Chapter 99 - The Chase
Standing over Dan, Jasmine narrowed her eyes on him. “The coffin is going to be more comfortable this time.”
She bends, bringing the daemon dagger toward Dan’s chest.
Mary lets out a violent scream that comes with a sonic wave, taking out everyone around her. Including Dean that has held her for long. She flew at the speed of sound and stood beside Scott. She scans Scott’s body for any sign of life in him. When she was done with inspecting Scott and confirming he was alive, she flew toward Dan.
“Are you all right?” she asked.
“I will after I kill her.” His eyes narrowed toward Mrs. Willie. She’s trying to get back to her feet. Dan couldn’t help but fly in a fit of rage.
He sprang back to his feet, moving faster than the eye could see. Before Mrs. Willie could turn around, Dan’s hand transformed into a hairy beastly hand of beast. He buried his claws into Mrs. Willie and ripped her heart out.
Her limb went limp as her lifeless body slumped to the ground.
“No!” Dean cried out. He turned his focus toward Dan and stared with hostility.
When he attempted throwing a step toward Dan, Mary let out a sonic scream and slammed Dean into an oak tree. The scram was so powerful that it came with a wind wave.
Scott had regained his consciousness. He sat up with a wide mouth and wide eyes gazing at her daughter. This isn’t the baby girl he knew months ago before leaving for school. She’s more powerful than he could ever imagine.
“Mary!” Evelyn’s voice called out from a distance.
“Mary!” Matt called out too.
They had taken on the werewolves with the help of Rah and his coven. But their heart is not yet at peace without seeing Mary.
Mary was still levitating in the air when she heard her Mon and uncle yell her name. She turned toward the direction and slowly descended.
Her attention has been divided. She didn’t see or hear Jasmine sneaking up on her from behind to finish what they started.
As she raised the daemon dagger to strike Mary, Scott moved faster than the eye could see. From behind, he snapped Jasmine’s neck.
Mary flicked. Her eyes widened with a shocking look crossing her face.
“You are all right, yes?” Scott inquired.
She gently nods her head.
Tears rolled down Scott’s eyes. It was the tears of joy. He threw his arms around her. “I thought we would never see you again.”
Evelyn and her younger brother, Matt rushed in, interrupting the moment. “You found her,” Evelyn said as her cheeks flushed with excitement.
“Mom?” Mary turned toward Evelyn. She couldn’t believe they left New Orleans to find her. She ran toward her and hugged her closely to herself.
Dan approaches but Scott warns him to stand down or face the wrath of his family.
“There’s nothing to worry about, Dad,” Mary spoke in Dan’s defense. “He’s my boyfriend.”
“Your what?” Matt, Evelyn, and Scott all screamed at once. They are in shock hearing Mary refer to Dan as her boyfriend.
“This is absurd!” Evelyn blurted. She furrows her brows and lashes out the more. “Are you aware of who he is and what he did to your Dad and me?”
“I know,” Mary said. “I saw everything.”
“Then you know you can’t date him,” Scott said. “He’s even 1020 years older than you!”
“I know that!”
“Then why hanging out with him?”
“Come on, Dad,” she said. “This is the 21st century and I can date anyone I choose to.”
“No!” Evelyn cuts in. “Not everyone. Look what he made you do. You altered the curse of the moon. You know that’s a death sentence to your father because the werewolves will…”
“About that Mrs. Anderson,” Dan interrupted. He took a few steps closer. “I assure you no werewolf will ever…”
“And who invited you into this conversation?” Scott blurted, pushing Dan’s words back to his throat. “This is family’s conversation and you are no family of ours.”
“No, Dad,” said Mary. She switched her focus on Scott and continued. “He’s family and I will spend the rest of my life with him.”
“That’s not gonna happen!” Scott yelled. He tried to calm himself down but the more he tried, the angrier he became. “We are leaving, now!”
“I am not going anywhere with you,” Mary said, folding her arms across her chest. She stepped away from them and moved toward Dan. She stood by him and continued. “I am staying with him and you should respect my decision.”
“Respect what?” Scott lashed out. His eyes hardened and narrowed into slits. He can’t believe his daughter is picking sides with the very ruthless hybrid that has caused nothing but misery to his family. “You are leaving to us to New Orleans. Don’t make me drag you because I will.”
“You and Mom kept secrets from me and now you want me to follow you to the den of secrets? That’s not gonna happen.”
The more she fumes, the smaller Mary makes herself look. Her mind is made up and she’s not leaving with them.
“Look, Mary…” Matt spoke up. “You have to listen to your parents. That dude is bad news. Please come with us.”
“Uncle Matt, please stare out of this.” She furrows her brows and scowled at Matt. “My decision should be respected.”
Scott’s face contorted with rage. He stepped toward Dan, glaring at him. Before he could react, Dan shoved him backward, screaming, “Don’t come any closer.”
He couldn’t let this slide. He feels like taking on Dan but that’s suicide taking up on a member of the Dracula’s descendant . Evelyn grabbed him from behind and whispered. “Please, honey, let’s leave.”
“What?” Scott gaped at her with surprise. “You want us to leave our daughter with him?”
As Evelyn was about to answer, a whoosh pushed her words back.
Their attention moved away from one another, in search of who it might be.
“Oh, no!” Dan’s eyes narrowed ahead. “They are gone!”
There’s no sign of Dean and Jasmine—neither is there any sign of Mrs. Willie’s corpse. He wasn’t done with them. He wanted them to pay for what they did and now they’re no more.
A pitched howl escaped from the treacherous darkness. The howl was followed by a few more and then barking. Each second that passed by, it drew more closely.
