Chapter 93 - Controversy
“You have not changed a bit,” Dan said. The smile on his face was dazzling.
“Magic keeps me ever young.” She grinned cheerfully.
The majority of witches use their powers to retain their younger age. That was the only way they could live like immortals just like the vampires and other supernatural entities.
“You can say that again,” said Dan as he gently pulled Mary closer to him. “This is the love of my life, Mary Anderson. She’s a gypsy and we are here for help.”
“She’s pretty.” Kate broke into a soft smile, fixing her eyes on Mary. “You must have a good taste.”
“I sure do,” Dan grinned.
“So, this help you seek. What is it?”

Kate Charles was a longtime friend of Dan Dracula who was rescued from a vicious werewolf by Dan. She was doing a moon spell under the full moon when a fully transformed werewolf emerged from the treacherous darkness and pounced on her.
As the werewolf was about to drive its claws and fangs into her fragile skin, Dan pulled him out from her and buried his claws into the wolf. When he pulled out his hand, the heart came with it.
He turned toward Kate and offered him the other hand to help her up. “I am Dan Dracula, a hybrid.” He introduced himself.
“Thanks, for saving me but I don’t keep friends with your kind,” she shoved Dan’s hand and helped herself up.
She turned to leave; Dan grabbed her harm and whispered into her ear, “It’s not safe. Werewolves are out there. It’s the full moon. Let me help you.”

Dan cleared his throat and opened his mouth to speak. “Mary needs to learn how to master and control her powers. The full moon is upon us tonight and I need her to do a spell for me.”
Kate giggled. “You still haven’t given up on your guest to alter the curse of the moon, have you?”
She was amongst the first few witches Dan approached for help on that but she refused with the claim that her coven would have her magic powers stripped out if she dared do the spell that would alter the curse of the moon. Rah coven is a group of powerful witches who don’t dare alter the cause of nature. They are among the few covens that protect the natural entities instead of aiding the supernatural entities to destroy that which they serve as protectors.
“You know I don’t easily give up,” Dan sneered. “This is my life and I must live up to it.”
“Alright then,” she said. “I will help her but not you. You know my coven is always watching. So if you don’t mind, give us space to begin.”
“How long will it take?” Dan narrowed his eyes nervously.
“You don’t rush magic. Give us all the time we need.”
“Fine, I will be outside, keeping watch.” He turned to Mary and kissed her on the forehead. “It will be fine.”
“I know,” she said but not too sure if things would be fine just like he had said. “I love you, Dan.”
Dan’s cheeks flushed with a broad smile on hearing her say she loved him. “I love you too.”
“Alright, lover birds,” Kate said, interrupting their moments. “We need to start now.”
After Dan saves her from the werewolves and walks her back home, she feels indebted to him. In certain magic that didn’t go against her coven rules, she will oblige to help. Just like she is obliged to help Mary; a gypsy takes hold of her powers and keeps them under control. These are the kinds of things she could help with and not alter the curse of the moon.
Dan stepped outside and slowly shut the glass door behind him. He walked back to his car.

The old mansion.
The door creaked open as Mrs. Willie stepped into the room. She made haste toward Dean and Jasmine who were still lying, weak on the bed.
“The water supply was poisoned,” she said.
Dean tried to sit up but he was too weak to even lift a finger. Each second the werewolf venom stays in his system, the weaker he gets.
“What?” he managed to speak. “How did this happen?”
“My best guess is your brother knew you were in town and sent his boys to do his dirty work for him.”
“Is this the only logical explanation you have?” Jasmine squeezes out barely. “Can you find those who did this and bring them to us?”
“Don’t worry, I will find these werewolves that did this,” Mrs. Willie assured. “But first, I have to try a spell to extract the venom from you. We must continue with our plans to stop your brother.”
“That’s what I have been waiting to hear,” Dean said. “The full moon is upon us and we must…” he paused and started coughing repeatedly.
After a fit of coughing to clear irritation in his throat, he continued speaking like one almost running out of breath. “If he breaks the curse of the moon, that’s over for the vampires. We will be screwed.”
He could relate to what he’s going through now. No other vampire that is not one of the Dracula’s descendant could survive what’s happening to him and Jasmine at the moment. The fate of the vampires will be sealed in the hands of the werewolves if the curse is altered. Every bite from a werewolf will kill the vampires slowly and painfully.
As Mrs. Willie went on her way to get her spell book, Jasmine rolled toward Dean. Her weak eyes hardened with hate. “Dan,” she muttered as her eyes turned red.
She struggled to thrust her hand on Dean. When she succeeded, she continued to fight to strangle Dean. “I will kill you, Dan…” She’s mistaken Dean to be Dan. Her hallucination is just kicking in.
Dean barely fights back, choking. “What… are… you doing?” he barely said. His face is beginning to turn red. He tried to move Jasmine’s hand but the more he tried, the more her grip was tightened.
