Chapter 286 CHAPTER 286
Chapter 286 CHAPTER 286
Ashes filled everything and everywhere and people were running, back into the other side.
Decimating their army was only the first step, and something tells me that's only a small amount of them.
They probably have as much of a long life span as we do but give birth more.
Because that's way too many people.
As Zorath flew forward, my dragons kept pouring fire down.
Across buildings, paths, dried forests that looked like it was being chewed from the inside.
I heard my name being called again and I turned to see Zephyr flying rapidly towards me, Florian waving at me.
My hands rubbed Zorath so he could slow down.
"Princess, I'm sorry we couldn't get you out," he said the second he was within hearing distance, "the King is very pissed off."
"Now isn't the time for that," I said, looking back.
Many of them had crossed over too and I saw him behind the ward, waiting for the rest.
My mother's dragon was in front of him, her hands tied in front of her.
My teeth clenched as the sight invaded my mind.
I wanted to go back, I was enraged, ready to drown him in this destruction that lives in my veins but Florian waved his hand in my face.
"Don't think about it, she's fine. Just win this war, he won't have a choice but to release you both."
"The last time that happened, the consequences was getting leashed to him like a dog," I hissed.
"We can't fight him, Trouble," Zorath said, his voice thicker as he rained more fire as we headed deeper into Fae territory, "we'll be helping our enemies kill ourselves. Besides, if you kill him, you're giving his son every reason to execute you as his first act of power. Let's finish what we came here to do."
"And what if he tries to attack me?"
"I'll chew him myself," Orealeus grunted, bringing down a falling building.
I nodded off to Florian and we continued flying.
It was a march of destruction, everyone got the memo the second they were out of the gooey veil and just spread out, burning the entire place up.
It already looked like a waste land so I told Zorath to stop wasting his breath.
Something about this all robbed me the wrong way.
I remembered my memories of this place from the volcano, it was like the before and after pictures of the Sahara desert.
Beautiful and green in one image, now desolate and black.
Dry.
Like the ground was being poisoned.
Considering how they'd poisoned us, I'm assuming someone did something wrong.
But gradually, we came to a town, it wasn't the capital, I could tell, but a small military base with their flags waving high above.
Maybe about two hundred buildings but it was all abandoned.
I wanted to go down and investigate but Zorath refused.
"We're burning everything."
"But what if we can change things? What if we just head over to the capital, raze it to the ground and give the commoners an opportunity to treat their dragons better and rejuvenate here?"
"Do you think you're the first saviour this realm has had?"
I frowned, "I'm not?"
"It's a cycle, Alira. You're the third. Break the cycle. You're the only one who can."
"But what happened to the others?"
"The first wasn't powerful enough," Orealeus supplied, "the second was too.. soft. We killed their parents and burned their lands, Draktar's father slept with the only surviving daughter of the King. Faeris was born and she fed him so much venom that we were thrown right back into this chaos. So, no survivors. Break the cycle, Alira. Else, Drakkonia will be wiped off."
I nodded, it's either me or them.
"Flo, please move all the way back and keep them from coming too close."
"Do you need to? We can deal with this, no need using up your energy for the minute things."
"There's a weird energy coming from there," I informed him.
"Are you sure?"
"Please, Flo. I don't want you to get hurt. I can't reverse this."
He nodded and Zephyr turned around, leaving us far enough.
The second Zorath's form made it to the first building, a fat arrow came out of nowhere.
"Alira!" Florian screamed as my dragon shifted to the side, evading the arrow.
I caught it and burned it the second my fingers clutched it and a growl escaped him.
"Freeze everywhere, now!" Orealeus yelled, and before he was done speaking, hundreds of them, arrows with red tips, were literally two seconds away from piercing my throat.
With a loud, panicked scream, "stop!"
It worked, thankfully but I didn't want to keep it for too long.
My chi was getting depleted and that wasn't good.
First I razed everything to ashes and then I reached for my power.
I closed my eyes and push the power forward, making sure it wasn't going forward.
There was only one soul in this direction and as the freeze began thawing, I could feel him moving.
No matter, I gave the will and command.
"Burn them all!"
I opened my eyes to a thick cloud of smoke but my mind still sensed that person running through it.
"Draco! Send your shadow that way!" I pointed to where he was running off to, smoke coating his lungs.
He prepared for fire but not for smoke.
Soon, a figure was being pulled into the air, his legs kicking hard.
Before I could do anything, his head was cracked in two and dropped.
I turned to thank him but I was met with Solvarion's dark eyes.
The King was sitting on top of him, his hands showing he'd just finished performing magic but he wasn't looking at me.
My heart thudded in my chest because what if he grabs my neck again?
Zorath didn't even pause, he flew past the smoke while the Dragon King flew behind us, burning up everything so harshly that my dragon had to fly higher to see.
Then they began going faster, and I pushed Zorath to the side.
I'm angry about him throwing me in prison but I'm also aware that I can't fight him. Or tell him where to shove it.
Especially not while we're at war.
Hopefully he gets the message and doesn't try to punish me now.
"Focus, daughter of Zhar," he suddenly said, not even looking at me, "you desperately want to win this war. Get it done without fail."
My heart fluttered, "Yes Your Majesty."
Are we cool now?
Eh, he's so bipolar.
Anyways, I focused as commanded and we were coming up to the capital.
And this is where all their armies were stationed.
The staggering numbers of machines made me swallow.
What if I pass out midway?
