Chapter 157: Matt's Troubles
Chapter 157: Matt's Troubles
Matt sat anxiously on a chair, staring at a woman lying on the bed, her face deathly pale.
Since last night, Matt had almost vomited his guts out. The woman in front of him was an assassin from the Handshake Association, sent to kill Alvin. Somehow, she ended up in this terrible state.
How was he supposed to interrogate her? Being with her was a test of his willpower!
Matt initially thought the people on the rooftop were there to cause trouble for Alvin. Now it seemed they might be Alvin's subordinates, but their weapons were truly despicable.
Matt, blinded by chemicals, had gained heightened senses. Besides his hearing, his sense of smell was also excellent. But now, his heightened sense of smell was driving him crazy.
The unconscious woman in front of him might have been directly hit by those despicable weapons. She smelled so bad it was unbearable. He had soaked her in the bathtub for three hours, but as soon as the water dried on her body, the pungent odor would fill the room again.
The irate neighbor had come to complain with a rifle for the third time. Matt had to seal the windows and turn off the air conditioning to prevent the smell from leaking out.
Poor Matt vomited the last bit of bile from his body. He felt like he was going to die if this continued. To fight the evil Handshake Association, the mighty Daredevil was going to be stunk to death.
Desperate from the stench, Matt, in a very ungentlemanly manner, stripped the smelly woman naked and wrapped her layer by layer in plastic wrap, leaving only two small holes for her to breathe through her nostrils.
Since he couldn't see, he believed the woman wouldn't mind too much.
If someone walked in and saw the scene, Matt would undoubtedly be labeled a pervert. The girl was still alive!
Matt packed the stripped clothes in a plastic bag, sealed it, and took it to the trash can downstairs.
At the cost of being cursed by his neighbors, Matt opened the window to let the terrible smell dissipate.
Luckily, this was Hellfire Boulevard, where people didn't have the habit of calling the police. Otherwise, just based on the smell, Matt would have to spend a few days at the police station.
Alvin and Steve gathered at the door, smoking cigars, watching a tanker truck sent by Tony. Under the direction of a black woman in a lab coat, it was spraying a liquid on the road.
Tony wasn't exaggerating; the "super deodorizer" was indeed effective. After half an hour of spraying, the street's smell began to disappear, replaced by a faint scent of grass, which was quite pleasant.
The black woman didn't look very old. If she invented this deodorizer, she was indeed a talent. Many things are only appreciated when you need them, and this "super deodorizer" was one of them.
Alvin decided that once they finished with the road and the exterior walls of the opposite apartment, he would invite her to try it in his restaurant. The first-floor restaurant might still be salvageable, and renovations cost a lot of money!
When the black woman had some free time, Alvin approached her, extended his right hand, and said with a smile, "Hello, I'm Alvin, the owner of the restaurant across the street. I'm glad you could come to help; otherwise, this street would be ruined."
The black woman smiled upon hearing Alvin's name. She clearly knew who Alvin was, whether Tony or Pepper had sent her, they couldn't avoid mentioning Alvin.
The black woman shook hands with Alvin and said with a smile, "Hello, Alvin, I'm Kate Caldwell. I've heard of you. The fact that my invention can be useful here is the best affirmation for me."
Kate smiled wryly and said, "If it weren't for this incident, I might be unemployed again, for the second time!"
Alvin shrugged and said with a smile, "No way, this deodorizer is, in my opinion, the greatest invention of the century. It saved our street!
If I were Tony, I would never let you be unemployed. Genius inventions always come with genius minds!"
Kate was a bit embarrassed by Alvin's praise and grinned, "Thank you for the compliment! It's the best one I've heard this year!
But the deodorizer project does have some issues. Mr. Stark bought the patent but doesn't want to invest in further development. It's a bit of a pity!"
Alvin didn't want to meddle in Tony's affairs. Tony wasn't an idiot, and he had a team to assess the project's risks and benefits. If he didn't want to invest further, he had his reasons. Interfering could lead to ridicule.
Besides, Alvin thought the current deodorizer was already beyond expectations. What more development was needed? Different flavors?
Alvin laughed and said, "Honestly, Dr. Kate, I think it's great as it is. You've already showcased your talent. Maybe changing direction would be a better choice!
And you've made money, haven't you?"
Kate, a straightforward woman, seeing she couldn't get help from Alvin, cheerfully stopped and said with a smile, "Indeed, being here is already better than the company I was at in Chicago. At least here, effort is rewarded.
There, it was just lawsuits, and maybe even danger."
Alvin laughed and said, "Then keep enjoying it. Tony isn't stingy. As long as your ideas meet his needs, you'll get investment!
Can you help me out? My restaurant needs your invention to save it. You know, if a restaurant doesn't smell good, it can forget about business."
Kate laughed heartily and said, "No problem. Since you're my first customer, I'll put in extra effort. Your restaurant will be the best-smelling one in New York, haha!"
Alvin happily thanked Kate. He believed that women who laughed often had good fortune. Plus, this girl was well-educated and not bad-looking. She would have good luck!
Steve walked up to Alvin, looked at the working Kate, and nudged Alvin, saying with a smile, "Buddy, you better take it easy. Megan is quite a hottie."
Alvin gave Steve a disdainful look. A bachelor who frequented brothels talking to a handsome gentleman about this seemed a bit odd.
Steve, feeling a bit unsure under Alvin's gaze, looked down at himself and, finding nothing wrong, asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Is there something off about me?"
Alvin shook his head and said, "No, you're fine. You just need a girlfriend. Honestly, Steve, you need to find a good girl. Your assets can't withstand your frequent visits to Yad's nightclub."
Steve laughed heartily, not taking Alvin's bait. He knew talking about this with Alvin was asking for trouble. Quickly changing the subject, he said, "Where did Frank and Jack go? I didn't see them after my shower."
Alvin shrugged and said, "They went to the school. The security guard called, saying there were some people loitering around the construction site again. Frank and Jack went to keep watch."
Alvin, looking a bit troubled, glanced at Steve and said, "Why can't we just get rid of these people?
They keep doing this, and the dormitory construction at the school will be delayed again."
Steve grinned and said, "It's actually quite simple. Find what they want, move it somewhere else, and catch them all at once. It's quick and convenient!"
