Chapter 28 Sealed Room

Chapter 28 Sealed Room
Chapter 29 Sealed Room
The sealed room not have even one window. No wall clock, no name plate carved letter.
Only one long black stone table, four hard chairs, and the white light from the ceiling shine down enough to tear apart every dark corner, but still cold to the point that can't call it "transparent" anymore.
It make heart beat faster, like the air is squeezing the chest.
Raven step in first, shoulder slightly hunched a bit, like trying to keep calm. The door close behind her with dry click sound, echo like a verdict without way back, no escape. My heart tighten when think about that.
Three people already sit there, their shadow on the stone table like familiar ghosts but position mix up.
The old man, who used to sit silent at previous meetings, now look at her with deep tired eyes.
The silver hair woman, metal chain dangling on her neck glitter under the light, like a reminder about invisible chains.
And the young man, not from old Severance, with sharp, alert, clean eyes to the scary point, like a freshly sharpened knife.
"R-13," the young one speak, voice even but with some probe. "Or call it... Raven."
She sit down, hand slightly shake when place the tape roll and metal box on the table. Raven can feel the anxiety creeping in every move of her, even though face still keep determined look.
"Call me the one need to hear the answer," Raven say, her voice calm but I know inside surging fear mixed with determination.
The woman smile faintly, smile not reach eyes.
"Direct," she say, voice gentle like praising a wild animal.
"We like that."
"So I also direct," Raven answer, her eyes flash challenge.
"Severance been suspended. You call me here to patch that name back, right?"
Her words carry bitterness, like every word is a cut from past.
The old man interlock fingers, finger squeeze tight until white.
"No," he say, voice low like whisper from dark.
"We call you here to end a chapter."
Raven raise eyebrow, small gesture but full of doubt I see her heart beat irregularly.
"By open another chapter," she say. "Different name. Different cover."
The young one nod, not deny at all, his eyes scan her like evaluating a product.
"We propose restructure," he say.
"A new agency, cross supervision, more transparent. And we need... a reliable face."
Raven chuckle slightly, fragile smile hide the pain rising.
"You need me."
That not a question, but bitter acknowledgment she know she is being pulled into the vortex.
"We need your story," the woman correct, her voice sweet but sharp.
"The victim stand up. Living witness. A guarantee that the old thing will not repeat."
She tilt head, like waiting for her nod, but Raven feel the fear of Raven afraid that her story only tool for them.
She lean back on chair, take deep breath to calm. "What in exchange?"
The old man answer, his voice heavy like carrying too big secret:
"Access to file. Initial veto right. And... safety."
Raven tilt head, her eyes flash suspicion.
"Safety for who?"
That question carry real worry for the people she love, for herself.
"For people like Lina," the woman say, her voice gentler, almost convincing.
"For Lucas. For... you."
Raven silent a beat, her hand on metal box, finger squeeze tight like clinging to last hope.
Her heart ache when see this strong outside, but inside storm.
"You want me stand before the new thing," she say.
"But I will not sign for you."
Those words full of determination, but Raven know it hide fear of being swallowed.
The young one squint eyes, his voice cold.
"We not request signature. Only request presence."
"Presence is public signature," Raven answer, her voice shake slightly at the end.
"And public signature then... can't erase." She thinking about the price, loss of freedom, betrayal of self.
The old man sigh long, like burden just off.
"Do you understand the game?"
"No," Raven say, her voice more determined than ever, even though heart beat fast.
"I understand what the price to pay is."
That real pain, pain of someone who lost too much.
She open the box lid, hand slightly shake. The tape lay there small, fragile, silent like whisper from past.
"Do you know what my mother leave?" Raven ask, her voice hoarse because emotion.
No one answer. Air heavy, like they waiting for bomb to explode.
"Not curse," Raven say, her eyes look far.
"Not revenge plan. But a choice."
Those words carry regret, deep missing for mother who gone.
The woman lean forward, her voice curious mixed with worry.
"Have you hear it yet?"
"No," Raven answer, her voice get smaller, full of inner conflict.
"Because I know, hear it, I will not stand in the middle anymore."
She fighting, between past and future, between safe and truth.
The young one smile coldly, like enjoying this moment.
"In the middle is the most power place."
"In the middle is the crushed place," Raven answer, her voice sharp but full of pain.
"My mother try. You burn." That sentence like old wound ripped open, make room air thick, heavy to suffocate.
"So you refuse?" the old man ask, his voice tired, like begging.
Raven not answer immediately. She silent, hand place SILENT CORE on the table beside the tape roll, gesture full of implication, like silent threat.
Her heart in turmoil, can feel it.
"You want new chapter," she say finally. "I agree... with one condition."
Three eyes all stick to her, tension so high can hear breathing.
"What condition?" the young one ask, his voice more urgent.
"No closed restructure," Raven say, her voice shake because determination.
"No room without window. No vague emergency right. Every order must have time limit, independent supervision, and witness cancel right."
She fighting for light, even though fear gnawing her from inside.
"Which witness?" the woman ask, her voice sharp.
"All," Raven answer, her eyes flash fragile hope. "Anyone ever called 'leak point'."
The old man shake head, his face frown because conflict.
"You propose..."
"...a system can't protect itself with dark," Raven cut in, her voice stronger than ever.
"Yes."
That challenge from heart, full of pain and desire to change.
Silence drag on, heavy like curse. Finally, the young one speak slowly:
"You want make us become something... unfamiliar."
"No," Raven say, her voice soften but firm.
"I want you remember. Remember the mistakes, remember the victims, and she hope they choose right.
She stand up, leg slightly shake but walk firm.
"I will not be your face," Raven say.
"I will be the boundary. Step over, everything in here" she touch SILENT CORE lightly "will be open."
That gesture full of threat, but also her fear afraid to face truth alone.
The woman look at the tape, her voice whisper: "And that?"
Raven pick up the tape roll, squeeze tight in hand like last treasure.
"That is my mother's," she say, voice choked. "Not negotiation tool." That emotion real, like crack in her strong shell.
She turn back, shoulder slightly drop because tired.
"You have twenty four hours," Raven say. "Choose between sign into light... or let me play the tape."
The door open, and she walk away, not look back but I know, inside her heart surging many anxiety.
The outside corridor long and quiet to scary.
Kade wait ready, lean wall with clear worry on face.
"How?" he ask, voice hoarse because stress.
"Like I guess," Raven answer, try to smile weakly.
"They want me stand before. I choose stand in front." Those words hide tiredness, but her eyes show exhaustion.
Lucas step forward, his hand grip her hand tight.
"Are you afraid?" he ask, voice full of worry, like hugging her pain.
Raven look at the tape in hand, finger squeeze until white.
"Yes," she say honestly, voice shake because emotion.
"But fear not be thing they use anymore." That honest admission, fear turn into strength.
The device vibrate, internal message loud: "COUNCIL DISCUSSING. TIME LIMIT: 24 HOURS."
Niko sigh long, his face pale. "Count down."
Raven nod, her eyes shine determination mixed with sadness.
"In that time," she say, voice small but firm, "I will hear mother speak."
She squeeze the tape roll, like hugging last warmth from past.
Late night, in the room quiet to suffocating, Raven put the tape into old machine. Her hand shake, heart beat fast because fear and excitement mixed.
Rè...
Evelyn's voice sound familiar, warm but full of regret:
"If you are listening this part... then you reach the fork that we can't turn back."
