Melissa's POV
At first, none of us said a word to each other, our eyes still locked together.
"Why do you look so surprise Melissa, I am sure that you know about this already"
My jaw dropped at his words, covered by guilt, I gazed down at the grass.
"How could you know about something like this and keep it to yourself? How could you Melissa?!" He roared really upset.
Surprised to see Conri in such a way, I knew within me that this has become more serious than I originally thought of it.
"Anabelle is my friend and she begged me to keep this a secret" I mumbled, raising my head up to him.
Conri shook his head really aggressively, he brushed through his hair scattering it into different directions.
"Can you even hear yourself Melissa? I know how close you two are but that isn't enough reason for you to see the danger their relationship brings and inform Nelson about this. This isn't just Nelson pack but yours too, you are Luna and it is your responsibility to protect your subjects and is this how you are going to do it? Putting friendship first before responsibility? No way Melissa! It isn't done this way, things are not meant to be followed in such a way, you really messed up keeping this to yourself and only fate knows for how long this has been going on!" He blurted out really upset but tried as much as possible to keep still.
Great gulit held me tight. I couldn't blame Conri for reacting so hard, he is right in a way but I can't imagine myself tampering with Anabelle's happiness. She is so good to me and I can't see myself causing her pain, not at all.
"Do you two think that no one will find out about this someday?" Conri asked, his question shook me greatly.
He is right!
This isn't something that can be hidden forever.
I shook my head at him, "No but, Conri, how did you find out about this?" I couldn't help but ask.
Conri breathed in deeply, "it's very easy for anyone to figure this out"
"How? I don't understand you"
"Listen Melissa, I have been spying on Anabelle for a week now . She is always meeting that young werewolf every day deep in the woods at the path that links our park with that of the hunters. Is she nuts to take such a risk? What is she thinking? That no one from her park or his pack won't find her? What if one of the hunters gets to see her with this young, recognize that she is the sister of the Alpha, do you think they will spare her life? No way! They won't think twice but murder her! This is something you should have thought about so well before you insisted on following her and keeping this forbidden relationship a secret. This won't end well at all Melissa, you should know this because this war just didn't start now but since the days of our last Alphas…."
"But they love each other" I protested, cutting him short, "They do love each other, can't their love save them and give them the happiness they deserve?"
"Love?" Conri's forehead squeezed in anger, "Love? Did you just say love, Melissa?"
"What is love?"
" Huh?"
" Tell me!"
"What exactly is love Melissa?" His eyes shone making me speechless as words failed to come out.
"Love is happiness, love isn't pain, love is something you long for every day just to be with that one person. Love is joy and eternal acceptance, this is the meaning of love Melissa and not the thought stuck deep in your head!
At that point, I didn't know what else to say, I gulped down really hard, unable to look at him.
"You got the wing meaning of love Melissa. This is an affair that can never work out! Her brother won't accept this neither will Anabelle's lover people when they get to hear about this. And you say that they love each other,do you think that the young man in question will be able to lay down his life for her once he is caught by his Alpha. Don't you know that the punishment of disloyalty and betrayal in every park is death. Do you think the young man will lay down his life and not choose to betray Anabelle just to save his head…" Conri paused shaking his head in disappointment, "You should have thought about these better, she is indeed wasting her time with the young men because nothing good can ever come out of that relationship and how sure are you that Anabelle isn't the one betraying us"
My eyes flung open at his accusation.
"Of course not! Anabelle won't do such, she loves her brother so much that she won't want to have him killed"
Conri scoffed, "Anabelle is my very good friend, you are aware of this but one thing you don't know about Melissa is that when a woman is in love, she is blinded by everything around her. All she craves is to be with her man and can do anything to make him happy, anything including betraying the trust of a family member. Love can be very manipulative attimes, anything is possible Melissa, open your eyes to it!"
I stared at him with a dropped jaw.
This can't be true
Anabelle can't betray the trust of her brother.
Not regarding the fact that she hated her father but the deep love she shared for Nelson will never make her choose her lover park instead of her own park.
"So what do you suggest should be done, Conri"
"Simple, they should split apart, I am going to inform Nelson about this tomorrow, I am sure he will force her never to see her lover again"
Conri's frown deepened.
"The most difficult part of this is that her lover is a part of the guards who tend to fight against us during wars. I have seen his face before, I don't forget faces. He is a very skilled fighter and one of the strongest among the hunters werewolves,I am sure that you do know his name.
I nodded in agreement.
"Yes I do. His name is Jeremy" I affirmed but continued immediately, "He is good man, he isn't like the rest"
Conri gave me a deadly look, "A good man?.." he scoffed, "Anabelle told you this right. Of course, she did. He will surely be a good man to her because she is in love. Love is blind Melissa, this is a feeling of the heart that makes you a blind person overnight. I won't fail to inform Nelson about this as soon as the sun rises"
I gazed alarmed, "No you can't Conri"
"Why?"
"Nelson will take it very aggressively and won't ever forgive his sister. Moreover, Anabelle might think that I informed you about this."
A cold expression appeared in his gaze.
"I don't care Melissa. I am the Beta of this park and it's my duty to keep the park save at all times"
"Please don't Conti. Instead, let me talk to her about this myself"
"How are you sure that she will listen to you?"
I had no clue, "I just have to try and get back to you. But for now, do keep this news away from Nelson…for now" I muttered as I wonder how I am going to go about with this.
