Chapter 279 CHAPTER 279
Chapter 279 CHAPTER 279
The hangover everyone was complaining about cleared up for me a few minutes after I opened my eyes.
Then I left my friends after greeting them.
It was finally time to see what I could do with this power.
I went to swords training first, Florian was already waiting for me when I got to the caves. It was our best training spot because of how uneven it was.
Dangerous and exciting all at once.
It used to scare the fuck out of me before but now, I know my dragons will catch me no matter what.
"Hey Princess," he grinned as I approached, "we missed you last night."
"Did you?" I smirked, "I thought you were half dead or something."
"Oh wow, someone has learnt how to brag," he grinned, playing tricks with his sword.
"Me? I don't know what you're talking about. I'm just stating facts. You both passed out."
"Alright, you can beat me in bed, granted, but let's see what that power can do on the battlefield," he taunted, getting in position immediately.
My mind surged with excitement and I twirled my father's old sword back and forth, getting into position as well.
Knowing Florian's footwork, I focused on anticipating his tricks because he had a lot of those up his sleeve.
He moved first, fast and sharp like always, his confidence nearly making me doubt myself.
But this time, I saw everything clearly — the way his weight shifted, the slight twitch in his shoulder before he swung, the way his eyes flicked to my left side to fake me out. I saw his thoughts splayed out on his body as though he was saying them to me.
I blocked his strike easily and countered, my blade moving faster than any of us expected.
Florian’s eyes widened as he barely dodged, but he didn't pause. Probably thought it was a fluke.
My confidence increased and I pressed forward, forcing him back across the uneven ground.
I could hear the dragons poking their heads out to watch, and I wanted them to be proud of me.
Florian tried to regain control with one of his usual fancy spins, but I was already two steps ahead.
I swept low, forcing him to jump, then came up fast and caught his sword arm with the flat of my blade.
He stumbled but didn’t fall.
"Not bad," he said, breathing a little heavier. "But you promised to knock me out. At the moment, it just looks like you wanna kiss me."
"Oh I really do," I chuckled, "but that's my reward for beating your ass."
"Wow, someone is confident," he replied but wiped off every humour as I went back at it.
This time I didn’t just block or counter — I attacked. My mind created moves I ordinarily wouldn't have thought of, and my body flowed freely, bending at angles that he found difficult to dodge. Several times, I pushed him to his limits, making him fight faster.
All traces of a teacher gone, in its place was a warrior and he was still struggling.
Florian was fast, but he was struggling to keep up. Every time he tried to create distance, I closed it. Every time he tried to trick me, I was already there, playing with him.
I would have kicked that sword out of his hand a while ago, he knew how many times I'd come close to it, but why end the fun so early?
But this only made him a bit more aggressive.
Like a wounded lion, he lunged. I sidestepped and brought my sword up, the tip stopping just inches from his throat.
We both froze.
Florian stared at me, chest rising and falling. A slow grin spread across his face.
"Well, shit," he muttered, lowering his sword. "You weren’t kidding."
I lowered mine too, fighting the grin that was threatening to spread on my face.
"When will I get that kiss though?" I replied instead, walking towards him.
Before he could say anything, Zorath’s voice slid into my mind.
"Hey Troublemaker, ShadowRider said his rider is looking for you."
All my dragons are currently pissed at Draco and I don't know if to tell them to stand down or not.
We just had the most mind-blowing sex the other day, but I don't think that has settled anything between us.
I turned toward the edge of the clearing where he had he was flying playfully.
"Did it seem urgent?"
"A letter just arrived from the capital so he's gathering everyone. Zade is already headed home with him so he asked ShadowRider to get you guys."
I frowned. "Did he say why?"
"No, stop interrogating me and go. I'm curious too."
"I apologise, my King," I winked at him.
He made a sound in his throat and flew out towards his twin, who was tanning in the sun farther away.
I glanced at Florian, who was looking at me strangely.
"Draco is looking for us," I informed him, "there's a letter from the capital."
"That's strange, we're not heading to war for another month."
"Let's go, we won't know what is happening until we get there. Also, you know how impatient Draco gets."
"I don't mind, it always ends with him choking both of us."
I pinched his nose playfully and he lifted me off the ground and sped off, everything blurring past me.
Between him and Styx, I don't know who is faster but I'm always more comfortable wrapped around Florian like a Koala.
When we got inside, the two of them were upstairs and Florian rushed us up.
We opened the door and Draco was looking at an outfit he'd pulled from the closet.
A letter was on the bed.
The moment, Flo dropped me, I headed to it without saying anything to Draco.
He's literally the one who asked for us and we're here yet he won't even look up.
"It's the royal summon," I informed Florian, "we're to be at the Palace tonight. A war conference will be held first thing tomorrow morning. The Prince must come with us."
"Damn, things are heating up, aren't they?" He muttered and I swallowed harshly.
The reality dawned on me, we were no longer just training for this battle, it was almost time for it.
Hopefully, I'm finally powerful enough to make a difference.
