Chapter 98

Chapter 98

She hesitated for a moment but still answered truthfully. However, Kenna's expression turned a bit strange upon hearing that name.

Kenna gave Margaret a deep look, then quickly masked her surprise.

Margaret was looking down and eating at that moment, so she didn't notice Kenna's odd expression.

After dinner, Margaret wanted to help with the dishes, but Kenna didn't agree.

Before dinner, Kenna had already asked Margaret to help wash the vegetables. As a guest visiting for the first time, Margaret shouldn't be doing these chores.

Margaret sat on the sofa and heard Kenna, who was walking towards the kitchen, say, "If you feel bored, you can go outside for a walk."

Although Kenna had already taken Margaret for a walk around the garden earlier, it was now dusk, and the setting sun gave the scenery a different charm.

Margaret stepped out of the room and squatted down to gently smell the flowers in front of her, illuminated by the fiery clouds in the sky.

Just as Margaret was concentrating on identifying the type of flower, she heard some movement in the nearby bushes.

The last time she was at Whispering Pines Retreat, she had seen a black snake in similar bushes, so she was a bit scared and tense, recalling that unpleasant memory.

Suddenly, a small calico kitten jumped out of the bushes, shaking its fur.

The kitten was small but had long fur. It was a long-haired cat with different colored eyes—one blue and one yellow. Margaret had never seen such a beautiful kitten before.

She looked at the kitten with a gentle expression and reached out her hand, "Come here."

She wanted to pet the kitten's fur because just looking at it felt comforting.

The kitten didn't seem afraid of people and didn't run away upon seeing Margaret. Instead, it sat a short distance away, watching her as if trying to figure out her intentions.

Seeing her extend her hand, the kitten cautiously lifted its paw and slowly walked towards Margaret.

Margaret's heart was racing, and she didn't dare make any sudden movements. The thought of soon being able to pet the kitten's soft fur brought a smile to her face.

Kenna came out of the kitchen, having finished cleaning up.

She stood next to Leonard and saw Margaret squatting outside the floor-to-ceiling window, playing with the kitten.

She took a deep breath, "I quite like her. You two being together isn't bad."

Leonard seemed surprised that his cousin would say such a thing.

Kenna continued, looking at Margaret, "She's very gentle and has a good personality. Although she's a bit clumsy at times, she means well. Leonard, since the past is behind you, you should look forward. This marriage isn't a bad thing for you. I hope you find happiness."

Leonard's gaze deepened as he looked at Margaret after hearing this. He didn't say anything, but his eyes never left her.

The kitten approached Margaret's hand, and she petted its head, creating a harmonious scene in the garden.

After the sun had completely set, Margaret and Leonard drove home. Kenna had wanted them to stay the night, but they had to work the next day, so staying on the mountain wasn't convenient.

Standing at the door, Margaret raised her hand to say goodbye to Kenna.

"Goodbye, Kenna. Thank you for your hospitality today, and I'm sorry for the misunderstanding."

Margaret apologized once again for her earlier clumsiness, and Kenna responded with a gentle smile.

"I should be thanking you for coming up to keep me company. If you have time in the future, feel free to visit me anytime."

This surprised Margaret. Leonard had told her that Kenna didn't like noisy environments, but now she was inviting her to visit again.

In the car, the road down the mountain was a bit winding. Margaret sat in the passenger seat and turned to look at Leonard, who was focused on driving.

"Has Kenna always lived alone on the mountain?"

Leonard nodded. He had known that Kenna had been living there for many years, even when he was abroad.

"Has she always been single, never dating or getting married?"

Leonard shook his head.

In his memory, he had never seen Kenna interact much with any men. Perhaps living alone on the mountain made her uninterested in such matters.

But Kenna could take care of herself, so he wasn't too worried about her being alone.

After hearing this, Margaret leaned back in her seat and blinked, "Today was a big misunderstanding. Luckily, Kenna has a good temperament and didn't hold it against me. Next time, make sure to tell me earlier."

Leonard glanced at her from the corner of his eye, "Got it."

Margaret wasn't actually foolish, so she could tell that Kenna was quite satisfied with her today.

In other words, Kenna approved of her as Leonard's sister-in-law.

"What do you think Kenna's impression of me is?"

Margaret asked this on purpose because she knew that Kenna must have talked to Leonard alone while she was in the garden.

Leonard pursed his lips, "She likes you."

Hearing this, Margaret smiled. Gaining the support of Leonard's family was definitely a good thing for their marriage.

Meeting Kenna today made Margaret consider asking Leonard about his family. She didn't want any more misunderstandings like today.

Back home, Margaret took a shower and immediately climbed into bed. She had to work the next day, so she needed to sleep early.

When Leonard came in, she was sitting on the bed applying body lotion. The light scent reached Leonard's nose, making him feel a sense of pleasure.

Seeing him come in, Margaret quickly put down the body lotion, "Do you think the scent is too strong?"

Leonard shook his head, "It's nice."

If he wasn't mistaken, it was a light jasmine scent, which suited her temperament and was different from other strong-smelling body lotions.

Margaret asked because she was worried the scent might be too strong for him. In her experience, boys didn't seem to like these things.

When she was with Howard, even though they never shared a bed, he would complain about the strong scent of her hand cream in winter, so she had stopped using it.
