Chapter 46 46
ZAUGUSTUS DYLAN.
Days had passed, yet I had been troubled. Each time I recall that fae male mention his sister having a human betrothed, I lose my appetite. I hadn't eaten well since then, nor had I had a good sleep.
I had also cancelled a few gatherings I was supposed to have with my councils because I couldn't concentrate further, yet the fae female slave doesn't even feel bothered.
It couldn't be that she felt that she had used me back then and had nothing to do with me any longer. Nope! I shook my head seriously, because such thinking should have nothing to do with the mind of such an innocent woman.
If only she wasn't my mate, I wasn't supposed to be bothered. She should have known of our soulmate bond if she had her powers, and her brother wouldn't even find out because it had nothing to do with him.
Oh gods! I couldn't be myself, recalling that some man out there, a weakling for that matter, was hoping to have my mate as his wife. How was I supposed to stand that? I wouldn't let that happen before my eyes.
I thought so hard about what to do, an action that would bring an end to the engagement. The human method of engagement shouldn't be as serious as the dragons'. It should be easy to end, but I thought such a man wouldn't let it happen, because he would be happy to have such a powerful fae as his wife.
Then I would have to act in a way that would scare him. Or, just kill him.
I just needed to put him in his place, and taking his life was the best. Besides, humans have no power over us, and it was worse for a fae to stay with a human than a dragon. Her parents must have done that because they thought she wouldn't ever leave the human land again.
Whereas I was keeping an eye on her, watching to see when her powers would explode, so I would know what to do with them.
If that human takes her, I would be at a loss.
That instant, I mindlinked Orrifin, and he showed up in my chamber. I did not stand from where I sat, drowning myself in liquor, but said to him, "I'd like you to take care of a human male who is trying to interfere between my slave and me. Would you be able to find him?”
He walked closer and squatted, “What should I do with him? What's his business with you?”
I scoffed and shifted the jar of liquor to the side. “You're going to read the minds of all the human males to find this man. He's betrothed to my slave, and I want him dead.”
“Yes, Sovereign!!” he bowed and stood not shocked by my command. Once he was about to leave, the door burst open.
I even had to jerk from the floor when I saw who it was, and for some weird reason, I had that fear swelling in me.
“Master…” she mentioned, her expression twisted.
I gritted my teeth. Why must she call me that?
“Did you have to go this length, huh?” she asked, her arms clamped backwards, while she took a few steps closer. “So tell me, what offence did the innocent man commit that you want him dead? You're doing this because you have greater power than him, right?”
I hissed and turned my back on him. I really thought there was a problem which she came to discuss.
“You should be taking a nap…” I said to her, and she pouted. “And, I have every right over anyone's life. Talk of someone who thinks he can own my slave.”
“But I was already engaged with him before you met me. Are you supposed to blame him?”
“And you love him to defend him. Isn't it?” I growled, and she stepped back. “Unless you're going to cancel the engagement, then I'll let him be. I own you now, so I'm not going to share you with any man.”
She scoffed and shook her head. “You're really going nuts.”
“What?” Orrifin exclaimed, his forehead wrinkled. “Did you just say…
“Do your worst! Who cares what you are?” she yelled, and I could smell her anger already. It was her anger that always stirred her power, and maybe pissing her off all the time would help fasten everything. “I chose to break the engagement or not, and you have no right to hurt an innocent person who had no business with you. Are you not supposed to discuss it with me?”
I drew my brows closer and began pacing towards her. “So, I am supposed to take permission from my fae slave before taking a step? When did such a thing begin?”
She pouted, looking so pissed.
“I just told you now the only option. That weakling will only live if you will break the engagement with him…”
I couldn't believe my ears, but she hissed out loud and folded her arms across her chest. “Really? Then you have to break up with Irian too. I'm certain I hadn't ever thought of killing her for being betrothed to my master. If you're going to start the law, then do it to the end. Break up with Irian first, and I wouldn't hesitate to do that to that human you call a weakling…”
She was challenging me, and I was supposed to be pissed at her…yet I wasn't.
For someone like her, I wasn't shocked how she was acting. And watching as her eyes glittered peacock green, I only scoffed and bit my lower lip.
“You don't tell me what to do, slave.” I said, and she narrowed her gaze. “I chose to break up with Irian or not, and you, who is serving me, must have nothing to do with any man out there until the end of your life. So tell that to your brother, and he had better not react, to avoid losing his life…” I said to her and turned around, returning to where I had been sitting.
Heaven bear me witness, I seriously wanted to end things with Irian. If breaking the engagement was so easy like in human land, I should have let her go for a long time.
When I caught her expression, she wore that pitiful and, as well, angry look. I could tell she was so disappointed with me for how I had just acted…and I honestly had no choice at the moment.
Once she left, I breathed out and scratched my head, then said to Orrifin, “I think you should leave the man. It really doesn't make sense when I'm still engaged with Irian…”
“But she's a slave to you, and it should have nothing to do with Irian. Aren't you supposed to have a queen even if you have a mistress?” He cleared his throat when I shot him a glare and then changed the topic. “Well, the chief guard just mindlinked me now. All councils are gathered in the throne room, and they are petitioning that your slave be executed for being the bloodline which was used to seal you.”
I sat up. “What do you mean? How did they know?”
He shook his head, “I can't really tell, Sovereign.”
Why did I feel like someone had looked into how I was released? Shouldn't they be glad and even bothered as to why the same bloodline also saved me? That's the major reason I let that female live up till now.
“You have to act, please. Or they are going to execute her.” Orrifin drew my attention once again, and I stood up. “Also, don't you think you should help awaken her powers very fast? Remember, if her powers are harmful to us, we would be in danger anytime soon.”
I nodded and put on my cloak, “I have to stop her execution first…”
