Chapter 106 – Dying Moment

Dean broke out in laughter. He lifted his face toward Bruce and said in a scoffing manner “You want me to hand you the dagger that could hurt one of my families?” he smiled mischievously. “That’s not going to happen.”

“I know you don’t trust werewolves but trust the clandestine wolves.” Bruce tried to buy his way to Dean’s heart. “We know you and your sister are desperately trying to get rid of Dan. We can help you.”

“We don’t need your help!” Dean scowled at him.

“Look at it this way, Dean,” Bruce said. He smiled softly at Dean as he opened his mouth to speak. “We can stake his heart with the daemon dagger and lock him up in one of our secured facilities. No one could be able to breach and I can assure you that Dan will be there forever without hurting anyone or instigating the werewolves against the vampires.”

The clandestine wolves are powerful and a rich sect. Most of them hold high places in the world as leaders and her good in what they do. Part of their rules is to make sure the humans are not caught in the cross fire between the supernatural entities. However, some rogue government around the world in certain cases would hire the clandestine wolves as assassin to eliminate their political threats. They have resources at their disposal but the only resources they don’t have is the one that could put an end to Dan.

Dean giggled and turned away from Bruce. “Trusting a werewolf is like trusting Dan.” He swirled casting a searing gaze at Bruce. “I can’t trust werewolves no matter what you have in mind.”

“Perhaps, you can have this conversation with your sister and know what she has to say.” Bruce walked up to Dean, pulling out his business card and dropping it at the table next to Dean. “In case you change your mind, you know what to do.”

He turned and started walking toward the door as Dean watched with mixed feelings.

His heart raced with thoughts on whether to accept the offer or not. He didn’t know what to do but decided to wait for Jasmine for her own opinion when she comes back from her search with Rick and Evelyn.

*** OUTSIDE THE VEIL, THE WORLD OF THE DEAD ***

“If you spare me, I will tell you. I don’t want to burn in a stake forever. Please, spare me. At least give me a second chance. I beg you!”

She tried casting her spell but noticed someone was blocking her spell. Ahead of the stake is a hooded creature seated in a mediation position. It’s clear he had been chanting some spells to block Mary’s spell.

No one is willing to help her. Not even the helpless troll tied on the next stake. He too continues to beg to be spared but the bearded creature is showing no pity to any of them.

They are tied to a stake in the middle of a cobbled road—her first time being outside the veil. ‘Perhaps this is the consequences my grams warned me about.’ Being inside the veil would have been better and not outside the boundary of the living and the dead itself.

It all seemed too horrifying to be true. But this is really happening to her. First, she died in the hands of a werewolf. She felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, reminding her how she died. Her whole body ached from the head to her toes and was bleeding all over the place. Her worst fear came to her when she realized this wasn’t a nightmare, but his grim reality now in the land of the dead. She has crossed from the veil into the land of the dead which will now be impossible for her to return.

The creatures glared at her. Their torches are ready to set her ablaze. She was not pitied by any one of the creatures and so was the troll tied next to her.

“In the glory of the Warlocks I set you ablaze to burn forever in the flames of my wrath!”

The voices of the horses disrupted Mary’s thoughts as she stared into the face of second death after her first death in the land of the living. She realized she’s going to keep burning and burning over and over again with no one to quench the fire.

Her cries for mercy were in vain. It’s clear now that she must be punished for altering the curse of the moon which have affected the veil and the land of the dead. There was no sense of guilt or even pity in the warlock’s red eyes.

Mary’s fate was sealed. Her struggles are in vain, writhing in agony, desperately trying to free herself from the stake.

The bearded creature sheathed his sword and took the flaming torch in his right hand. With the ruthless look in his eyes, he lowered the torch, bringing it close to the pile of leaves and firewood under Mary’s feet.

The End.
