Chapter 116 Chapter 115
Evelyn.
"He stays, He's my prisoner now. I can do whatever I want with him" Callahan declared, his voice dripping with malice. "Your mighty Alpha King is nothing but a weakling now."
A surge of defiance propelled me forward, my fists clenched in futile resistance. A few soldiers in the palace charged towards Callahan but they immediately met their end, proving once and for all his much of a maniac he was and hoe he wouldn't hesitate to end everyone's life as he so pleased. Still, I tried to break Kieran free from his hold. Yet, my attempts to break Kieran free were met with a ruthless display of Callahan's power. More lives were sacrificed as he unleashed chaos upon the kingdom, each life lost a devastating blow that resonated with the tolling of doom.
"How..." Kieran's voice echoed through the chaos, his eyes locked onto Callahan.."How did you penetrate our defenses?" Kieran demanded, his voice strained with disbelief. My heart sank as I realized who he might be talking about.
Callahan chuckled, the sound cutting through the cacophony of destruction. "I had help," he sneered, relishing the revelation. "Help from someone you never expected."
"From who?" Kieran roared, straining against his shackles once more in an attempt to break free from it, his voice filled with betrayal.
A new presence emerged, stepping into the grim tableau. Morticia, cleansed of the dungeon's shadows, adorned in opulent attire, entered with an air of unsettling composure. The shock on everyone's faces mirrored my own as Morticia stood next to the imposter, a dark smile on her face. I glanced at Keiran and was heartbroken when I saw the look on his face, a look that told me he wasn't expecting this from her.
"Callahan had help," she declared, her gaze locked onto Kieran with an unsettling calmness. "And that help came from me."
The revelation hung in the air, a poisonous truth that poisoned the very core of our trust. Morticia's betrayal, orchestrated with a meticulous malevolence, cast a chilling pall over the kingdom. The pieces of a dark puzzle clicked into place, the shadows weaving a narrative of deceit and treachery. As I looked into Kieran's eyes, I saw the pain and disbelief mirrored in his gaze. Our world had been upended, and the foundation of trust upon which we had built our kingdom had been shattered.
"You assisted him?!" Kieran shouted, furious this time as his eyes glinted dangerously. "How could you do such a thing!?"
"I needed to get back to you someway, somehow." She continued, not a hint of remorse on her face. "After what I had done for you all those years, what did you repay me with? You locked me in the dungeons and left me to rot!" She screamed, her voice resounding in the entire courtyard. Taking a deep breath, she let it out and continued more calmly. "I'm sorry if this betrayal hurt, but I had to what I had to do."
Through the mate-bond, I was able to feel all the anguish and pain that was coursing through the Alpha King at the moment and it was a miracle that I was still standing. His pain was so intense, my physical body was hurting from it. Tears were leaving my eyes like rain, and sobs threatened to break out from my lips.
"Morticia, How dare you!" He seethed, increasing his struggles as pure rage enveloped him. For a moment, it looked like he would break of his chains and barriers but more hooks were sunk into his skin, immobilizing him completely as more blood spilled from his body.
"Stop it! I screamed, unable to bear it any longer, my body feeling like I was the one who was struck instead and I fell to my knees, unable to hold my body weight anymore. Kieran was still howling, still trying to free himself from his constraints. Callahan just kept laughing, enjoying the scene that was unfolding before him.
"Oh... Hey now. Don't try to hurt her. She has nothing to with this. I only asked for her help and she offered it with open arms." He said as he watched keiran struggle. He turned his gaze back to Morticia, a smile on his face as he took a strand of her hair, twirling it in in his fingers. "Thank you for assisting me, Morticia. Without it, I would not have been able to conquer this kingdom like I did." He said, his voice solemn for the first time since he arrived.
"It's only to achieve a greater goal. You know what that goal is." Morticia replied, a smile on her face even as her eyes blazed with fire. He chuckled before pulling her close to kiss her lips and another set of gasps broke out in the courtyard. I gasped as well, my heartache momentarily forgotten.
That was before he snuck her hand around her neck and snapped it, the sickening sound resounding in the entire courtyard. Morticia's face paled with shock almost immediately, before blood trickled down her nose and her body sagged, her life snuffed out almost instantly. Callahan released his hold and she dropped to the ground, limp.
"Your job here is done. Thank you for letting me use you." He muttered distatefully as he stared at her lifeless body. My mouth fells slack with shock and the reality of the man thst had taken hold of this kingdom fell on me like a boulder. This man was a bigger monster than I could ever realize.
An amused laughter broke from his lips even as the courtyard fell into an eerie silence. He returned his gaze back to me. I hunched my shoulders against the chill that ran down my spine, instinctively moving backwards in an attempt to avoid him. A disturbing smile curled his lips and his red eyes glinted as she spoke. "And who might you be? You've been defying me ever since I walked into the castle." He said as he moved closer and Kieran began to snarl possessively.
"I'm no one..." I stated hurriedly, unable to tear my gaze away from him. "So I suggest you stay away from me." Callahan chortled, as if finding my statement amusing before his gaze caught the ring on my fingers, the ring of authority that contained the Alpha king's seal that Keiran had given to me. I immediately tried to hide it, fear seizing my chest. His gaze narrowed and he moved even closer, the smirk on his face vanishing almost instantly.
"Who are you to Kieran?"
