Nelson's Pov

The room fell dead silent, my eyes leaving my sister and falling on her surprised face of Melissa.

"Alright" Anabelle muttered getting up to her feet, she placed a hand on Melissa's lap, her face filled with a soft smile, "I will be back later" she noted, gave the maid a sign, "Clean this up once she is done with her tea, for now, let's go, you will have to come back later"

Saying this, together with the maid, I watched Anabelle walk out of the room leaving me and Melissa alone. Melissa didn't look pleased that I cut short their discussion but the thoughts I had buried in my head ever since her attack couldn't get off my mind.

"You shouldn't have done that, '' Melissa said, breaking the silence between us.

"I need us to talk"

"Why can't it wait for later? I and your sister were having a good time and you just decided to ruin it with your presence" she muttered looking so displeased.

"My presence ruined it?"

"Of course Nelson, I don't know what you want to discuss with me that just can't wait till when she leaves"

I let out a sigh taking a closer step towards the bed where she lay, her eyes not leaving me.

"I don't care what you say or how you see this. You are my mate and I have every right to decide on when to see you. You shouldn't be telling me what to do in my pack" I countered with a nod.

"Well, apparently, this isn't your pack yet, you are not the alpha Nelson"

"I am soon to be Alpha, you know this" I pointed out.

"But you are not"

I rolled my eyes at her words, "Must we argue all the time?..." I asked rhetorically not expecting an answer from her, "I just need you to listen to me for once, this isn't something that we have to strangle each other's necks for. I am here to discuss something with you"

"Hope it doesn't have to do with us acting like the perfect couple?" She raised a brow at me.

At first, I couldn't utter a word. Clearly, she is impossible and her guts really infuriated me. Slowly, my eyes fell on the bandage on her head, the image of the stranger almost killing her flashed through my mind and I still don't understand why I felt so much pain inside of me. It was like we were connected by something that made me know how much pain she was passing through at that moment.

It was so fierce that Phoenix ended up coming out in full force and ready to tear the strange man into tiny bits but to my surprise, the man was way stronger than I imagined, he fought so well and I couldn't even give him a scratch, a realization that hurts my ego until today.

Who is this man?

How did he get into the pack?

Why was his attention fixed on Melissa that he was so serious about getting her killed?

The whole story wasn't adding up and the more I thought about it, the more it made me super confused.

Within a flash, he began to run off. I ran after him but to my shock, it felt like he vanished into thin air. There was no sign of him, and as I tried to trace him through a scent, I noticed that he had none at all.

I just can't imagine that I lost him. How is that possible? After all my effort in bringing him back to where I stood, his strength is something I haven't witnessed In other werewolves. Something is going on that no one knows about, maybe Melissa does have an idea, after all, she is the one the man came for.

"Melissa, I am not here to talk about us but to talk about your attack, do you in any way know who your attacker is?" I asked, watching her closely.

A confused expression stayed glued on her face accompanied by an unhappy one. At that point, I knew that there is something bordering her, something she is afraid to talk about.

"I don't know who he is," she muttered, shaking her head.

I watched her closely, her expression says something entirely different.

"You don't?"

"Yes," she briefly replied.

"Did you in any way see his face?"

Melissa raised her head to me, deep fear arose in her eyes, "No I didn't. His grip was so strong on me that I couldn't at all"

I knew she was telling the truth but something deep down tells me that there is something she is keeping away from me. It's obvious that she is worried but still, she doesn't want to talk about it.

"Is there something you are hiding from me?"

Hearing my question, she looked up at me with widened eyes.

"What do you mean by that?" She implored.

"Are you hiding any valid Information from me, Melissa"

Quickly, she shook her head like she was scared to say it out in front of me.

"Not at all, why will you think that I am"

I came closer to the side of her bed, folded my arms, and raised a brow at her.

"Your looks say it all, it's so easy to read you like an open book. Do you in any way know who that werewolf is? This will help us, especially you, with the look of things, I am certain that whoever let this man is, will give him another way in to come hurt you again and who knows what will happen if he gets to you again, you might not be lucky like this"

At once, something struck my mind, the picture of the guard spilling the news of how they got attacked and my assumption that indeed, a traitor is present in the pack.

How sure am I that this same spy isn't the one that led this strange man into the pack?

The pictures weren't adding up. It looked more blurry than I can think of and the deeper I think about it, the more it drives me crazy.

I turned my attention back to Melissa who looks like she is deep in thought herself.

"Come on, I won't be patient like this next time. I might not be in the situation to help you out if he comes again, all I need from you is nothing but the truth. Or more information that can help me and my men track him down. He is a trespasser and can't just escape like that, so the sooner you start saying something, the better for everyone"

"What are you talking about Nelson?" Melissa let out looking very frustrated.

"I told you already, I know nothing, nothing at all! I am a human brought out from my world and into a world of wolves. I don't know any werewolves other than you and your pack. How do you expect me to explain this? How?! I am more terrified than I have ever been because of my encounter, I don't want you to make it harder than it seems, please" she muttered looking very sober, her eyes welled up with tears.

Seeing the tears in her eyes, I felt so sorry and angry at myself. She is still recovering from the shock and pain, instead of me letting her be, I am here causing her more stress but I just couldn't help myself but ask questions. The whole situation was taking another entire turn of events and anyone in my shoes will be more worried than ever.

Melissa looked away from me, she lay on the bed and I could hear her sniff.

"Alright, I will let you be, you need to rest," I said to her expecting her to avert her gaze at me but she didn't. Seeing that it was no use, I walked out of the room with two-sided minds.
