STAIRS OR ELEVATORS?

STAIRS OR ELEVATORS?
Dante

Viviana thinks I am a creep. I… a creep? Amazing!

On our way to Japan, I expected her to confront me but she didn’t . Throughout the flight she doesn’t even talk to me even though we were seated side by side. I got to inhale a hint of her perfume. Whatever it is, that stuff is good- good for me, good for my soul. It has vanilla, jasmine and some other flowery thing I have no name for. Or perhaps it’s just her- Viviana.
When we arrive in Japan, we go to the hotel Bianchi has booked for us. Viviana being an employer had to stay in a different hotel but it was close to ours and that put me at ease. While my suite was a joined bedroom with Jacob. It had a door separating us. Only a single door, if he only knew how much he annoyed and irritated me. That nasally voice which he speaks in. The way his hand goes to pat his hair at every one minute twelve second interval. The way he chews his gum, the way his eyes wrinkle at the corners whenever they fall of Viviana. Damn irritating.
The man was also pathetic. He was scared someone might pounce on him while he isn’t in his finest or while he isn’t on his strongest guard. Bodyguards do go through a lot.
The next day is Jacob’s first meeting with some of the investors he flew to Japan for and so we rest early. Except I don’t.
I have a camera set up in Jacob’s room that I know where he is and goes on in his room just in case someone actually chooses to take his worthless life.
Then I swing by the hotel Viviana is staying. I am happy when I catch her in the lobby area. She is eating a bag of chips in a baggy outfit while, with the hat of her hoodie on and a magazine to feed her eyes. But I know she is the one immediately I see her.
I settle on a chair away from her and pick up a magazine myself. I spread it and use most of its length to cover and hide my face. I lower it once in a while to get a look at her. But one time she lifts her head and I quickly spread the magazine properly.
When I lower it back down after about eight dedicated and purposeful minutes, she’s gone. Gone!
My eyes dart around, glancing about to catch a hint of the pants she was wearing but I find none. When I’m about to turn, I hear a voice ask, “Looking for me?”
I smile inwardly. I taught her that. How to be careful and watchful of your surroundings? How to sense of a predator is close by? How whenever you’re in public you must be aware and attuned to your surroundings! It’s actually such a miracle that Alonso continues to hang in the shadows… unnoticed.
How did I think I was going to effectively be so close to her that she wouldn’t have noticed? When it comes to her my calculations are so off the charts it’s almost concerning. Almost, because I do not care.
To her my face looks stern because she tries to mirror it. “How did you know it was I?” I ask.
“Have you seen yourself? Your height and all those muscles? Well you know how to stand out in a crowd even though you’re seated and especially when you’re not holding a magazine right.” She points.
I look down.
“I was only pushing to know if indeed you are sitting in the lobby of this hotel because Jacob asked you to” she said. I lift my gaze from the magazine. She’s smart- of course she is. She said that to see if indeed I had been reading the magaazine and looking down confirmed I had not.
I immediately latch on her words, they were my perfect excuse. “Mr Bianchi wants to see you safe and rested for the night and he sent me here to ensure that. I‘ll take my leave once I’m certain you’re in your room. Please bear with this. And one more thing, I’ll appreciate it if you didn’t tell Mr Bianchi that you saw me. He didn’t want you to know and I honestly want to keep this job.”
I was expecting her to finally confront me but she simply nods, turns around and head over to the stairs. When she gets to the foot of the stairs, she turns around and shakes her head at me before walking away.
Then I glance at the elevator to see if it’s in use. It isn’t.
So why isn’t she using it? Now that I think of it, I haven’t seen her use the elevator like the rest of us. Does she just prefers to use the stairs or is there a reason she doesn’t use elevators?
