Chapter 72
Chapter 72
The result was that the Camorra team was surrounded by the ambushing Soren family members and the FBI who arrived on scene.
"So Alberto also..."
As I said this, I noticed Virio's expression change. "No, he escaped in the chaos."
This was something I hadn't expected.
So in the end, Alberto still got away.
Which meant only Killian died.
When Luca came to the hospital to visit me, he happened to hear Virio filling me in on what happened that day, so he came over to tell me about other things too.
"Even though Alberto escaped, Camorra took heavy losses, so I'm guessing we won this round."
Virio added with a bitter smile, "But Elvira got hurt and hospitalized too. In my view, we lost this battle."
Hearing Virio's words, Luca looked at me, then at Virio, and suddenly broke into a knowing smile. "Does this mean Virio's memory is completely back? Otherwise, why would he care about you so much?"
I felt a bit embarrassed. "I don't know, maybe it's just because I saved him again."
I thought Virio wouldn't respond, but after a moment, he suddenly said, "I did get my memory back, and I remember everything we went through."
Only then did I look up at him.
The moment our eyes met, all the hurt I'd suffered while he had amnesia came flooding back.
I opened my mouth, but tears came out first. "Do you know how upset I was when you lost your memory?"
"I know now. When I watched you fall in front of me, my only thought was that all my memories came back." As Virio said this, he held my hand again. Seeing us like this, Luca happily clapped his hands.
For a moment, I felt like Luca was actually just a kid who hadn't grown up yet, but when it came to planning strategies and dealing with Camorra, he showed real maturity.
"I won't disturb you lovebirds anymore."
Just as Luca left, I suddenly felt dizzy. I gripped Virio's hand tightly. "Virio..."
The next second, I lost consciousness completely.
From Virio's perspective:
This was the third day of Elvira's coma.
I didn't understand why she had woken up once, talked to me, learned about everything that happened, and then fell unconscious again.
When Luca heard about this, he rushed over to discuss it with the doctor, but the doctor concluded that he didn't know.
After all, she was shot in the shoulder, which might have affected some nerve, just like how I lost my memory after getting injured last time.
"A lot of things don't make sense, but it's okay, she'll wake up." That's what the doctor said.
Every day, I sat by Elvira's bedside, talking to her, trying to wake her up.
I admit that when I personally shot and killed Killian, I felt some regret.
Because he was Elvira's uncle after all. Even if everything needed to be settled, it shouldn't have been at that moment.
Maybe Elvira would have preferred to deal with him herself.
But now that Elvira had fallen unconscious again, I didn't regret any decision I made.
If I hadn't killed Killian then, who knows what might be happening now?
But with each day Elvira remained unconscious, I grew more worried and sad.
I worried that Elvira would never wake up.
I worried that Elvira was selfishly staying asleep to get back at me for everything during my amnesia.
I worried even more that we had no future.
I had already told the entire Soren family that Elvira was my fiancée.
That day, I went out to take a phone call, and when I returned to the hospital room door, I heard faint sounds coming from inside.
For a moment, I thought I'd heard wrong.
I walked forward a few steps, and this time it was even clearer. I heard Elvira's voice coming from the room.
"It hurts..."
The sudden excitement left me stunned for a moment, but when I came to my senses, I immediately pushed open the door.
"Elvira!"
The moment I pushed open the door, I saw that Elvira had indeed opened her eyes.
I rushed excitedly to the bedside. "Elvira, you're finally awake!"
Elvira looked at my excited expression, blinked, and asked, somewhat confused, "You, who are you?"
I was stunned.
Was this karma? A while ago, I lost my memory and forgot about my relationship with Elvira, and now, after getting injured, she lost her memory too?
I stood by the bed, not knowing how to react, licking my lips. "Elvira, you don't recognize me? I'm Virio..."
Maybe because this hit me so hard, I suddenly didn't know how to introduce myself.
But the more I spoke, the sadder I became, tears almost flowing from my eyes.
Then I heard a faint sound from Elvira.
I looked up at her and saw a mischievous smile on her lips. I suddenly understood. "Elvira, you didn't lose your memory, did you?"
"You figured it out?" Elvira joked with me in good spirits. "Last time when you woke up with amnesia, I thought you were joking with me too, but it turned out you weren't. I was sad for so long, so now I wanted to take this chance to get even."
I stared at her with mixed feelings, until Elvira thought I was angry and said carefully, "Are you upset? I'm sorry..."
She wanted to keep apologizing, but I hugged her tightly. "I didn't lose my memory on purpose last time. If I had known how painful this feeling was, I would have desperately told myself to remember you."
Elvira was caught off guard by my sincere confession, but soon she hugged me back too.
"Sorry, I just wanted to play a little joke on you. I didn't know you'd react like this." Elvira held me tight.
"When I woke up just now, I saw you weren't by my side, so I thought when you came back, I could play a little joke on you and lighten the mood a bit." She earnestly explained her thought process, saying she really just wanted to tease me.
But all I wanted to do was hold her tight. "It's okay, I know you've been upset about my amnesia."
"I just hope you can give me more mental warning next time."
I held her, then pulled back and kissed her forehead.
Then I kissed her lips. "I'm sorry I forgot you before."
"Okay, so now we're even? From now on, neither of us is allowed to mention this again."
We smiled at each other, and I held her tight again.
I thought to myself, I'll never be apart from her again.
