Chapter 60
Rebecca's POV.
There were so many wounded warriors that it was hard to tell where to begin. I decided to have the Alpha's start a triage while Meri and I helped Jared first. They sent the majority of the wolves to the clinic, those with minor injuries. There were a handful that needed immediate attention though. There was a doctor from each pack that was helping get through this as easy as possible, but it was still going very slowly.
We got through the worst cases, even the rogues wounded. And everyone was finally moved to the clinic. Everyone except for Jared. Not matter what Meri and I did, nothing was helping him. He was getting worse by the second and I had no idea how to help him. I was going to lose my mate before we even got a chance to live. With help, I got Jared into my car and to the clinic. Grant was already there helping to set bones and stitch people up, but he stopped everything to take over Jared's care.
"I've got this Luna. If you could help get some of the others healed, I would appreciate it. There's just too many wolves here to take care of at once." Grant seemed to be overwhelmed.
"Okay, but if something, anything happens, please send a nurse for me." Even though I didn't want to leave his side, I knew Jared was in good hands.
I had found the area with the worst injuries and got to work. It wasn't long before I saw Mari helping out too. There were so many wolves to tend to, it took all night to heal most of them. There were still some that needed extra attention because of silver or wolfsbane, but we were getting there. I checked in with Grant every once in a while, but the only change to Jared's condition was that he is getting worse. Grant couldn't figure out why and I could tell he was starting to get worried as well.
As the dawn approached I had so much to worry about. I was running low on energy and high on stress. To make matters worse, Jack has finally shown up. He wasn't alone. Bryon and Aussie came in with him. I started to get worried when I didn't see my dad.
"Jack, where's my dad? He should be with you guys. So how come he's not here with you?" Jack put his head down and walked away.
Bryon came up to me and gave me a great big hug while Aussie just sat down close to the wall and cried.
"Dad got put in a room. He's here somewhere, I just don't know where. Darius got him with that dagger. I'm not going to lie; it doesn't look good sis. By the time we got him loaded up, he was already in a coma. What's worse, Darius got away. I'm sorry Becca, I couldn’t protect him. I haven't called Mom yet, I'm sure she's freaked out by now. I just don't know how to tell her." He sat down by Aussie and started bawling his eyes out too.
This couldn't be happening. I couldn't lose my dad and Jared too. There's got to be something I can do to help them, but what? Darius needs to pay for everything he's done. We just have to find him. I yelled for Jack but didn't see him anywhere. So, I got the other two Alpha's and told them what I needed.
"I want Darius, he was injured pretty badly, so he can't just speed out of here. I don't care what pack you get them from from, but I need you to gather some warriors together and go hunting. Maybe the rogue Beta will know something." One could only hope.
"Yes Luna. Meanwhile we'll get the rest of the warriors and guards together as well, they can start locking up the rogues until we can figure out what to do with them. I don't think it's safe to let them walk around freely. I don't trust that Ryder." Neither did I to be honest.
" Good idea. Just make sure to warn the troops about that dagger. I don't want to lose anyone else." I don't think I could handle it.
"Right away Luna. And don't worry, they'll be okay. I'm sure of it." They walked away to go find everyone they could to set out on the tasks at hand.
"As for you two, let's go find dad. We need to check on him and Jared. There must be something we can do. We just need to figure out why they aren't healing. Then maybe we can come up with a way to fix whatever Darius did to them. I just hope it's not too late." Something wasn't right about all of this.
It took a few minutes, but we finally found my father's room. There was a doctor in there from the Mountain Den pack tending to him. As I listened to words explaining that he had no idea what was going on, the room started spinning out of control. I started feeling as though I was going to get throw off a merry-go-round. My stomach started turning and I couldn't stand up anymore. Bryon managed to get me to a chair before I passed out. The world went black and silent, almost as though I wasn't even there.
In the darkness, I saw a glow from far away. It wasn't like Celeste's glow. This one was a dark green. It kept getting closer and closer. Soon I saw an image in the glow. It looked like a wolf, only not quite. Its fur looked like leaves and pine needles. This creature was at least ten feet on all fours. I've never seen a wolf so big. He was almost upon me when he stopped and just stared at me. I wanted to run and hide, but I couldn't see anything except the darkness and this wolf like creature.
I tried to back away, only my feet wouldn't move. It was as though I had been glued to this spot. I didn't try to struggle for fear I would upset the green beast watching me. I couldn't run, I couldn't hide, and I couldn't just shrink up into a little ball. I was getting very uncomfortable waiting for something to happen.
"I may be wild, but there's nothing to fear, I won't hurt you. I'm sure Isobel can sense I mean no harm." His voice was deep and strong.
" May I ask, who are you?" I could hear the cracking in my own voice.
"I am Light, I am dark, I am forest, stream, and mountain. I am courage, I am fear, I am love, I am hate. I am man, I am wolf, I am of the moon, yet I am Earth. I am the Lycan Alpha Lycaon, mate to Luna Selene, the first Moon Goddess and Lunar Mother." He lay down and with a huff of his breath, there in front of me was a fire burning bright.
" Where are we Father Earth? It is so dark here." Even with the fire, I couldn't see anything.
" We are in the dream realm child. This is the only place I can talk to the living. Make no mistake though, I am no dream." It looked like he winked at me.
" Why have you brought me here? Have I done something wrong? Have you brought me here to tell me I'm going to lose my mate and my father?" I started crying at the thought.
"I did not bring you here. Your children brought me here. Like you, the pups you carry are worried for your pack. It is the stress between you that is causing you to be sick. You need more rest, and to eat more. This will keep up your strength and keep you from passing out the way you have." What is he talking about?
"As for your mate and father, they have been poisoned. There is but one way to save their lives and there is not much time. The silver and wolfsbane attack his wolf, however, the knife was also imbued with nightshade." Well, that is something.
"Why does my healing not work?" If that's all it is, then I should have been able to save them.
"While this can't hurt the wolf on its own, mixing the three is deadly. While the wolf side is being killed off by the two, the nightshade kills off the human half while the wolf is weakened. This is why you cannot heal them, because they cannot draw enough strength from both sides to heal the whole body. You need the antidote for the nightshade to help them." I hope Grant has some.
" What about Darius? Do you know where he went? And how did he know about the nightshade? What about Stephanie? Do you know how we can help her?" I had so many questions.
"I cannot answer everything. I can tell you that Darius will not be found anytime soon. He was taught the ancient ways, such as poisons and hiding. He does not know them all, only a few. Jared knows one of those ways as well. He can do a partial transformation. This is all I can tell you for now. I must go now child. Please have Jared call on me when he is better. I have much to teach him." All at once, the beast was gone, and the darkness consumed me once again.
