CHAPTER 42: QUEEN UNLEASHED

CHAPTER 42: QUEEN UNLEASHED
Maya’s POV

“You are doomed, Maya,” Quinn smirked, her aura turning a thousand times darker in contrast to her glowing pinkish-white skin.

I chuckled to her utter surprise and cupped her face, “You fell into my trap, Luna Quinn. You are the one who is doomed.”

Quinn startled for a moment before her bravado came back. She pushed away my hand from her face and laughed sarcastically, “Me? Doomed? Look around you, Maya. No one can save you!”

“Your witch army can heal your face and bring back your wolf but they just started a ticking bomb in your body, Quinn.”

“What do you mean?” Quinn sharply asked.

“Haven’t you heard – a life for a life when it comes to forbidden arts? Someone you love the most shall be claimed by the spell for bringing back your wolf. And you tried to heal a part of your body – your face to be precise. I am sure there will be another part that shall be damaged in return,” I answered.

“You are lying,” Quinn spoke through clenched teeth. “They did not use the forbidden arts.”

I rolled my eyes and walked amidst the dozen or so powerful witch army boldly. Confidence was the key. They instantly parted to make way for me. I walked till the last rank and suddenly pulled the chief beside me while the rest of the witches parted into two columns.

Quinn narrowed her eyes, suspiciously, turning towards us. “What are you doing, Maya?”

“Why don’t you ask the chief directly which spell did she do on you,” I replied, inching away from the witch army slowly.

“Is it true?” Quinn asked the Chief Witch, her voice suddenly turning dangerous, her anger barely controlled.

“No, my Lady! She is lying! We did not use the forbidden arts! It is illegal to use those spells,” the Chief trembled.

“After a forbidden arts spell, the colour of the witch’s blood turns dark – almost purple. Why don’t you check her pulse point? I have been a doctor for so many years and I have treated witches who used forbidden arts. I know that a small slit to the pulse point can reveal the truth,” I calmly replied.

Quinn studied me carefully and when she seemed convinced with whatever expression on my face, the chief witch shouted, “No, my Lady! You can not do that! It will kill me and my arm– … glurg!”

The chief witch looked down at the dagger pierced into her neck, aghast before she fell on her knees and sputtered out dark, bubbling purple liquid.

Quinn screamed on the sight of the purple-red blood while her personal witch army suddenly dropped dead. I had noticed their blood connection to the chief but it was Leo who had taught me that a witch’s pulse point was the strongest but most sensitive and to treat my injured witch patients carefully. The darker the colour of the blood, the stronger the witch and her connection to her fledglings. Who knew such a small detail could save my life today.

I inwardly smiled. Quinn singlehandedly killed Leo’s personal army of the strongest of witches and now she thought that she was going to die.

“What did you do?” Leo roared from behind while the council gathered around us in the secluded part of the forest.

“Maya killed them!” Quinn cried out.

Zane rolled his eyes and replied, “Your dagger is sticking into her neck and we saw you flinging it from that hill top,” he pointed to the one near the mouth of the waterfall where lunch was held for all dignitaries.

Quinn’s luck was turning for the worst. She had lured me to the only place where everyone was a witness to her grave crime.

“You better explain yourself quickly,” Leo thundered and Quinn fell near his feet, sobbing and incoherently blaming the witches for using forbidden arts on her.

I tuned her out and walked away from the scene. I had done my deed. Now it was up to Leo and the council to handle the situation. With each passing day, the fall of the mighty Luna was nearer. I walked towards the packhouse, only to be pulled behind a tree. I came face to face with a fuming Lycan King.

“Hey, bab – oomph!” I tried to wriggle free from the most dangerous beast as he lay a torrent of angry kisses on my lips, stealing my air. He bit, mauled and duelled with my lips as if declaring war. His face repeatedly angled in every way possible to deepen his kisses.

“You should be punished!” Sebastian fumed when I finally managed to push him away. Tears glistened over my eyes while my chest heaved heavily, taking in huge gulps of air through my bloody lips.

“What is wrong with you?” I demanded, wiping my lips.

“What is wrong with me? I should be asking what is wrong with you? Did I not tell you that your kindness could kill you one day. You knew Quinn was luring you away to kill you, yet you followed her! What would have happened if she managed to finish you off in that enchanted piece of land, hmm?” Sebastian’s sanity was hanging by a thread. Suddenly, all anger turned into defeat and his eyes turned suspiciously shiny. “Do you realize I would have died of heartbreak if anything happened to you? And what about our kids, did you not think about them even once?”

“It is precisely because of them that I ran towards the forest, thinking about how a mother could not stay away from her kids. One of the witches told me that her child was dying from a snake bite so I followed her. However, I was not foolish enough to go alone. I had Zane’s soldiers follow me and attack on my command. I am not leaving you or the kids but act like this once more and I will leave you. Now excuse me but I need space from you till I can forgive you for what you just did,” I replied and walked away.

However, Sebastian pulled me by my arm and spun me back before capturing my lips in a deep and long kiss. His lips softly moulded with mine while he gently soothed my stinging, bloody lips with his tongue. His palms cupped my face while he treated me like a delicate flower.

When the lycan finally had his fill and healed me, he pressed his forehead against mine, his warm palms still cupping my cheeks.

“I am sorry. I was worried. Please don’t do that again. I almost killed those witches and Quinn with my bare hands if you hadn’t stopped me,” he brokenly said, reminding me of my mindlink order to all warriors and Sebastian to stay where they were and not attack when the witch army surrounded me. “Please forgive me? I can’t stay away from you, especially here.”

“Sebastian,” I moved away from him, forcing away his hands from me. “You need to have faith on me. I am a Queen, mate and mother. I know better than to endanger my life when there are many banking on me.”
