Chapter 136
Chapter 136
I took a deep breath. With Kath around, I won't have to worry about Ariel.
"Isn't that Ariel?" Kath pointed.
"You know her?" I asked Kath and she nodded.
"Yes. She is my best friend."
I furrowed my brow. S-she is Kath's best friend? I did not expect that.
"You're joking right?"
Kath smiled. "I am not. Why did you ask?"
"I am just surprised," I mumbled.
That girl is weird.
"How did you make friends with her?" I asked, curiosity eating me up. "Does she always act this way? I mean pulling her hair down frequently and ignoring people."
Kath burst into laughter. "I am so sorry. She did that to you?"
I nodded. Isn't that her usual attitude? Or is she just treating me differently?
Kath chuckled again. "Ariel can be strange sometimes but she is one of the sweetest souls I know."
I rolled my eyes. I am not buying that.
"I do not think so," I mumbled.
"Ariel, over here," Kath called out to her.
Ariel walked to us smiling. Her hair was packed up again, and that made me wonder if she ever gets tired of taking them up and bringing them down almost all the time.
"Hi, Kath. You know her?" She asked.
"Yes. I am her maid and she is Miss Audrey's friend."
Ariel scoffed. "I saw them together. Does she know how hypocritical she can be?"
Who is the hypocrite? Me? Audrey?
"She isn't," Kath answered.
"Do you know how happy she was when she was said to be the only normal Unusual?" Ariel asked.
I could tell she was angry again.
Kath stared at me. "Did you look down on the rest of the Unusuals?"
I rolled my eyes slightly. Do I have the right to look down on people? I am the daughter of traitors and I know what it feels like to be treated differently.
I sighed. "Ariel, I don't know what you mean by I was happy, but I can tell you that I will never look down on the Unusuals. I am one of you and looking down on you doesn't make me different."
Kath nodded. "Ariel, I think there is a misunderstanding. Maybe you both should talk it out."
Ariel shook her head. "It's not a misunderstanding. It's the fact. And I am going to prove that to you in the next two weeks."
Kath stared at me and I shrugged. Maybe she should do that.
"I am leaving Kath. See you later."
Ariel left, and I followed Kath to my room.
"Miss Karen?" Kath called and I looked at her.
"Yes?"
"Ariel doesn't lie. She must have seen something about you in the future. I hope you will stay away from anything that can make the rest dislike you."
I nodded. "Thank you."
I do not know how true Ariel's seeing ability is but I was certain of something; I do not and would not look down on others.
We began to arrange my clothes into the bags so we could leave soon.
"This must belong to you," Kath stretched a necklace to me.
It was Luella's necklace. I took it from her and stared at it.
How is she doing now? Does she ever think about me?
I put it on and went on to arrange my clothes. When we were done, Kath went to get the people who would help us carry them down. I decided to look around to see if I had left anything unpacked but there wasn't any.
Kath returned with two women and they carried the first set of bags down with Kath following them. They returned alone to carry the rest of the bags. I carried the last bag and left with them. We got to where Kath was waiting and they left after dropping the bags in the booth.
Ariel joined us a few minutes later with her maid and her bags. Kath joined her to put the bags in the booth and I joined them too.
"This won't make me like you," Ariel said.
"I am not asking you to," I replied.
We were done putting the bags into the booth, so we entered the bus to wait for the rest.
Ariel and Kath went on to talk about some things that I wasn't familiar with. At first, I listened, but after a while, I got bored, so I began to tap my feet on the floor instead.
Later, I went on to play with the necklace on my neck, and at some point, I had to look out through the window.
One after the other, the girls returned with their maids and we became ten instead of five. The car finally started moving and I breathed a sigh of relief.
During the drive, I noticed the car wasn't as quiet as it was when we made the first trip; now the girls are either talking to their maids or the maids are talking to themselves.
I felt like I was the only one with no one to talk to; even Kath was busy with Ariel. I rested my back on the chair and closed my eyes.
I began to think of what my life would have been like if I were still at Moonlight Pack and nothing had happened to my parents.
It's been a while since I had that thought; maybe I do now because I have nothing else to occupy my mind.
I opened my eyes to see if we were getting close to the dorm but I couldn't say. I closed my eyes again and decided to sleep. Someone tapped me and I had to open my eyes.
The bus was still moving, but surprisingly, it was empty. I sat up quickly, wondering if I was hallucinating, but I wasn't.
"Kath? Ariel?" I called out and my voice echoed back.
I became scared. Was someone playing pranks on me? Or is this actually happening to me?
I called out for Ariel and Kath again; my voice only echoed back.
"Stop the car!" I screamed.
The more I screamed, the more my voice echoed. At first, it echoed once, but later it increased from one to two and from two to three.
I tried to stand up from the chair but I felt a hand hold me back. The bus suddenly came to a stop, and I thought all was over, but it wasn't.
The bus began to spin in circles and I screamed again. Everything happening wasn't making any sense to me and that made me more scared.
I stopped screaming when I began to feel dizzy.
"Are you okay?" I heard a voice.
I wasn't sure who the voice belonged to, but hearing it calmed me down a bit.
"Do you think she is fine?" I heard another voice.
I began to hear more voices but I wasn't seeing anyone. I began to look around, hoping to see just a face; maybe that would give me hope.
The bus stopped spinning, and I took a deep breath. I tried to stay calm and even closed my eyes, hoping that when I opened them, everything would be back to normal.
