Chapter 165: True Nobility
Chapter 165: True Nobility
Alvin watched as Tony's bodyguard, the chubby Derek, fully geared up, led a few guys to haul boxes of specialized weapons into the restaurant. Frank, Jack, and Steve eagerly moved in to pick out the right gear.
Peter and Samuel somehow sneaked up, giving Alvin a hesitant look.
Alvin had a pretty good idea of what they wanted. Russell hadn't had a private chat, and these two kids had sharp ears. They were definitely here to join the action.
Alvin shook his head. No way he was letting them do something so dangerous. This wasn't a fight with gangsters; as long as the adults were still around, it wasn't their turn to battle monsters.
Ignoring the kids' looks, Alvin turned to Russell and said, "You've fought them and survived. What do we need to watch out for?"
Russell thought for a moment, shrugged, and said, "Not much to watch out for. You know what they're afraid of. It's just that the sewers smell terrible. Haha!"
Alvin frowned, feeling troubled. Fighting in the sewers was indeed awful. Unfortunately, the vines' abilities were limited; they were hard to control from too far away. Letting the vines act freely might kill more ordinary people than vampires, as they were deadly weapons.
Moreover, New York's sewer system had been upgraded and renovated for nearly a century, making it extremely complex. Alvin could only have Cobra Lily patrol the sewers under his feet regularly to kill strange things inside.
Now, to find those vampires, he had to go down there himself.
Alvin could sense that Russell had some intention of using him, but he didn't mind.
This bastard wouldn't come to him unless he was desperate. The situation was definitely not as relaxed as he appeared. Regarding the vampire issue, Alvin didn't mind being used, especially since these vampires were active on Hellfire Boulevard.
Alvin regretted feeling sorry for Russell earlier and persuading Ethan. It seemed unnecessary now.
Tony, on the other hand, was very enthusiastic. He found this kind of activity exciting and was explaining the use of those weapons to Frank and the others.
Golf ball-sized ultraviolet bombs, modified MP4s with a 40-round capacity, and a large number of silver-plated bullets. These two items were suitable for use in the sewers.
Various silver-plated weapons were laid out on the ground. Jack was looking at them with great interest, wanting to pick a fierce one for himself. He had been eyeing Frank's harpoon for a long time.
Steve wasn't picky at all. He took an MP4 with 20 magazines and chose a short sword that matched his shield.
Frank, a seasoned soldier, took an MP4 and dozens of ultraviolet bombs. Not feeling secure, he went back to his house and brought a big bag filled with plastic explosives.
Alvin felt a bit nervous. He never knew Frank kept so many explosives at home. It's said that plastic explosives are very safe, but keeping them at home was a bit much.
"Hey! Frank, next time don't keep such dangerous things at home. There are two kids here!" Alvin shouted at Frank, a bit displeased.
Frank glanced at Alvin and said with a smile, "They're very safe. But if you don't like it, I'll use them up and won't buy more."
Hearing Frank's tone, buying explosives seemed as easy as buying snacks at the supermarket, making Alvin's heart tighten. It's one thing to keep some guns and ammo at home on Hellfire Boulevard, but having enough explosives to blow up a building? That's overkill. And I live right next door to you. Ever think about my feelings?
Alvin shook his head, having nothing more to say to Frank, who was always ready for war. He turned to Peter and Samuel and said, "Stop drooling and pick out a few fun things to play with. These are Mr. Stark's gifts. Don't take guns; they won't be useful to you."
Peter and Samuel happily picked out a bunch of interesting gadgets, packed them in a backpack, and walked up to Alvin, looking at him like warriors waiting for orders.
Alvin smiled helplessly. Warmongers were hard to manage!
Patting Peter and Samuel on the shoulders, Alvin said, "Your task is to stay and guard the house. The girls are gone, and there are two kids here. This place needs someone to stay, and I think you're the right people for the job."
Peter and Samuel sighed in disappointment and left dejectedly. They didn't dare to defy the principal's authority; the consequences were too scary.
Splinter, supported by Leonardo, came to the first floor, staggering a bit. Seeing everyone gearing up, Splinter looked at Alvin worriedly and said, "Are you going to trouble those ghostly things? They're hard to deal with!
Oh, I always forget to introduce myself. I'm Splinter, Leonardo's teacher."
Alvin admired Splinter. A person turned into a big rat, raising a few little turtles, surviving in the dirty sewers, yet not turning to crime, and instead teaching his students to have a strong sense of justice.
This made Alvin very respectful. Not everyone could do that. At least Alvin thought that if he were in Splinter's position, he would likely go mad or become a criminal. They had the ability.
Alvin smiled and nodded at Splinter, saying, "It's okay. Everyone here is an expert in dealing with vampires. Maybe after today, the sewer's ecosystem will improve a lot."
Splinter, seeing Alvin's confidence, said worriedly, "There are not only the vampires you mentioned but also some other people. They capture many people from other parts of New York, mostly homeless sewer dwellers. They force those poor people to work for them. My students and I have also been hunted by them.
They're very powerful, and they seem to cooperate with those monsters. Whenever those forced laborers get sick or injured, they're handed over to the monsters."
Alvin frowned and asked in a deep voice, "What do they look like? Why didn't you report it to the police?"
Splinter smiled bitterly and said, "Report to the police? Who would believe a rat and four turtles? If we show up, we'll either be dissected or put on display. I can't think of any other outcome.
We've fought those monsters and the red-clad ninjas. We hope to rescue some people, but our strength is limited."
Alvin nodded sympathetically, increasingly admiring this big rat. He had power but never considered using it for evil. Instead, he avoided people and lived a difficult life.
When others were in danger, he was willing to help, even if it put him in danger. They could leave these sewers. Which city's sewers in our country can't be lived in? It makes no difference to them! But they didn't!
They chose to fight, to protect some people!
They didn't ask for anything in return because they couldn't even show themselves.
They lived in the dark, dirty sewers, but their hearts were clean, much stronger than many who appeared noble!
This was a truly noble person, even if he now looked like a big rat!
