieran growled, baring his teeth at whoever came close but he couldn't move from the spot where he was. Unable to scream, I let my mouth fall open, my heart feeling like it's been squeezed out of my chest.
"Look at me, pretty lady. Here is your former Alpha king, on his way to his death. And only you have the power to stop it. All you have to do is reject him. What is your choice?"
