Chapter 47 47
DAVINA ELM.
Why was he being so cold suddenly? Just days ago, he was so sweet, as though we didn't have a master and servant relationship; he said all those sweet words to me, and made me so free around him. And now he was acting as though I were indeed a rival to him.
He knew damn well that being his slave didn't mean I wouldn't ever get entangled with a man that I wanted. If the man were a dragon, would he be thinking of unaliving him? I didn't even mention wanting a man, and he clearly saw how I reacted when River mentioned that I had a betrothed.
But, unaliving an innocent soul just because I was his slave; does it really make sense? Wasn't that brutality at its highest order?
He had a betrothed too, and despite how jealous I got most times, I still had never thought of Irian losing her life just because I didn't want her to have my master. I was always in delusion each time I recalled their relationship, and now he was taking mine so seriously, over a human I never set my eyes on and had no feelings for.
Never! I wouldn't let him hurt an innocent soul because of me. If he does, I would show him the other side of me, regardless of his position on this earth.
That human had no business with him, so he should just channel his anger and hostility towards me. I wasn't even supposed to be too shocked at his new behaviour, because I never heard of the Dragon Sovereign being kindhearted.
After a long time in my chamber, I set out to go meet with Ofelia, whom I hadn't seen since dawn. Orrifin could be in their farmland with the other male slaves, and I didn't know exactly where the farmland was.
When I found Ofelia, she was about to leave. “Where are you heading to?”
“Coming to see you and River. I just returned from doing laundry for some couples, and they paid me well. Would you join me to work for others and get paid too?” she asked, taking my hand into hers.
With how my expression changed, she patted my shoulder. “It's okay. I'll do all the work by myself and take care of you both.”
“But, how long are you going to do this? You should plan on returning to your family, Lia. I hate that you're stuck here because of me, when your family would certainly be waiting for you.” I said, sounding a bit harsh, because of how irritated I was.
But truth be said, I didn't understood why she would let go of life to suffer here with me.
She chuckled. “What are you even talking about? I could still make a living here.”
“Are you going to stay single forever? I'm over a hundred years old already, but you're a human and would get old with time, so you need to get married and have kids.” I advised, but she kept staring at me like I was blabbering. “Do humans get married to dragons?”
She arched her brows, "I'm not certain…”
“Then you could get married here. Or return to the human land so you could get married.”
“I am not interested in marriage,” she said plainly and looked away.
My brows furrowed. She wasn't interested in marriage?
“If not, then what's your relationship with Orrifin? I really thought you two had something together…” I asked curiously, and she shook her head. “Then have Perrin take you back…
“I'm going nowhere!” she screamed and stepped away from me, her face contorted. “What is it about you? Are you gonna arrange a marriage for me?”
I chuckled and nodded. “Yeah! River mentioned that my late parents arranged a marriage for me, so you could have the man, provided he isn't stupid. Unless he isn't a good man.”
“You're really something else. I should get married to your betrothed? As it is, you should be the one leaving this territory, and then I'd go with you,” she gestured and pulled her shoulders high. “Then, what is your plan? Dragon Sovereign isn't going to stop you from leaving, huh?”
I scowled because I really wanted to forget about it. “He's gonna kill him if I don't end the engagement. Yet he's engaged and doesn't want to end it.”
She nodded, “You must love this human already and want to…
“I don't!!” I blew out hot air. How was she saying that? Why should I love someone I hadn't set my eyes on for once? “Uhm, I'm going to join you to work and make money secretly. So don't tell anybody.”
“Unfortunately…” a masculine voice came from behind us, and we shuddered. “I already heard it and would tell my Sovereign.”
I bit my lower lip, not wanting to face Orrifin. I just hated how they used their powers, and the most annoying one was mind-reading, which I didn't like at all.
“Your attention is needed in the throne room, so please follow me,” he said again, and I pretended not to hear it at first. “I'm talking to you, Davina.”
I rolled my eyes and turned around, clearing my throat before making a pitiful face. “Orrifin, please don't tell my master. I'm not going to work,” but he ignored me and began leaving. I waved my hand at Ofelia before I recalled where he had just said I was summoned and halted midway. “Wait! Why are my summoned? My brother and I did nothing, so…
“Just follow me and listen for yourself.” He cut me short without even glancing back.
I turned to Ofelia, and she waved her hand at me. “Make sure not to show up. I don't want you to get hurt. If you do, I'm going to tell Dragon Sovereign to take you back himself.”
She chuckled and nodded, but I saw through her expression how worried she was.
Along the way, Orrifin waited until I reached closer to him, then he teleported us to the throne room. While we stood before the entrance, he asked me, “Is your friend returning to the human land? I heard you mention that?” but I shook my head, yet baffled as to why he was asking that. “If in any case she wants to return, I could take her back,” he added, and put up a smile.
“How's that funny? Are you using that opportunity to find the human male my parents arranged for me? I don't even know who he is, and I do not care, but I won't stand you or your Sovereign attacking him because of me.” I retorted, and he spared me a glance, yet pressed his lips into a thin line. “You had better keep being mute…”
He cleared his throat, as though holding back his laughter, and then we began walking into the room.
Sometimes, I even forget my position in this territory. But I also thought that being so calm would make them troll me so much, so it was good that I acted stubborn sometimes.
As I walked into the room and stood before the councils, they all chorused, with several rolls on their hands, their knees on the ground, and their foreheads touching the ground.
“Declare her execution, Dragon Sovereign!!”
“A fae female from a tainted clan doesn't deserve to survive here!!!”
I really didn't understand what was going on. A tainted clan? How did they know about my clan?
My eyes went straight to the throne, and there sat my master, looking so cold. His arms were resting on his thighs, and his fierce gaze went from one side of his council's gathering to the other.
I almost forgot how to breathe, because the councils were not less than twenty on each side. So if all those people are petitioning that I be executed, how would Dragon Sovereign judge it? Could it be that they found out why my clan was wiped out?
Then I was really doomed. River was so right that I shouldn't have exposed myself.
