Chapter 233

Chapter 233
Stella's POV

The ice beneath my feet groans, a death rattle echoing the desperation in Kai’s eyes.

Damon’s laughter rings out, a discordant symphony of madness that clashes with the howling wind.

“You think you can stop me?” he taunts, his armor shifting like a living entity, the nanites pulsating with a malevolent glow.

Kai struggles against the silver tendrils binding him, his face contorted with pain. “Stella, go!” he shouts, his voice raw with urgency.

“Save the cub!” His words are a knife to my heart, twisting the wound of our separation deeper.

I clutch our child closer, feeling his tiny body tremble in my arms. The cub’s cries have subsided, replaced by a strange stillness, as if he senses the gravity of the moment.

Behind me, the Silver Rot soldiers advance, their weapons glinting in the firelight. One lunges forward, his blade aimed at my back. In a reflexive burst of power, the last vestiges of my storm blood flare to life. Green lightning arcs from my fingertips, striking the soldier with a deafening crack. He convulses, his armor smoking, before collapsing onto the ice. But the effort leaves me weak, my vision blurring at the edges.

I take a step forward, my legs shaking beneath me. Every movement is a battle against the pain that courses through my body, a reminder of the wounds I’ve sustained. Damon watches me, his eyes narrowing with disdain.

“You’re a fool, Stella,” he sneers. “Do you really think you can stand against the power of the gods?”

“Gods?” I laugh, the sound bitter and hollow. “You’re no god, Damon. You’re just a man drunk on power, willing to sacrifice everything for your delusions. You’re no different from Gregory, so blinded by your ambition that you’ve lost sight of what it means to be human.” My voice trembles with anger and sorrow as I continue,

“I remember the boy you used to be, the one who would laugh and play in the snow. What happened to you? What twisted you into this monster?”

Damon’s face contorts with rage, his armor rippling like a stormy sea. “I am not a monster!” he roars. “I am the future! When I ascend to godhood, I will reshape this world in my image. I will decide who lives and who dies, who is worthy and who is not.”

With a flick of his wrist, he hurls Kai towards me. My mate crashes to the ice at my feet, gasping for breath.

I kneel beside Kai, my hands trembling as I check him for injuries. “Are you okay?” I whisper, tears streaming down my face. He looks up at me, his eyes filled with love and determination. “I’m fine,” he says, reaching out to touch my face. “But we need to get out of here.”

I shake my head. “Not without you.” I turn to face Damon, my eyes blazing with defiance.

“You’re wrong, Damon. You can’t create a god. True power doesn’t come from dominating others; it comes from protecting them, from loving them. You’re nothing but a pathetic excuse for a leader, a coward hiding behind technology and lies.”

“Silence!” Damon screams, his voice booming across the lake. He lunges towards me, his hand outstretched to snatch the cub from my arms. But before he can reach us, the cub stirs. A sudden burst of energy radiates from his tiny body, a powerful surge of storm magic that crackles with electricity. Blue lightning shoots from his fingertips, striking Damon with a deafening blast.

Damon stumbles backward, his armor smoking and sparking. He looks at the cub, his eyes wide with shock and disbelief. “Impossible,” he mutters. “How can a child possess such power?”

I stand up, holding the cub close. “He’s our child,” I say, pride swelling in my chest. “And he’s stronger than you could ever imagine.”

Damon’s shock quickly turns to rage. “No matter,” he snarls. “I don’t need your cooperation. I’ll take what I want by force.”

He raises his scepter high, the nanites on his armor swirling around it. A dark, pulsating portal opens in the air, emitting a strange, otherworldly glow. “Behold, the ritual of ascension!” he cries.

“With the blood of the alpha, the luna, and their heir, I will become a god!”

The air around us begins to tremble, the ice beneath our feet cracking and shifting. Dark tendrils emerge from the portal, snaking towards us. Kai stands up, positioning himself in front of me and the cub. “I won’t let you hurt them,” he growls, his sword at the ready.

I place a hand on Kai’s shoulder. “We’re in this together,” I say, looking into his eyes. I turn to our child, brushing a lock of hair from his forehead. “Mommy and Daddy are here,” I whisper. “We’ll always be with you, no matter what.”

The tendrils draw closer, their cold, clammy touch sending shivers down my spine. Damon’s laughter fills the air once again, a terrifying sound that seems to come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. But I’m not afraid. With Kai by my side and our child in my arms, I know that we can face anything.

“We love you,” I say, pressing a kiss to the cub’s forehead. “Always.”
