Chapter 97

Chapter 97

Margaret lowered her stance as she entered, "Kenna, is there anything I can help with?"

Kenna wasn't too surprised to see her come in, "You can help me wash the vegetables."

She knew that if she didn't let Margaret do something, Margaret would feel even more uncomfortable, so she gave her a simple task.

Standing in front of the faucet, Margaret had her back to Kenna and felt a bit awkward.

"Kenna, I really didn't mean what happened earlier."

Kenna chuckled, "I know. It shows that you care a lot about my brother. If you didn't like him, you wouldn't be upset thinking he was having an affair."

Margaret didn't expect her to analyze the situation from this angle.

She had been too angry earlier to think about it this way. All she could think about was that Leonard didn't respect her.

But now, hearing Kenna's words, she felt they made a lot of sense.

If she didn't care about Leonard, she wouldn't be angry. It was like if Howard stood in front of her now and told her he was marrying Stella, she wouldn't feel a thing.

"I actually support your marriage. He's been living alone for too long and needs someone to be with him."

Hearing this, Margaret pressed her lips together.

"Don't you think we're moving too fast?"

Kenna shook her head, "As long as two people are sure about each other, there's no such thing as too fast or too slow."

Marriage isn't something that can be explained by speed. Some people are together for years and still break up, while others can get married after knowing each other for a week and stay together for life. It's not something time can decide.

Margaret was very meticulous while washing the vegetables, cleaning every bit of dirt off. Kenna, standing beside her, occasionally glanced at her and became more satisfied with her attention to detail.

When she first heard about Leonard getting married, she was a bit surprised. After all, the past events were real, and she thought Leonard might be with Margaret because of some emotional trigger. But now she realized she was wrong.

Even when Margaret thought she was Leonard's mistress, she didn't say anything insulting but instead pointed out that such behavior was immoral.

So it was clear that Margaret was a very upright and kind person, which made Kenna very pleased.

The meal Kenna was preparing needed to be steamed for a while, so after they finished with the vegetables, she took Margaret out of the kitchen.

Leonard was sitting outside, video chatting with his colleagues from the hospital, discussing work-related matters.

Margaret didn't want to disturb him and was about to sit down and do her own thing when Kenna linked arms with her.

"It's your first time here. Let me show you around. This villa is quite big."

Margaret was a bit surprised by Kenna's enthusiasm, but since she had nothing else to do, she decided to go along and improve her relationship with Kenna. It wouldn't hurt.

She smiled and followed Kenna.

The villa had a huge garden filled with mildly fragrant flowers.

Margaret had never seen anyone manage a garden so well. The different colored flowers were beautifully arranged.

She realized Kenna had a strong sense of aesthetics.

"Kenna, do you believe in Jesus?"

Kenna shook her head, "I don't have any religious beliefs. I just like a quiet environment and don't enjoy too much noise."

Because of this, she liked Margaret's personality, which wasn't loud and boisterous but had the calmness of a mature woman.

The garden's fragrance relaxed Margaret.

During dinner, everyone was in a good mood. Although Margaret wasn't a vegetarian, she found the food quite tasty.

She looked at Kenna across the table and squinted, "Kenna, how long have you been a vegetarian?"

Kenna was taken aback. She couldn't remember how many years she had lived alone on this mountain, but she didn't feel lonely, just content.

A life without disturbances was quite pleasant, and she could do whatever she wanted.

"A few years, I guess."

Hearing this, Margaret nodded and continued eating. Kenna was a bit worried she might not like the food.

"Do you find the taste too bland? I'm sorry, I haven't cooked meat dishes in a long time. I thought Leonard was coming alone, so I didn't prepare anything else."

Her voice was gentle and intellectual, making Margaret realize how childish she seemed in comparison.

She had thought dressing like a successful woman would give her an edge, but in front of Kenna, she felt immature. Fortunately, Kenna wasn't a rival but Leonard's cousin.

"No, I think it's delicious. It's hard to find such tasty vegetarian food in the city."

Margaret's words were partly flattery but also sincere. She thought she might start cooking more vegetarian dishes when she got back.

In the hot weather, eating vegetarian food occasionally was easier to digest.

"I haven't asked about your family."

Kenna initiated the conversation, wanting to know more about Margaret.

But Margaret's expression changed slightly. She wasn't sure if Kenna would look down on her family situation.

"My parents have passed away. I used to live with my uncle and aunt, but I moved out about a year ago. Don't worry, Kenna, I have my own house, under my name, so I don't have much contact with my uncle's family now."

Margaret knew Kenna might be worried that she would still live with her uncle's family after getting married and not have her own home.

Kenna realized Margaret misunderstood her intentions. She didn't look down on her; she just wanted to know more about her.

"What are your uncle and aunt's names?"

Margaret was surprised that she asked for their names.
