CHAPTER 41: LUNA GONE CRAZY

CHAPTER 41: LUNA GONE CRAZY
Maya’s POV

“Don’t go, love,”  Sebastian groggily mumbled, trying to pull me back beneath him. I slipped out of his arms, only to be caged under his leg.

“Sebastian,” I chided the man.

“Don’t leave… please. I need your love… and your warmth,” he murmured, eyes still closed.

“I am not leaving but you are. Now make it quick, Mr Thunderstorm,” I replied and he huffed when his robes smacked straight on his face.

“You are terrible,” he complained.

“Are you complaining about me… to me?”

“No, my love. I just feel like a cheap one-night stand, getting booted out of your bed at…goddess above, at three in the morning. Not fair!” he pouted.

I stared at the fully grown man in my bed with a huge pout on his face incredulously. This was the same fearsome Lycan King who ruled nations. No wonder my children got away with everything scot-free. This man was a terrible influence on my kids.

“Those pouty lips and tragic eyes don’t work on me anymore, Sebastian, thanks to your kids who have used this trick on me multiple times. Now, you better leave before you are discovered here,” I replied and collected all the royal lycan’s things that lay unceremoniously on the floor. “Also, don’t forget to take your payment,” I added.

“Payment?” the Lycan King challenged, his voice turning low and dangerous as he circled his arms around my waist. He nipped at my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. The man behind me had pressed himself completely and he was stark nked as the day as he was born. This man had no shame. He was hung like a horse and he knew it. “I know the Queen is generous and she will pay me plenty. I am not easy to afford,” he confidently declared, nuzzling his lips in the crook of my neck. His breath ghosted over my skin. “Right, my Queen?” he rasped.

“No, you were incredibly cheap,” I replied and he gasped in mock horror.

“No, that is not possible,” the man-kid was pouting again behind me.

“Yes, it is. You sold yourself just for my kisses,” I answered and the gorgeous as sin man deeply chuckled before lifting me suddenly in his arms.

“Those kisses are not cheap. Believe me,” the smooth talker replied and carried me to the shower to claim his payment and more.

“No bonuses,” I warned and Sebastian burst out laughing as steam started to swirl around us in the shower cubicle.

“Then I’ll just have to earn them,” he replied—and he did.

The glass fogged over, leaving only the outline of my hands visible against the cubicle… and the unmistakable sound of my broken moans blending with the rhythm of falling water.

“Esteemed Council,” Leo began strongly, voice steady, unlike his weak, kneed groin. The man was a relentless harasser who deserved the kick like the peace I should have deserved during breakfast. “We have reason to believe that the Queen’s free medical camps are a trick to lure unsuspecting teens into doing drugs and selling them for her. Now, we should investigate if the King is party to the crime or not,” he cleverly phrased the accusation as if it was given that I was guilty of the crime.

“Are you confused with Queen Maya’s medical camps or Luna Quinn’s nefarious medical camps, Alpha? And if you were indeed pointing out to Luna Quinn’s unauthorized medical check-up camps, then are you implying that she is the Queen and you are the “King” whom we should investigate?” Council Member Celine cut in sharply. “Calling yourself ‘King’ is treason,” she seethed. Celine was handling the drug trafficking cases personally and it seemed Leo was blissfully unaware of her covet operations.

Was this my chance to get back my home that my father and siblings paid with their lives?

“I am always clear with my language and words, Council Member Celine,” Leo smiled, the thick-skinned man unaffected by the council member’s razor-sharp words. “I request the Council to hear the case with an open mind. I am talking about Her Highness here. Queen Maya Veneto committed th- … ”

“You mean Queen Maya Thunderstorm,” came a voice from the back of the room and everyone got up, their heads bowing.

“Yes, Your Majesty. I meant her but everyone gets it. In any case, she might become a Maxwell, you never know. All I am saying that it is better to stick to neutral maiden names and not treat her like property,” Leo taunted, hinting on taking me from the King.

Sebastian smirked and stepped closer in Leo’s space.

Leo’s back tensed but his face remained stoic.

“Alpha Leo, you are such a coward,” Sebastian’s words hit the mark as Leo’s face flushed with anger. An Alpha could withstand any derogatory term except being called out a coward. “Why go conservative with the Queen’s name? She will never punish you for GIVING her MY last name. Instead, she should be grateful to you,” he added and Leo’s ears and nostrils steamed with invisible smoke.

Leo understood Sebastian’s jab. If he hadn’t rejected me, Sebastian would not have got me.

“You are treating her like discarded property,” Leo twisted Sebastian’s words.

“I am not you, Leo,” Sebastian calmly replied and even Leo’s hair at the back rose at the low, dangerous tone. I am treating her like a precious gift, not a discarded property. Please keep your filthy thoughts to yourself,” Sebastian added, his anger barely controlled now.

The two alpha men were standing chest-to-chest, eyes unblinking and fists curled. They were ready to duke it out right here and then, and I was not going to allow Sebastian to endanger his position over a vile man like Leo.

“You trespassed my property last night and you know it,” Leo hissed near Sebastian’s ear.

“And yet you have no proof while I claimed a jewel right beneath your nose,” Sebastian jibed, getting on Leo’s nerves. “Also, don’t forget everything you own is mine. Your land, your life and your ex-mate.”

“She is MINE. She belongs to me,” Leo spoke through clenched teeth. Suddenly, he smiled. “I will always be her first love. And last,” he taunted. Talk about delusional.

However, this was my chance to change the tide.

Before Sebastian could reply, I took Leo’s hand in mine and looked up at him earnestly, tears shining through my eyes.

“Alpha Leo,” I softly called out and Sebastian’s eyes narrowed. I chuckled inwardly. This man got jealous so easily. Like a puppy not given attention. On the hand, Leo was vibrating with excitement. Men. Ugh. “You keep accusing me,” I dabbed my eyes with a handkerchief. “I did no wrong. How many times do I have to justify myself despite going through numerous trials? Is it true that just because I am a Queen, I have to keep proving myself to everyone? Where is Lady Justice when sharp Alphas like yourselves are hiding their wives’ crimes and calling out foul to others?” I asked, using Leo’s tactics on him. He had first accused me and my mate as if I was definitely guilty. How was he going to cover for Quinn now?

What were her words when she abused me in the pack? ‘A woman was the goddess’ greatest gift to Earth. If a woman was gifted, she had to know when to use her intellect and when to wield her tears.’ Thanks to Quinn, I knew how well the latter worked.

Emotions could sway a stone-heart more than sharp words.

Leo immediately got down on his knees and cooed, “No, my Queen. We just got complaints regarding a free medical camp. You are the only philanthropic one who conducts free medical camps all over the continent,” Leo tried to soothe me. “We will get back to you if the report is right or not, and if these camps are indeed yours or someone else’s,” he caressed my head. I used to love his touch previously – innocent and loving but now I hated every vile action from this cunning and sly man.

“So you had no evidence for your accusation?” Council Member Celine asked, incredulously.

Oops, Leo had slipped. However, he bounced back from his defensive stance and got up to face everyone.

“Luna Quinn has the evidence but she is yet to come. It is a long way from the border barracks to the packhouse,” Leo replied.

“Is she really a Lady of Virtue? How can she be late for an eleven o’clock meeting? Wolves train as early as four in the morning and she is not able to come on time within her pack? Is she a lazy, trophy wolf?” Elder John wondered out loud.

“I apologize for the delay, everyone,” Quinn entered, cheeks pink with embarrassment. She surely caught the last part of Elder John’s words. She was a pro in eavesdropping in any case. “I got late because I was serving free food to our warriors at the border,” she showed-off her benevolence under the guise of an innocent apology.

“Alpha Leo, your warriors need free food?” I asked, shocked, fanning the flames that Quinn had ignited. She was going to burn in them. “You could have petitioned the imperial court. We would have helped you. We thought your pack boasted of poverty-free werewolves after the merger with my late father’s pack. What happened, Alpha Leo? Are your pack finances not able to hold onto rations as well?” I asked, concern and worry dripping in every word. “Is the Luna not able to control the dire situation that she has to personally serve the food at the borders for our noble warriors? I am concerned for you and the pack, Alpha Leo. You can count on me to help you any time,” I purred and despite the jab of taking over my father’s land, Leo’s eyes dilated and a soft growl from his chest erupted when I spoke the last few words. He still wanted me, despite having Quinn. What an eternal cheat!

Quinn’s face was a sight to watch. Eyes bulged out in cracking red anger, nostrils flared and chest heaved heavily. Her flames of anger were taking up all the oxygen, her chest pumping hard to gasp for more air.

“That is not what I meant, Maya,” she roared, her innocent look fading fast. “How dare you make fun of the Quinn family wealth and the pack’s finances,” she fumed.

“Oh, my apologies. I was just asking if you needed help. Please don’t be angry, Luna Quinn” I meekly replied before turning to Leo. “Alpha Leo, the Luna has been targeting me since I arrived in the pack. I am earnestly trying to help you but she keeps misunderstanding my intentions. I don’t know what have I done to receive such a treatment? Is it because the powers she took from me, came back to me?” I asked.

Revenge was best served cold but personally? I felt it was best served in Quinn’s style to Quinn.

Apparently, the lady who used the meek and innocent act as a weapon time and again, never thought about a counter-attack. Quinn flew into a rage which had no rationale or grace. A spew of unfiltered curse words flew out of the “Lady of Virtue’s” innocent mouth and the Council had to remove her from my person when she tried to “claw” my face.

Of course, they didn’t see her bleeding palms where my claws strategically struck and the white pencil heels that needled into her feet, hidden from the world. Without a wolf, she could not heal. Her affected hands and feet were doomed.

Quinn was obsessed with her smooth, white skin. One of the reasons why she made me do all the dirty work – literally, like tending to her feet after long days, kneeling on the cold floor while she complained about the slightest ache, or preparing her herbal baths while I stood by like a her personal servant instead of the pack doctor and flaunted my mate beside her.

“I will kill you, Maya!” she screamed as she was dragged out by the Council’s loyal warriors. “Just you watch how I claw out that smug face of yours,” she cried out.

“Oh my gosh, your Luna is crazy,” the council members and elders gasped at Leo.

“We should look into her medical camps as well. Who knows if she is really selling drugs and embezzling pack funds,” Council Member Oliver, once Leo and Quinn’s fan, roared in outrage. The council was impartial and ethical if slightly blind to reality. However, Quinn not only showed them her true colours but she tested their limits and that too on day two only.

Now, the public and pack members were left to see Alpha Leo and Luna Quinn’s drastic and hard fall.

“You did well, my Queen,” Sebastian whispered in my ear after everyone left us in the room, leaving behind Quinn’s “evidence against me” scattered and torn on the floor.

“Motivated by the best,” I whispered back and winked at him with my lip between my teeth before leaving behind a flushed … and a very distracted lycan king.
